Okay...I'll bite...what's the use of the Relic Ring? It makes your character "undead", which in my book, isn't a good thing. I noticed in the Walkthroughs on this site that it says that the purpose of it is outlined in the "Strategies" section, but I can find no such section on the CoN site. Anyone care to explain this to me? I hate to miss out on something cool because of a lack of understanding of a relic. I know there was an item with a similar effect on FFT that I never used either...

Although healing spells (I'm not sure about items) damage a Relic Ring bearer, and Phoenix Down/Life/Life 2 are instant "death", the Doom spell completely heals the bearer. Therefore, as long as you have enough MP, you can cast Doom on yourself to heal yourself completely. Unfortunately, having a Relic Ring bearer in your party means that you can't use Cure magic on the entire party (unless you do X-Magic and do Cure [insert number] on the party and Doom on yourself together).

Essentially, the Relic Ring makes you undead, in exactly the same way as monsters (and Gau/Gogo Raging) in all but one that I can think of; Life 3 has essentially no effect on an undead character (Life is still cast at death, but it won't do anything), while it ensures that an undead monster will die against Doom/enemy Roulette/Condemned status/Striker, etc., which normally would only restore the monster's HP completely. The reason is because an enemy will go through a death and revival process while characters are simply healed. The death/revival process triggers Life 3 status to cast a Life spell that kills the undead monster the instant it is revived. It's my favorite bug by far, funny as hell to watch an enemy die twice like that.
![]() I'll clarify the Roulette note, because someone's bound to notice the mention; Condemned status Doom and enemy Roulette have nearly the exact same statistics (two stats in enemy Roulette are "implied", MP cost and Learn if cast, by the fact the original spell stats are called before the pointer is launched, the new stats are loaded when the spell actually takes effect), while Roulette as cast through command menus, Rage status, etc. is a different spell that doesn't revive the undead and isn't exactly uncontrollable (the spinning cursor bit only works through menus, automatic targeting of any kind will ignore it). The current version of the Attack guide at my site should have the stats on enemy Roulette and Condemned's Doom if you want to know more. -------------------- |

The HUGE advantage to being undead is you can cast DOOM on the character to fully heal them.

What I don't get is that my undead character has 0 HP, and he's still moving about and fighting like he isn't injured at all. What does it take for enemies to actually "kill" him, and how can I tell how much "health" he has?

Thats the plus do being "undead" although I too am supprised at that. A spell or maby and Esper should kill him though so be careful.

Quote (Majik Monkee @ 15th March 2004 15:04) What I don't get is that my undead character has 0 HP, and he's still moving about and fighting like he isn't injured at all. What does it take for enemies to actually "kill" him, and how can I tell how much "health" he has? They can't be killed. However, they also can't be controlled, and if the rest of your party dies, it's game over. So as long as you're confident there isn't a series of attacks that could finish your party off, you're not in that much danger. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |
