Quote (Figaro @ Last month)
There'll be a new chapter within the week.

So much for "within the week".

Chapter 11

About ten minutes later, the threesome found themselves in an item shop. There, they purchased five tonics, two antidotes, a Soft, three Eyedrops, one more Fenix Down, one more sleeping bag, and a tent. They left the items shop, and went back to the Inn, where they packed up and checked out. They had to buy another satchel for their provisions, for they were now carrying too many items for three bags. Edgar opted to carry this bag, and they made their way to the chocobo stables.

Upon entering, Terra noted that the building for renting chocobos was, apparently, the same building as the stables themselves, and the chocobos were pecking around near the back of the stable.

“Chocobo ride for 80 gil. Hop aboard?” asked the portly stable master.

“Yes. Three, please.” Edgar said as he laid two hundred gil pieces and one fifty gil piece on the table. The stable master reached down behind the counter and brought up a ten gil piece. Edgar palmed it and slipped it into his gil pouch. The stable master sauntered over to the chocobos in the back, and the threesome followed him. They conferred amongst themselves as the stable master saddled three chocobos.

“OK, you know what the plan is, right?” Edgar asked Locke and Terra. “We ride these to the base of Mt. Kolts. Ascend the mountain, descend it again, then head towards the Returner’s hideout. Got it?” The two nodded. “Good.”

“Here you are, sir,” the stable master handed the reins of three chocobos to Edgar, who in turn handed two of the reins to his companions. They saddled their bags, and led the birds outside. Edgar put one foot in a stirrup, and swung himself aboard. Locke followed suit, and Terra did the same. The king reached down and grabbed his AutoCrossbow, which was hanging from one of the saddle bags, and slung it over one shoulder. He clicked his tongue at the beast under him, and they took off into the horizon, away from South Figaro.
______________________________

Edgar led them as they galloped along on their chocobos. They believed they were heading to Mt. Kolts, but Edgar was leading them northwards. Mt Kolts was northeast.

Three hours away from South Figaro, they could see a small building a ways away, straight ahead.

Where are we going? That doesn’t look much like a mountain, thought Terra. Locke was puzzled as well, so he clicked his tongue and kicked lightly at his chocobo’s feathered side, moving up next to Edgar.

“Where are we going?” Locke veritably shouted over the light rolling thunder of chocobo talons pounding into the earth.

“Just a quick stop at for lunch. I know of an old house not too far off our path,” Edgar said in return. Locke said nothing more, and resumed his place, a few paces behind Terra’s chocobo.

The building was a house, small, surrounded by a small grove of fir trees. They halted their birds at the west wall of the house, by the well. Edgar jumped off his chocobo and quickly tied the reins to one of the well posts, and stood patiently by, waiting for Locke and Terra to dismount and tie their birds up. “Come on,” the king said just as Terra was finishing her last knot. They walked around to the front of the house, and Edgar opened the front door. It was not locked.

He walked in the door with the casual ease that he seemed to carry with him wherever he went. “I haven’t been here in… ages. Sabin and me used to come up here in the summer. Come to think of it these,” he looked at the flowers he had just passed, over on the counter by the wall. “Flowers, they were his favorite.” He stared at them for a moment, reminiscing. He rubbed one of the soft, velvety petals between his thumb and forefinger, then looked at them in puzzlement.

Locke was thinking the same thing. “How could flowers survive way out here, without anyone to water them?” Edgar just stared at the flowers, and left Locke’s question unanswered.

The king looked up. “Odd…” He walked over to the stove with a quick pace. There was a tea kettle sitting on top of it. “And this… his favorite tea…” Edgar was frantic by this point, looking this way and that, around the one-room house. He looked over at a glass-fronted cabinet, and froze. The king very nearly ran over to the cabinet.

“These dishes! They were his favorite!” He looked straight at Locke and Terra, who were sitting on a bed, watching the king. He walked over to them and spoke with a voice of yearning, of anxious passion, “Sabin,” Terra had a flash of recognition at the sound of the prince’s name, “He was… here?!”

Man, it feels good to be writing again after so long. Hope this chapter is met well. Not tremendously long, but long enough, I think.

Chapter 11

He could not believe it. All the years since his departure, Sabin had only once contacted Edgar, and that was a brief note carried by pigeon which only calmed Edgar's loneliness for a short while. Their mother had passed away when they were only small children, and their father's death had been the reason for Sabin's departure. Now, Edgar had accidentally stumbled upon Sabin's house.

"Whoa..." Locke pondered the gravity of the situation. He'd never met Sabin, but he'd heard about him as Edgar was very fond of telling stories about their youth. The thief had the impression that Edgar loved his brother very much, and would do anything to see him again. Now, it seemed they had missed seeing him by just a hair. "So..." he paused and directed his attention at the king, who was pacing around in deep thought. "What are we going to do now?"

Being asked a question immediately brought the king's full focus on Locke. "Well, I don't suppose he's been gone for long. The state he left the house in is proof he didn't leave long, and that he wasn't planning to leave. So naturally, there's only two possibilities as to what happened. One, he had to leave for a brief period and he'll probably be back soon, or two..."

"Something tragic may have happened." Terra finished.

The king beheld the woman, admiring the fact at how much she could actually ponder the current situation, considering the weight of amnesia on a person. "Exactly." He paced a bit more, then stopped and lifted his head. "I say we wait for a while. Have some lunch, and if he hasn't come back within..." he pondered for a moment. "Two hours, we'll just continue on with our original journey." His two companions nodded their agreement. The thief laid back on the bed closer to the wall to catch a catnap, while Terra exited the house to retreive the thief's satchel, which contained the lunch he'd packed back in South Figaro, before they had left. The king sat down on the bed closer to the other side of the one-room cabin, faced the wall and put his face in his hands.

Then, they heard voices right outside the front of the cabin. One they knew belonged to Terra, the other's sounded like a man wrought with age. They thought they were the only three within miles of the place, so the king and the thief

both looked up at each other simultaneously, confused. Jumping up, they headed for the door.

As they exited, they saw who the mysterious voice belonged to. It was on old man, who's appearence fit his voice. They could now understand what he was saying. "...left a couple of days ago after he heard Master Duncan was slain. He headed into the mountains."

Edgar approached the man. "Wait, wait... you know the guy who lives here?" he inquired.

"Of course. As I was saying, he left a couple of days ago, after..."

"Yes, yes, we heard the rest." Edgar quickly cut in. "Anything else you could tell us?" he quickly blurted.

"Well, only that I heard Vargas, Duncan's son, is missing as well. I have a bad feeling about this... Well, g'day!" he turned to leave.

"Where are you going?" asked Terra. "You live around here?"

"Yes, back further in the woods. Hope you find your friend!" he exclaimed as he circled around the side of the house to leave.

"Thank you!" Edgar called back to him. He turned back to his companions. "Look, we can't linger here. I think we should press onwards to the mountains."

"But we only just got here!" Locke complained. "Ah well, I've been wanting to meet Sabin for a long time. Maybe I'll finally have the chance. I'm all for eating on the go."

The king wasted no time. "Well, let's go then!" Realizing that his behior was anything but regal, he reprimanded him internally. "Sorry if I seem impatient... it's just... oh, nevermind. Let's just go."

So, they saddled their chocobos, and headed towards the mountains again.
