I think the "cursed shield counter" just stops counting, and will restart counting if you re-equip it.

i'm pretty sure it doesn't restart from zero battles... but better safe than sorry (in my opinion) if i'm trying to uncurse it i don't unequipt it... so i'm not particularly sure...

I think it has to be "in a row". Best not unequip it, just get it over with.

I have a couple of quick questions about the Cursed Shield. I know the basics about how you must fight 255 battles with it, but do they battles have to occur consecutively after you've equipped it on someone, or can they be spread out over the course of the game with the shield equipped on several different people? (does it remember battles it's been fought with, or do they have to be done in a row?) Also, it says that the shield teaches you Ultima...how does it do that? Do you learn it instantly, or do you learn it slowly like when you are learning from an Esper? Just curious...

I think it is 255, that is what mine said in the guide i got off www.gamefaqs.com. Maybe he means the FFIII edition, but that is what I use, but refer to the game as FFVI.

It's 256. All together now: "255 battles to max the counter, plus one to overflow it."

1) No, the battles don't need to be consecutive, but it must be a battle you win. Leap/Return battles on the Veldt don't count.
2) The shield can be changed from owner to owner without resetting your stats on it. 3) The Cursed Shield doesn't teach anything, but when it becomes the Paladin Shield, it gives the same rate of learning Ultima as the Ragnarok esper. -------------------- My soul is bound to the Mistress of the Afterlife, and my fealty is to her always. Yes aside from being the best sheild it teaches you just like Ragnarok would.

One other question...is there anyway to counteract the counter that ticks down when a battle starts, and you are using the shield? I've got a Ribbon on, but I wasn't sure if there was any way to avoid the demise caused by the counter. I haven't thought to try a Safety Bit yet, but would that work?
BTW...sorry for the duplicate type topic. Didn't see the original one there...boy, is my face red! ![]() -------------------- You know me, you just wish you didn't... "Uwee hee hee! Don't tease the octopus, kids!" -Ultros- "Don't let the smooth taste fool you..." |

Yes the Safety Bit works as does the Memento Ring. An interesting concept I had is to equip the Relic Ring with the Cursed Shield. Once the counter reaches zero, wouldn't your character's health be fully replenished? I haven't tested this yet. Try it!

It would. Condemned status' doom spell heals the undead.
