Well, this is basically just a theory about Gogo's origins which was inspired by some talk of it in these forums here. It's an interesting perspective I think, and personally it's the most believeable theory I've come across. This is only the first half of the story (I have a tendency to feel the need to upload things before they are finished), and the second half will come soon (hopefully tonight, but atleast by the end of the week). I've only played all the way through FF6 once (i've started it many times but never got around to finishing it), so my ideas of the characters might not be as you all have them in your head. But just bear with me. As for the story, enjoy!

Brotherly Love

A Gogo Story/Theory

by SpacemanSpiff

Shrouded in odd clothing

...is this a man...?

...a woman...?

...or

should we ask...?

*

"Oh, they're both so adorable," she cried as she held her two sleeping babies in her cradled arms. The little angels slept so sound in her loving care, and one seemed reluctant to wake as he rubbed his eyes with some irritance before slowly opening them wide to his mother's kind face. The baby stared wondrously at this woman, and he seemed to copy her expression as she smiled so joyfully, a cute giggle escaping both of them in unison. "Look he's smiling. Honey, come look."

"Yes, dear. He's smiling. Babies do that." the woman's husband said sarcastically, though in a caring way as he walked over and looked upon the two marvels, one still deep in slumber while the other mirrored his mother's blissful emotions. "Although he seems much happier than his brother to be waking up."

The sleeping baby began to take a distasteful face as he stirred, and before either parent could react he began to wail. It was a fierce cry for a peaceful return to his dreams, dreams that he could not find in his mother's care anymore. His cries ran with his tears down his face, and his brother was handed over to his father while mother held the weeping child close to her bosom.

"There there now, little one. No need to cry. Mommy's here." she tried to console the weeping child, rocking him gently in her arms. The baby in father's hands watched intently, his dark brown eyes following his brother as the tears finally ran dry and he was lulled back into a dream. "That's better. Maybe we should take him to bed."

"That's probably a good idea," the father agreed, still holding on to the starry eyed baby that seemed so deeply interested in every movement his mother made. "As for this little one, I don't know if he'll ever get back to sleep. His eyes are wide open."

"Well we'll take him back to bed when he's ready. As for this one, I don't think he'll have any trouble sleeping through the night," mother said softly as she nuzzled her nose with the sleeping baby she cradled softly. His little nose twitched slightly at her touch, but he continued to sleep endlessly. "They've both had an exhausting day."

"C'mon, let's hit the sack kiddo." father said as he bounced the lively baby in his arms a bit, to maybe take his eyes away from whatever interested him so much. But the baby continued to stare at his mother, wide eyed and wondrous. "Well, I guess we can let you stay up a bit longer."

Mother and father made their way to a back room, decorated in lively shades of yellow, green, and red; an easter egg of comfortable color. Two small beds, a slight crater in the center as though two coffins without lids, were set in the middle of the room. Above them hung a string carousel with colorful dolls and toys dangling playfully. One of those dolls stood out amongst the others...a clown. Mother laid the sleeping baby gently upon the tiny feather mattress, and it seemed to curl up around him, hugging him with warm feelings. The two parents stood over him; the still lively baby awake in father's arms watching as well as the little angel was gleefully lost in his dreams.

"He's beautiful," mother said, nearly in a whisper, as if she might wake him with anything louder than the sound of her breath. She was starting to get teary eyed just from looking at him. "That's our baby."

"So's this little guy," father returned quietly, "They're our little twins."

"It was so unexpected. I never thought we'd be blessed with two little angels," mother was nearly to the point of weeping over her words. With his free hand, the father wrapped a loving arm around his wife, the other baby still awake although now staring intently at his brother in slumber. "We don't even know what to name them. We only had one name picked out."

"Well we can at least give one of them that name," father suggested, bouncing the little baby in his strong arm, "I say we give this little guy his name first, since he's actually awake to hear it."

"Okay." mother agreed with a smile as she turned to look at her baby boy, still intent with his brother's slumber. The mother took her gentle fingers and ran them smoothly across her baby's cheek, guiding his eyes to hers as she spoke, "How do you like the name...Gogo...?"

They waited for a moment, as the child examined his mother's face, the father wondering if maybe the child was deaf due to the lack of any reaction. But after only a moment, the baby smiled excitedly, copying his mother's expression, giggling with her in unison.

"I think he likes it." father responded.

"I think so, too."

'Mother...

Gogo's weary eyes crept open as his dreams faded into the darkness, much like that of the cave he called home. Save for the small pillar of light that fell through the aperture above, the earthen chamber was endlessly dark. It was comforting to him as he stood so statuesque there under that single ray of light, and he welcomed the dark each time he opened his eyes. He no longer had a family. No one to go home to, to love and cherish, or simply to have.

I never got to say goodbye...

The solemn gloom of his surroundings didn't help ease his thoughts much, but he had become so used to it over the years since he had cast himself into this dark lair.

And brother, why did you have to leave? His memories of his long lost brother would always haunt his dreams, and it was the only thing he truly despised waking up to realize. His brother was gone. I never wanted--

His mind froze for a moment as he heard something very unusual, something he had not heard in a very long time...voices. Gogo left his ears to his complete attention as he listened intently for perhaps another taste of the sound. It was silent for a moment, and he wondered if he wasn't simply going insane in this dank dungeon. But alas, his ears were satisfied with the sounds of distant voices and clattering feet. Slowly but surely these sounds were drawing closer, and Gogo almost thought he could see a faint light peeking in through the shadowed doorway. He was actually starting to get excited, for he had not had human contact in years.

Someone has actually passed through my cave!

This was very interesting, indeed, as he knew those who were approaching were no ordinary people. He had spent most of his years turning his lair into a deathtrap, a deadfall for unwanted visitors to his island. He had trained his "pets" to take them in from the surface, and then letting the cave eat them alive. It wasn't the nicest thing he could do, but this island was sacred to him, and he would let no trespasser take advantage of it. He had promised his brother he would look after it, and in return his brother had promised keep it safe from the hands of the Empire. This was their home, after all, and they were the only ones left to take care of it.

Could it be?' Gogo's thoughts began to race for a moment, and his excitement doubled at the idea, Could he be coming to find me? Will I see my brother again?

His eyes sparkled under the soft light freefalling from the ceiling, and he wore a slight smile beneath the mass of colorful cloaks wrapped around his head. He could clearly see the light of torches piercing through the darkness now, and he eagerly awaited the faces behind it. He didn't want to get his hopes up, but he couldn't help to think that he would finally see his brother again.

After all these years...

"It's time for bed, little Gogo" mother smiled as she hoisted the giggling child up in her arms, wrapping him in warm skin. His chubby little arms wreathed around his mother's neck as she made her way back into autumn colored room, his brother not far behind his father's arms. Gogo was nearly asleep before mother even reached the small bed, and he was more than willing to accept the fluffy arms of its cushion. His eyes fell softly closed, as though a draft gently blowing the shudders of a window.

"Well, that's a first," father remarked at the haste with which Gogo had found his slumber. "Usually this little guy is knocked out way before his brother."

Father smiled at the infant still somewhat awake to the world, though looking as though he could pass out at any moment. Mother made her way over, after tucking in the sleeping Gogo in his bed, and she laid a loving hand over the infant's head, his arms still hung around father's neck.

"We have a surprise for you little one," mother said with a smile as she lifted the baby from his father's arms, laying him delicately upon the scarlet feather pillow. The baby seemed to perk up at the words, as if he understood just what she meant by this surprise. Mother and father stood together in each others arms as a pair of amorous smiles over their young child. The baby seemed to be fighting whatever fatigue was knocking on his door, trying to stay awake for this surprise they had for him.

"We should hurry and tell him before he falls asleep," father suggested as he watched the infant's weary eyes trying desperately to stay open. "We wouldn't want to miss our chance."

"Well then, little one, we finally have a name for you," mother announced with a soft, gleeful voice, careful not to rouse the other little one fast asleep. Father watched the baby's eyes widen a bit, becoming more attentive and somewhat excited, as though it was Christmas morning. "We hope you like it."

"He better like it," father mumbled to his wife under his breath, "It took us a week to finally decide on it."

"Oh hush, honey," mother quieted her husband with a soft elbow in the side. The baby was still somewhat excited to have his parents watching over him so caring. Mother leaned in a bit closer, her eyes washing adoration over him, and she spoke as if she were an angel. "Your name, for now and forever shall be..."

...Kefka...

The name rang through his ears a thousand times before he finally came to notice the silhouettes pressing through the dark entrance. Two torches amongst four travelers slowly, cautiously entering the small room, each taking heed of the colorfully cloaked figure standing atop the stone carved staircase. Everyone stood silent for a moment, the sound of crackling flames echoing off the cavern walls.

It's not him.

Gogo's heart sank a bit as he realized that Kefka was not one of these four unknown visitors, though he wondered if they perhaps knew him. He figured if they ever got the nerve to approach him then he would ask them. As luck would have it, they gathered close to each other, huddled with their torches and began to ascend the crude steps. Drawing closer with each stair, the group began to stir a bit, exchanging whispers amongst each other. The man in front was a tall blonde-haired man, ponytail dangling helplessly over his shoulder, wearing the armor of royalty. He was whispering something to the girl behind him, something about funny clothes, to which she replied with something around the nature of "hush". One thing Gogo noticed about her was the stunning hair, flowing in waves of a finer green than the emerald ocean. Behind her, crawling up the stairs on all fours was another green-haired being, though a bit dirty. He seemed more cautious than the others, taking short pauses to get a whiff of some looming dangerous air. The last man in the group would've been invisible had it not been for the torch he was carrying. All Gogo could see were a pair of golden eyes behind a walking shadow. As they all finally reached the top of the stair, they took a brief look at each other before sharing a unanimous nod.

"Hello there, O colorful one." the blonde-haired man stepped forward with his words. Gogo fixed his eyes upon him, though refrained from moving an inch. "Might you be able to show us the way out of here?"

"Edgar, please!" the girl grabbed the man's arm as though to perhaps give him a good lashing. "Do you have to be so direct?"

"What?" He came back playfully, though in all seriousness. "Isn't that what we've been looking for this whole time?"

"Yes, but we should introduce ourselves first. He might need our help." the girl came back, though her argument didn't seem to fare well.

"We're the ones that need help here." the man grumbled a bit as he stepped back to allow the girl to speak for the group. She came forward under the light of the blonde man's torch, glowing in a green aura from the shine of her hair, and most surprisingly to Gogo...she wore a smile.

She reminds me of mother

"We're sorry to disturb you, but we're a bit lost. My name is Terra," she spoke warmly, and Gogo actually found himself a bit entranced by the sight of her. "That's Edgar..."

"Edgar Figaro," he followed after her words, giving a short bow, "Sorry if I seemed rude, but this cave gives me the creeps."

"Me Gau!" the wild child blurted out, obviously finding no alarming scents as he became more personable. So personable in fact that he crawled over to the man in robes to get a closer sniff...just to make sure. The child drew back after a quick moment, falling back behind Terra. "You smell strange! Smell familiar!"

This confused everyone, Gogo included, but they tried to pay no mind. Gau simply hunched on hands and feet, watching the stack of living vestments with a renewed caution. Gogo's eyes moved from the child, to the man of utter darkness, the two glowing dots on his face the only thing visible...much like Gogo himself.

"And that's Shadow." Terra finally finished the introductions, pointing out the black hole of a man standing behind her. "And--"

"I am Gogo," finally speaking up, Gogo took a step forward, allowing his visage to fall stronger into the light of their torches. His eyes shone in amber orbs against the flames, "A master of the simulacrum..."

"Of the wha--?" Edgar blurted out, a bit dumbfounded.

"My miming skills will astonish you, and if I deem you worthy then you may have my aid," Gogo announced, the four standing before him still a bit in shock. "But first you must tell me why you are here."

"Well it was kind of an accident, actually." Terra was the first to say anything, the others still in a bit of a stupor. "We landed on this island not too long ago, and the four of us went out looking for signs of life. There isn't much life left in the world today."

"What do you mean?" Gogo asked, a bit muddled by the girl's words.

"You don't know?" Terra responded with her own questionable dubiety, a bit astounded that someone knew not of the world of ruin. "Kefka has destroyed the world's balance, and he has left everything in ruin..."

‘Kefka!

Wow. That's gceat. Pretty well written as well. I am &uessing there is more? Or is that how the fanfic ends?

I've heard of a Gogo-Kefka twin fanfic before, but this one is different and is a unieue twist on the concept of who Gogo really is.

Nice work smile.gif

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you about this ^-^

Really well done, I enjoyed what you've got here so far. It's an interesting idea too, for how he came to be Gogo. I'd still love to hear how he got from being in a happy home to that cave, though. Are you still working on this?
