Here's a question:
A character hits with a weapon (say the Illumina) and gets the Pearl magic effect. How is the dmg for the pearl calculated? Is it as if the character themself just cast the spell? (i.e. based on their mag. pwr.?) As for the Hero Ring, it gives an ambigous 'fight/magic pwr boost.' How does this boost stack up to say, the physical boost from an Atlas Armlet or the magic boost from an earring. If anyone knows, I'd be greatful. ![]() |

The Hero Ring is basically an Atlas Armlet and Earrings put together. Earrings stack, as does the magic effect of the Hero Ring. Fight damage does not stack. Terii Senshi's Algorithms FAQ V 2.1 shows this effect with this formula:
Atlas Armlet / Earring
Quote (Highroller) How is the dmg for the pearl calculated? Is it as if the character themself just cast the spell? (i.e. based on their mag. pwr.?) Yes, the damage is calculated as if the user casted the spell normally, but there are exceptions: Quote (Terii Senshi's Algorithms FAQ V 2.1) 1. The spell does not ignore your row, so if you're in the back row it will do half damage. If the weapon that cast the spell ignores row, then the spell cast will still do full damage if you're in the back row. 2. The damage multiplier added by Jump (see section 6.9) affects the spell as well, so if you jump and it casts a spell then the spell does extra damage. 3. If the weapon does automatic criticals, then the spell automatically does a critical as well (even though spells normally can't do criticals). However, if the weapon does a critical because of the standard 1 in 32 chance, then the spell does not do a critical. If a spell is cast by a weapon after the weapon is used to attack (such as Illumina casts Pearl after a standard attack), and the spell cast is reflectable, will that casting of the spell be reflected?
(I know that in FFV, it does reflect. Equip the Flame whip, and occasionally it'll cast Fire3 after the attack. But if you use it on an enemy that has Wall, you'll hit the enemy with a physical attack, then hit yourself with Fire3.) -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. For weapons that randomly casts a spell when they hit the enemy, the chance that the spell will be cast is 1 in 4. This spell can't be absorbed by Runic or reflected by the wall status, and costs 0 MP to cast. |
