Hello, this is my first post here but I'll keep it brief. Where do you get the relics economizer and merit award? And also, is it possible to get more than one gem box and offering (aside from bugs/glitches)? Thanks.

You can get more than one Gem Box and Offering: through the Colosseum. You can also get Economizers and Merit Awards through the Colosseum (I got my Merit Award through the Colosseum).
However, if you don't want to get it that way, I remember reading that Brachosaurs drop Economizers rarely, and another enemy (Aquila?) does too (or is that one a steal?). I can't remember what enemy gives you Gem Box, Offering, and Merit Award. Welcome to the Caves of Narshe, by the way. You might be able to find information regarding your questions in our database of information on FFVI. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Bet an Elixir to get a Rename Card. Bet a Rename Card to get the Merit Award. You can get an Economizer in the WoB by delivering letters for the wounded soldier in Mobliz.

to start off to my knowledge there is only one gem box... but if you don't know where it is. it is at the top of the fanatics tower
i don't remember any glitches that give you any either and for some reason i remember having 2 offerings... i'm looking into locations... according to RPGclassics there is one in the Odin's Castle/cave under Figaro (not figaro cave the "bizarre strata in the WoR") although i do remember getting one on the phantom train (i seem to recall it being in a treasure chest behind the ghosts in the diner car... or was it an earring??? srry i don't remember) you can win the economizer from the Brachosaur you can also steal it from the Aquila and at the colosseum if you wager the gem box you can also get it if you fight SrBehemoth 1 (in the WoR this is the first of the monsters that attacks you when you go to the veldt cave to recover shadow/relm) and as for the merit award i can't remember or find anyplace that knows where it is... this is all the info i could find i hope it helped This post has been edited by Zechs on 8th April 2004 01:25 -------------------- ~ A Hero Is Someone Who Stands When Their Legs Are Gone~ |

i90east: the soldier gives you a Tintinabar, not an Economizer.

i90, the Rename Card gives the Marvel Shoes. I believe the Merit Award can be gotten through a sequence beginning with the Imp Halberd. And the Tintinabar is what you get for delivering letters in the WoB. An Economizer in WoB would be way too good.
Zechs, it is Earrings you get on the Train. As far as I know, there is only 1 Offering and 1 Gem Box in the game. Okay, technically, there's 2 Offerings, but one of them is equipped by General Leo, so only 1 Offering your team can use in the game. -------------------- --sbq92 <>< |

I thought the tintinabar was obtained through the vector scene where emperor gesthal "lost his will to fight" and you had to go around talkin to all the soldiers and such...answer a few questions at a nice buffet...and he gave it to you if you answered the Q's the right way and talked to nearly all the soldiers (which is hard...even with sprint shoes)

I think what Detah meant by infinite was that you can get as many as you want throughout the game. The soldier letters event can only be done one time through. Now, if you actually don't know how to do the letters scenario, in Mobliz, you talk to the soldier and read his letter for him. You then go to the house where a scholar is just standing there next to a clock. Then, go to sleep. Relic shop is recommended because it's free. Now, you can only get so far until you get Gau on your team. But after you have him, you can complete it. So, repeat the letter reading and scholar talking-to steps until you've completed the cycle. The soldier is the one that gives you the Tintinabar. -------------------- --sbq92 <>< |

You may only complete the 'letters for dying soldier' miniquest one time. For mailing 3 letters for him, you will receive 1 Tintinbar. By using the other methods of acquiring Tintinbar, ie Metamorphing a Stray Cat, you could theoretically acquire an infinite number of them.

Infinite Exp. Eggs would be nice, but not at the cost of a Paladin Shield.

Exp Egg (infinite) Found in Daryl's Tomb, Metamorph a Harpy/Harpiai/Aquila, Bet Tintinabar in Colosseum
I do not see how foregoing the Paladin Shield has anything to do with acquiring infinite Exp Eggs. I also don't know why anyone would need more than 4 of these. Moreover, I don't know why anyone would want to rush through levels anyway. The optimal way to increase levels is by pairing Esper level up bonuses with the right person at the right time. Equipping Exp Eggs makes that job alot harder. See the Best Relics thread for a long list of better Relics to equip instead of wasting a spot on quicker xp. Well, if you can get infinite Tintinabars without costing a Paladin shield, as Detah outlined above, then you can take those to the colliseum and make them Exp. Eggs.

I meant Illumina, not Paladin Shield. But I agree, more than four seems unnecessary and it seems that by getting all 3 possible tintinabars and wagering them exactly four is what you would end up with. I do however think it is easier to time esper bonuses with exp. eggs available for use.
Edit Yes, I am aware you can accomplish a metamorph without having the Ragnarock Magicite, but I don't really like considering that time-consuming method This post has been edited by The Ancient on 8th April 2004 18:06 -------------------- "That Light has bestowed upon me the greatest black magic!" |

That's awesome and saves a bunch of time. Thanks! I'll remember that next time I go through the game (which may be a while... I'm just about finished my current run...) And, how is having an unlimited number of Exp. Eggs useful at all? The only thing I can think of is that it would mean you can have an unlimited number of Air Anchors, but that, too, is useless...even more useless, actually. -------------------- --sbq92 <>< |

Quote (The Gambler @ 8th April 2004 21:00) HOW does having an unlimited supply of Exp. Eggs cost you illumina? I think he meant that you need the Ragnarok Sword to get the Illumina. If you choose the Ragnarok Sword, instead of the Esper, you will not be able to Metamorph as easily (but you can still use Magicite Items and Magicite Slots). But that is all moot, because you can always utilize the Megalixir -> Tintinbar -> Exp Egg Colosseum trades to get infinite Exp Eggs without the Metamorph special at all. |

Quote (Detah @ 9th April 2004 08:14) ...you can always utilize the Megalixir -> Tintinbar -> Exp Egg Colosseum trades to get infinite Exp Eggs without the Metamorph special at all. Very true, but Sigfreid is a tough one... I have a file with all my characters maxed out with the best equipment, and I still have trouble against him in the Colosseum. His move HyperDrive does well over 7000 damage to even the most powerful of characters. It must be unblockable/defense piercing. I personally don't feel a Megalixir is worth a Tintinabar, but I suppose it is worth the Exp. Egg... But then, by the time your characters are strong enough to potentially deal with Sigfreid, you probably don't really need an Exp. Egg. -------------------- --sbq92 <>< |
