I usually play the regular English ROM, but the next time I play it, I'm gonna be playing i90's Expert Version 2, hopefully. smile.gif Every now and again, I'll hack it myself and play it like that, but I usually play my FF3 English ROM on ZSNES.

What about you? What do you play?

I own the English FF3us ROM, as well as i90east's expert version. I've beaten the first one, and haven't had time to really do much with the second.

I put down the english SNES cartridge, because it's the version I most prefer to play. It would logically follow that it's the version I usually play. I like it because it looks great on a TV screen (as opposed to a computer screen, where it looks ok) and it's much faster than, say, the PSX version in Anthologies.

I play the PSX FFVI, -NOT- Anthologies. I don't have a SNES and I've never had a SNES, and Roms are too much trouble. happy.gif

There's nothing like the real thing. I have mostly played the game on my SNES with the big stereo bringing out the bass. thumbup.gif Unfortunately my biggest complaint is the lack of difficulty, so after perfecting a harder version (hopefully) it might be hard to go back to the original. You know what I mean? What would be really cool is if someone made cartridge blanks that you could upload custom ROMs to in order to play them on your real SNES. It would just be the opposite process of ROM creation. Yeah... that's what I want to see.

I still own FF3 on SNES, but I don't actually have a Super Nintendo anymore (it was given to me and my little brothers, and I didn't get to take it with me to college). I also don't know how to get ROMs or emulators. As such, I play the PSX version most often, but I still like the Super Nintendo version the best.

I got Anthologies, but I didn't bother with it after awhile. It was too slow and the sound and music weren't as good. Same problem for most, if not all, the roms I've played.

Same here........youd think that a more powerfull, 2nd gen system would load faster than the original SNES version.....and it just boggles my mind how they managed to lose sound quality with it too.

Is it true that accessing data on a cartridge is faster than accessing data on a CD? Then that would explain the speed problem. It might also explain the sound problem, but I'm not sure. Maybe accessing data on a ROM is also faster than accessing data on a CD (I'm pretty sure it is), which is why my SNES ROM of FFVI plays quite smoothly, even though I keep my ROM on a CD (only when it loads before I start to play and when it loads states does it take a while).

Reading a cartridge is SIGNIFICANTLY faster than reading a CD.

The design of games on CD systems tends to differ because of this. A well designed game can avoid some of the speed problems by caching, provided there's sufficient RAM in the console and that disc I/O doesn't slow current gameplay down anyway. It doesn't look like much effort went into this for the PSX conversion of FF6. I don't remember the native PSX FFs taking so long to open the menu, certainly.

It's difficult to compare ROMs because I'm not certain how emulators read them. I assume that, where possible, the entire thing gets stuffed into the PC's RAM when you open it, effectively zeroing any load times.

(Also, please excuse me if I'm talking rubbish; I'm in kind of a daze here for some reason.)

Originally since 1996 i waws rocking the SNES Cartridge. But Due to Overuse Or whatever my SNES Joined the Scrapheap. It is currently Enshrined in a cut off area of my room like Robo In CT. Since the getting of my computer i was always lookung for a translated japenese ROM. So i put Jap ROM as my answer because its all i play. I find it more REAL due to the swearing and Absense of Lack Luster Terms LIke Son of a Submariner. and No one calls Terra (TINa) a which its bitch, Kefka has a foul mouth. All the insults he usually said are replaced with Asshole. Pardon my french to the Moderators. dry.gif

If I could only read Japanese...

I am currently hacking my rom into Chinese.
Or I was, until I came across i90east's hard version. This is the first time since I've picked up the game that I needed *anyone* over level 40 to beat the game. Half my party's at level 60 and lord Czar is still chewing my flesh from my bones.

Hard Mode 2 sounds like a dream come true.

So, my vote would have been rom on ZSnes, if my Mandarin ver. were finished, it'd be hacked rom.. and my current answer is i90east. Any y'all haven't tried that - do. The game is so much more enlivening, now that you have to pay CAREFUL attention to your party.

Long gone are the days of putting the cursor on memory and napping through Kefka's tower.

Well, quite easily. The game is called Final Fantasy VI, not Final Fantasy Anthologies. It doesn't have V on the same disc, just one game.

Well, quite easily. The game is called Final Fantasy VI, not Final Fantasy Anthologies. It doesn't have V on the same disc, just one game.

FFVI alone exists for PSX, outside of Anthologies? That's surprising. Do you have a Japanese game, or is it a specially made CD? Because I don't remember hearing about such a game being sold--FFVI by itself for PSX. Has anyone else heard of this? (This is pretty cool!)

It is the only way you can (legally) get FF6 in Europe. FFA is FF4 and FF5 here.

Not the topic. Let's move on.
