clay: $X
glaze: $Y kiln heating: $Z clay sculpture/statue of Bahamut on North Mountain (of FFV fame): priceless clay sculpture/statue of Bahamut on North Mountain, with flower in the mouth: MORE priceless Sorry I don't know the costs of clay, glaze, and kiln heating, but I thought that this would be a nice way of saying it. Darn, I'd want that any day. Custom-made sculpture of a dragon--a very famous one--in a dramatic scene from one of the best FFs? Oh yeah. Edit: The only thing I would change are that the ears aren't that large and are grey like the rest of his body. Edit2: (in response to Rujuken and DP telling me that those things are horns) The horns are also grey, like the rest of its body. In this case they would be black. Uh, I'm pretty sure those are horns Glenn.
Yeah, dragons are always hard work. They are complicated and have a lot of detail to attend to. Good job. How big is this thing? It looks almost 2 ft tall. I got a kick out of the pic with the flower. -------------------- -- You're Gonna Carry That Weight -- |

How big is this thing? It looks almost 2 ft tall. I got a kick out of the pic with the flower. Yes, they are horns. Yes, Dragons are hard. The only reason I could make the head and neck so perfet, yet squared, was because the clay was too dry to work with effectively, and we didn't have anything better; so I ended up just making it like that. It's 7 and a half inches at the higher horn. Yeah. The flower was fun. Now, only 7 hours after I picked it, the flower is already limp. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

7.5 inches? It looks a lot bigger. I guess my judgement of scale is really off.

It's great. I like that you're bringing a new art form here. Hopefully it'll make some closet sculpters post more, too.

I like him :-) I like how his skin turned out sort of mottled, too (is that how you spell it?) Like he's older then age itself.
He looks a little sad, though. Maybe being the King of the Dragons is lonely. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

Quote (Rujuken @ 20th February 2004 21:09) 7.5 inches? It looks a lot bigger. I guess my judgement of scale is really off. Nah, I think it's my camera. The initial pic was something like 1600x1200 pixels, and it makes the object (in all pics taken with it so far) look larger than it really is. Quote (Neal @ 20th February 2004 21:42) It's great. I like that you're bringing a new art form here. Hopefully it'll make some closet sculpters post more, too. Heh. I could either be the most unique FanArt poster here, or I could be the initiator of a new wave of FanArt. Either's good Quote (Elena99 @ 20th February 2004 21:45) I like him :-) I like how his skin turned out sort of mottled, too (is that how you spell it?) Like he's older then age itself. I can actually explain that. There are two types of brushes we use. One is the dark brown horse hair we use for glazing, and the other is a light brown, coarser bristles we use on the wet clay. The latter is used mainly for smoothing the clay out, or smoothing one piece of clay into another, I think (I've never used it, and am not sure if I have needed it). Anyways, sometimes people use the dark bristles for the clay, and it is very difficult to wash the clay out (and just as difficult to figure out if there's any in it or not). When you use a brush for glazing that has clay in it, it makes the glaze turn out kind of "cloudy" or mottled, as you described. I like that perspective on it showing age. The best I came up with was that they resembled scales (easier to tell in person). Quote (Elena99 @ 20th February 2004 21:45) He looks a little sad, though. Maybe being the King of the Dragons is lonely. Maybe he's sad because his most recent attempt at wooing a prospective "Queen of Dragons" with a flower failed? -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Wow DP, you're getting to be really good with clay. I can't find a single thing wrong with this. Keep up the good work.

That rules!
but the size makes me ponder... lesse... 7.5 inches... thats nearly Inquisitor Scale anyway, its still kinda spooky, IMO... But still really a cool peice of pottery, and a unique idea, i think...
