does anyone knows FFVII XP patch that actually works? (FFVII PC version does not support windows XP, causing problems especially with direct X graphic card). Since I upgraded my computer to XP, i was unable to play FFVII (well technically, yes, but only saved filed until the next part it uses "direct x" that's when i can't "advance" and my computer freezes). I tried downloading some patch, but they were even more buggy
Any information would be helpful, including where i can download ffvii ps version -------------------- I will be there... |

My copy of the CD-ROM FFVII (which a friend burned for me) works fine on my XP computer.

FF7 works fine on XP, in theory, except for the chocobo races, which crash. The XP patch floating around is for that.
You may have problems running it in 3D mode with some graphics cards. For NVidia ones, you should at least 30.xx drivers and download the NVidia/TNT patch, BUT only extract the FF7config.exe out to replace the original. Don't use the updated ff7.exe. Also try the upside-down movie patch, since it may fix other video things. Sometimes it works fine for me, and sometimes it doesn't work at all. I can't get it working in 3D at all any more. Perhaps this relates to DirectX9 and NVidia DirectX9 drivers (try DirectX8 and 30.xx maybe). |

Yes, i believe the direct X is the problem, i just don't know exactly. -------------------- I will be there... |

DX should always be forward compatible, but some of your video card drivers for DirectX9 might not be. The video fix is nothing to do with DX, but it's worth a go anyway.
Does the game work if you set it to software mode in the configuration thing? If so, it is probably a DirectX problem. Otherwise, it may be something else. FF7PC was pretty poorly written, sadly, and it's increasingly hard to make it work. You might like to consider running the PlayStation version via an emulator, which can improve the graphics in a similar way to the PC version. |

A few words about the upside-down movie patch: When I played the game, the movies came up normally, but when I watched the movie files with Windows Media Player, they were upside down, and to view them correctly I needed a mirror. Is that supposed to be the case?

It shouldn't be. Try the patch, if you haven't already - it's unlikely to do any harm. If you already have, I've no clue

This is probably your best bet in all honesty. I tried for over a week to get FF7PC to cooperate with XP, but it just wouldn't have any of it. The PSX version along with ePSXe works like a charm and the hassle in getting FF7PC to work is only going to increase as time goes. -------------------- "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." - Aristotle |

Start/Run, and put dxdiag in the box. Run that and it'll tell you the DirectX version. For your driver versions, go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, open Display Adapters, and right-click and get properties on whatever's there (check the Driver tab).
As I said, the FF7 XP patch only fixes a crash in the chocobo races. The NVidia/TNT patch is floating around somewhere, as is the upside-down movie fix. Try the Eidos site. If I were to look for them, I'd just go there or to Google, which you could do yourself just as easily. Once again, it doesn't work all that well on XP regardless of patches, so you might want to just forget about it or consider installing Windows 98 somewhere. |
