This being my first post, I will start by issuing my greetings to all.

I am a longtime FF6 veteran... I got it the Christmas of '94, and know more or less all there is to know about it. I thought I'd finally put the game to rest for a while, but in recent months have found myself at it yet again.

I'm trying to build another completionist's game - a long, slow, but still entertaining process. I realize there's something I have never figured out in all these years! So, experts and seasoned veterans alike: do any of you know why the Super Ball is so super? I can't help but feel there must be some hidden trick to using this item that I'm missing, because for 10,000 GP, I've usually found it to be a pretty crappy item. Toss ball, watch brief visuals, revel in the laughably low damage incurred.

If Google knows what's up, it isn't talking. A few oddballs speak of the ball increasing your critical hit rate, but Terii's FAQ says no such thing. When I try it, this doesn't seem to happen. So did I miss something here?

welcome aboard.

i figured the super ball was kind of an item for first-time players who maybe werent strong enough to kill enemies easily enough when they first got to the WoR, so they can just use the marginally powerful super ball to get them through battles. doesnt really help that they cost 10000 beans a pop, but you probably dont wanna be buying a whole lot anyway. im almost positive theres nothing special to them, just an overpriced crappy item. keep playing.

It's a useless item for players but for some reason it seems to always be very powerful when used by enemies. Here's Master ZED's documentation on the attack:

Quote (Master ZED's FF3us Attack Guide v1.2)
Super Ball
Magical attack
Hits random enemy target(s) multiple times
Always does multiples of 256 as damage
Unblockable
Ignores defense, retargets if target is dead.
Special Effect:
4A = makes Super Ball attack out of spell (Super Ball)

How does the Super Ball select the damage multiplier for 256? What is the random range, if any, and if not, how does it work?

Super Balls randomly do alot of damage in my experience, sometimes when you use them, it will only throw a few, but sometimes, it throws lots, which causes big damage. They helped me get through the Fanatic's Tower the first time.
