the last time i fought kefka, it was all the same routine stuff, fight, magic, fight, cure, blah blah blah.
But in the midst of the battle, something popped into my head, "How did his appearance change so much? Wasn't long ago that I saw him chilling in his Foppish dreds." Anyways, as the topic implies, i got to thinking... you know how he had all that magicite after he raided the espers that were in thamasa? And then the floating continent and such? Well, my theory is that perhaps he himself developed his magic skill so much that he inturn became an esper himself, after all you don't grow wings overight. I just want to know what you think made his appearance change so drastically, i know its sort of a dumb topic, but I have time to waste before work and I'm bored. -------------------- And have you found your joy, in this near dead world of ours? |

I think he gained enough magic power from the statues to be able to turn himself into an angelic-looking demon. And from what I remember, he seemed to like that look. Kefka wasn't born an esper; he just gained magic power from magitek infusion, and then later from stealing the power of the goddesses.

I agree With GMH. The overly large amounts of magic he got from here and there turned him into a God.

I think he just took his clothes off so there wouldn't be any restrictions as he fought.

I think by adopting that appearance, Kefka finally shows (honestly, in fact!) his TRUE nature: that of a deified yet extraordinarily evil demon (possibly one attempting to avenge Lucifer). Which might be why he seemed to like it. All the rest of the game he looks like something else--be it a clown, a noble, or a whatever--which deceives the onlooker into thinking he's less than what he really is. (Yes, that's part of his strategy--trick you into not worrying about him until it's too late.)

The whole idea of Kefka turning into an Esper after absorbing all that energy is an interesting thought. Of, course, the question is.......what is an Esper. Are they gods, or just inhabitants of another world that've retained the use of magic, giving them the ability to appear as they wish. If that were true, I wouldnt necessarily say that Kefka became an Esper, only that he gained enough power to control everything from the Light of Judgement to how he wants to look.

Here's my theory:
Moogles are cool, right? Before he killed all the other moogles of Narshe, they all banded together and dished him out some serious whup ass. He was so ashamed he turned into a giant angel thing. My alternative theory is he just has a bad fashion sense. First of all he's dressing in drag and wearing make up, next minute he's got wings and pink skin. Does he KNOW what gender he is? Did he develop a complex over the years? ![]() Ooh, ooh. Another theory. Based on the Terry Pratchett Discworld theory that belief in something makes that thing exist, people all over the world are all like, "He's like a god! A destructive god who ruined the world" so he becomes a god because they all believe he is. ![]() This post has been edited by Iggy on 7th February 2004 22:44 -------------------- "Luck is my middle name. Hmm maybe after the statues, and he took over the world. We thoguth himself as a god, so he decided he wanted to look like a god, He had the magical powers to do it.

Maybe when he fussed with the magitek fusion his puny "before" body couldn't handle all the power so like Charles Darwins Theory of Evolution, he had to change to adapt to his new power thus creating the new all powerful Esper like Cefca we know and fight all the time...at least i do

Responding to Iggy's thing about Kefka changing into the "giant angel thing" and as a comment in general about when he changes: Kefka doesn't seem to take that long to change his form, since he appears just before the final marathon battle in his old self but at the end of the battle in his angelic demon form.

Kefka taps into his power and becomes a super saiyan or something. Before he would just use the power to burn stuff.

From one of the Espers that you didn't receive, called "Lucifer", Kefka learned "Satan". You, obviously, could not get this one. He casted it on himself, and now he is a Fallen Angel. Phreaky.

Regarding the what are Esper Theory. Looking back on reading the bible, (which I dont believe) I believe the Espers are Something like A seraphim Or Nephlim to the Gods(Statues). This would suggest that kefka was MEANT to be a satanic Body. As he Took control of the divine beings of sort. Every Final Fantasy has some Underlying Religious theorum. Such as Final Fantasy 7 being the GAIA cult. Final fantasy 6 was then in fact supposed to be a CHRISTIANITY Reflection. This Suggests of Course the Whole kefka=Satan thing. And Thats why i believe he looked like that. As you climbed the Tiers of Kefka, its like Symbolism for a journey through hell. and at the top is satan him self, or the CENTER as Opposed to The TOP, if you get my drift. So perhaps it was just creative reflection back to the religion to make Kefka as such

It could be that he turned into an esper, but I think that the makers of the game decided it would be best not to reuse the same sprite as you have seen him throughout the game, and instead make him look all cool and create that "bad to the bone" image. I know Kefka's not your average run-of-the-mill villain, but I still think it best that they made Kefka look a lot cooler and bad-ass than he did previously because he's the ultimate bad guy, and FF's usually have that sort of fantastic-looking end guy (at least from what I've seen, Chaos of FF1, Zeromus of FF4, and others).
What would you think if you went through the three tiers of battle looking at what is basically a masterpiece in SNES graphics to see the same old Kefka in his strange little clownish pose? As for an in-game response, he basically controlled almost all magic in the world. He could destroy the world if he didn't want them to suffer so much before its end, and he could reshape the entire world. A little thing like giving himself wings would be a snap. Or, he could've done it by drinking Red Bull. How? "BECAUSE IT GIVES YOU WINGS!!!" This post has been edited by TheEvilEye on 8th February 2004 05:22 |

So perhaps it was just creative reflection back to the religion to make Kefka as such ![]() That's an... interesting... theory. But the game already explained that espers were humans caught in the crossfire of the war of Magi. As for the Christianity connection - I honestly don't see one, unless you equate espers with angels. And ignore that angels are seperate beings from humans, and whose primary purpose is messengers and servants of God, whereas espers were former human victims of their goddesses. If you wanted to connect Kefka with Satan, then Kefka would have had to be an esper to begin with, then abandon his place among them (and bring 1/3 of the espers with him as his minions). And forget that angels don't have wings. Yes, there are religious undertones in the FF games. But the only game to have an undertone from an existing religion is FFVII. The others are mostly faiths that are more or less made up for the game (or possibly existing ones chopped up and pieced together so they are beyond recognition). The only link to Christian beliefs I can think of at the moment is the KluYa vs Zemus story from IV, and that is a BIG stretch. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |
