Equipment: Optimum or Not?

Do you always (or almost always) equip what the game recommends with the optimum command?
Yes, I pretty much always use optimum [ 15 ]  [65.22%]
No, I pay more attention to stat boosts among other things [ 8 ]  [34.78%]

I've always just used optimum. I like knowing that my armor offers the best raw defense and my weapons have the highest raw offensive power. There are times when a helmet with a little less defense than another helmet will offer the HP or MP boost (for example) but eh, I like my max HP and MP to be natural.

Yes, Optimum rocks. I feel lost when I play the older FF games, which don't have an Optimum. Unfortunatly, it doesn't put Atma Weapon in if you select Optimum, so I have to equip it myself. Maybe it does this to others, too, but I don't remember.

EDIT: Oh hey, 500 posts for me. biggrin.gif

Optima oft times leaves me w/o kappa armor and or Atma weapon. So i check prior to me using it.

I always use optimum unless i'm in an area with a specific element that most monsters in that area use. For example: If I'm in the fire cavern, I don't want the flame sword equiped, I'd want the ice sword.

I almost always use Optimum. I will usually check stats after using it, as well as the equipment it actually gives me, but I find the Optimum command in this game is very good compared to some of the other games (it's annoying in FF9; it gives you all sorts of strange equipment when you'd rather have something better equipped).

Towards the end of the game I usually optimize, then change one or two pieces for stat boosts, like giving Locke two Wing Edges and a Red Cap for speed (or something like that).

I prefer optimum becuse it just makes selecting wepons so much easyer. Of course there are times when I have to do it manualy like when it selects a wepon with a mgpwr bonus over one with lightl higher attck and with speial weons like atma and drainer

I've never used Optimum, oddly enough, even though I usually pick the strongest weapons and armor anyways. I guess I'm just used to doing it manually, as in other games like SMRPG, CT, and FFIV.

This happens to be almost completely opposite to what I do in FFV. There, partially because the game does optimum for you whenever you change class, I've grown to hitting optimum in those few times I've needed to change much of one character's armor. Nevertheless, just as in FFVI, I don't use "Optimum" when I just change one piece of equipment, mainly because I want to avoid having to remove the Bone Mail and Cursed Ring.

When I first played the game I just did everything manually, having been raised on FFIV and I, but now I use it most of the time, with exceptions(The Cursed Shield quest obviously among them).

I generally use optimum because it's easier, I do take the time to equip special items, though.

I always use optimum until I get the Atma Weapon because like Figaro said it doesn't put that as a person's top weapon. Besides I like to make my own decisions, never trust a computer...THEY are watching us through computers. unsure.gif

I very rarely use Optimum in FFVI. I tend to use it mostly in the very begining of the game when you don't have a lot of different equipment to choose from. After you start getting a wider variety of weapons, armor, and characters I like having more control over who's using what. I'll still use optimum just to get something equipped, but I always go through and customize each character.

I used to use Optimum, but I've found that it leaves off things like Atma weapon and weapons with better stats (i.e. there is a weapon with more batt. power at the time you get the thief knife, but the tk is clearly a better weapon due to its other boosts). I still use optimum when equiping people for the 12 man assult on Kefka (after my leaders have been personally equiped) to save time.
