Indeed. And I do feel that VI's lack of a spoon was it's greatest failing. The throw command just didn't feel the same without it.

I dunno i think Shadow was well done...every ninja uses Shurikens and the dog was a nice touch. His ninja-ness showed in his attitude and his flashbacks.

Well, admittedly, despite the coolness of the Spoon in FFIV, spoons aren't normally dart weapons; nor are they standard attack weapons for ninjas, assassins, or any other character classes (except possibly "chef"). But at least you can appreciate the fact that Shadow wasn't [very_lame_pun]"spoony"[/very_lame_pun].

The dog Interceptor seems to imply more assassin than ninja, but again, dogs are not standard for either class.

I don't remember seeing any Chef class characters in any of the FF games I've played...there was one in Chrono Cross, but that hardly qualifies...I've totally missed out on the spoon, though. Tough luck. tongue.gif

If you're looking for throwing weapons that do 9999, you could always turn to the Imp Halberd and the Heal Rod. When equipped, they're not much more than worthless gimmick items (the Imp Halberd has decent attack only if you're in Imp status, and the Heal Rod heals instead of attacks, so you can use it on your allies), but when thrown they hit for an automatic damage limit every time, without fail. And unlike the Spoon, you can get much more than just one of either.

Quinna Quan from FF 9 was pretty close to a Chef.

Hmmm...I didn't play 9, so I guess I can't really speak from a fully educated perspective...thanks for clearing that up for me, though.

Hmmm...Imp Halberd and Heal Rod sound like pretty powerful throwing weapons...I have a few of those stored up from fighting random battles...I'll have to make use of them... biggrin.gif

I always thought of Shadow's classification of "Assassin" as a bit of a sarcastic throw-back to his one dream sequence where

Possible spoilers: highlight to view
Baram asks Clyde to kill him and Clyde can't.....

And another thing, altho it seems obvious to me that Shadow HAS the skills of an assassin, is there any point in the game that actually references him killing anyone? I can't think of any, other than all of the random monsters he kills. It just seems to me like there's no actual background of Shadow being an assassin.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm forgetting something.

Well, one of the guys in the cafe where Shadow shows up says that he'd slit his mother's throat for a nickel...so I'm assuming he either has a history of being an assassain, or just a reputation built about him. Of course, if he was a good assassain, nobody would know what (or who) he'd done, so maybe they were just judging him based on his looks.

Actually, when I saw that line I thought "guiltless mercenary", not "assassin".

I am sure that if you told Shadow he was using the wrong equiptment, he would rip out your spleen and use it as a nice Winter scarf...
