Pff. At the risk of sounding cliched, Valentine's Day is just an excuse to festoon every store in town with pink and red hearts and sell, sell, sell. It's got nothing to do with love at all, unless you count the love for money.

Having said that, I'm a hopeless romantic and an utter sap at heart, so I'll take any excuse you give me to cuddle with my sweeties. Yes, that's a plural; I'm in a three-person relationship with a married couple. We've been together for two years, and I love them both dearly.

Convenient that Valentine's Day weekend is three days long this year, isn't it? Yay for President's Day! And for those of you who are single on Valentine's Day, well, who better to declare your undying love to than yourself? Take the opportunity to do something nice for yourself this coming weekend. Go on, you know you want to.

At the risk of being massacred at the hands of all the singles out there, I think that Valentine's Day is about love. I mean, commercialism has its hand in every holiday, but that doesn't take the spirit away. Last V-day was the first one I spent with a significant other, and it was awesome. This year I'm spending it with the same girl, and it's fun to have a day where we're expected to spend all day with one another. We don't buy expensive gifts or have a lavish dinner at an expensive resteraunt, we just...be together. That's what Valentine's Day is about.

no, syndarr had it right, st. valentine's day is definitely just another excuse for Big Business to capitalise on the feelings or beliefs of american society, like easter, christmas, "patriot day," etc...that being said, "Yes, that's a plural; I'm in a three-person relationship with a married couple. We've been together for two years, and I love them both dearly." isn't that illegal? i'm assuming you're still in high school if you get off for president's day.

nevertheless, i don't pretend not to enjoy st. valentine's day. although it's probably the day i spend the most net money (i.e., give out more gifts that i don't give back since the girls down here in texas tend to feel like they aren't entitled to giving anything on st. v's, but only receiving, which i am fine with), it's also the only holiday besides thanksgiving which i have never had a bad memory of. so to all you who refuse to believe in the power of corporate america in dictating how much fun you have, get out and spend that money anyway just have a good time and don't eat too much chocolate.

10th grade: fell in love with Meredith (a 9th grader in my gym class, whom I maintain is the best-looking girl ever); Meredith doesn't like me--she likes Erik, this big weight-lifting football-playing "I'm the big MAN around here that's why I'm boss" guy, who (in my opinion) is rather ugly
11th grade: give up on Meredith; am searching for another "special someone" when I see Erik going out with the smartest (note the reference to Lucca) girl in our class, Erin--now I want Erin (but Erik got to send Erin a Valentine's Day singing gram because I found out 3 days before V. Day) (Erin and Erik later break up and Erik dates this other ugly girl)
12th grade: am still looking toward Erin when academic rival and political archenemy Josh dates Erin for homecoming (d*** him!); buy V Day singing gram for Erin; then later realize that Erin doesn't like me (she invites an 11th-grader to prom); Lauren doesn't like going to prom; and I don't bother to invite a girl from another graduating class to come to prom with me (plus I only have cash for one ticket on hand)
college freshman: think that Sara likes me because she asked me (out of nowhere) if I thought she was attractive during a discussion on sexuality (but she's currently dating someone named Scott); am hoping to have as girlfriend a girl who actually likes me

I am short, non-muscular, unassuming, moralistic, and slightly nerdish. Not that I want to be a girl magnet (I would dread that as well), but how the heck will any girl like me? Now I wonder what I'll be doing this Valentine's Day...*sigh*

Edit: Noticed something about Fadien's post about Single Awareness Day--it happens (interestingly) to spell SAD. (Not that I'm sad; just that I would be a lot happier with a girl friend whom I care about and like and who cares about and likes me--yes, that's what I want from a girlfriend (notice "girl friend" above).)

You know I thought I hated Valentine's Day when I was single but I REALLY HATE IT when I am with someone. It is basically like another Christmas and you never know what to get them. If I give her chocolate then she will think she is fat, flowers die in a few days, and I have no money (besides my beer money but that is sacred money) to get her anything really nice. She hinted that the gift she got me is over 20 bucks, now that isn't much but that is 20 bucks I don't have. I am making her dinner but that of course is not enough. So in short...I'M BLOODY SCREWED.

V-day might suck, because I took off work, but it wasn't 2 weeks notice, only a week and a half. that's bull. i swear, if my v-day is ruined because my boss makes me work, i'm not gonna make it a secret how pissed i'll be. i'll just take a write-up, i dont care. (3 write-ups and your fired)

Anyways I got all that cleared up with my boss. So my V-day will most likely be very good. We decided we're not even going to go to Snowball (v-day dance), last year it was pretty lame, and I think school dances are lame in general so. Alternative ideas are much more fun.
