Quote (i90east @ 20th February 2004 03:24)
FFVI has the best music. Anyone wanna debate that? wink.gif

till the day i die, highway. till the day i die. tongue.gif

anyway, here are my top 5 battle tracks (in this order).

1. Life ~ The Faraway Promise
This is the track which you hear if you defeat Time Devourer in chrono cross by using the cc and thereby freeing schala. not sure if it counts as actual battle music, since by the time you hear this track, it means the battle has ended, but i don't think anyone will disagree with me that the first time they heard this track they thought, "wow, holy crap, mituda is a genius!" music gets to me a lot more than anything else in games (even graphics), and chrono cross had what i consider to be the best game soundtrack ever, and this track was just the pinnacle of the games' music. incredible.

2. The One who Bears his Fangs at God
This is the music in xenogears where you fight deus. i think xenogears has the second best video game soundtrack (to cc), and although this is not my favourite track in the series, in my opinion (which is not usually wrong?) it's the best final boss battle music of any rpg i've played. whereas all the ff final boss musics tend to follow the same pattern of having ominious tones and an overtaking bassline, this one kept the game's sountrack's aura of mysticism and conspiracy. it was certainly, at the same time, very fitting for a final boss battle song.

3. The Man with a Machine Gun
i have often stressed that final fantasy viii's soundtrack was the best part of that game. furthermore, i think ffviii had the best soundtrack out of all the ff's to date -- and i know a lot of people feel the same way. this particular track is the laguna battle music, and everytime this song comes up in discussion, people generally only tend to have good things to say about it. it's very upbeat and energetic, and it also has a machinistic feel that goes well with laguna's scenarios, which often have to deal with esthar and their futuristic advancements.

4. More Fighting Yet
does anyone *not* like this song? this is the ffvii boss battle music. i believe the first time it is heard is when fighting that robot after escaping from shin-ra and midgar on the motorcycle. it's a faced-paced, battle-like song, and the way uematu mixed in piano with electric guitar is amazing. the song is flawless, and it truly inspires the feeling of fighting a very crucial, difficult battle (perhaps the battles were not difficult, but it fits better with story to assume boss basstles are more difficult). This is another song that i think is widely recognised as being excellent.

5. Battle with the Demon King
maybe i'm a little too much of a mituda fanboy, but honestly, this boss battle theme (the fight with magus) captured the essence of the fight completely. it was bouncy in some parts, being lent the fast-paced boss battle themes that most rpg's enjoy, while in other parts it slowed down and had a very ethereal feeling -- it really gave you the impression that you were fighting a master of black magic who was trying to summon (or so you thought wink.gif) a beast that wanted to devour the world.

Uh...Again, I know I am not a mod, but I just wanted to stress this, since it relates to my intended purpose of starting this topic.

1. "...the best battle tracks from RPGs" (from my first post in this topic)
2. "rpg battle music hall of fame" (from the title of this topic)

I honestly meant (yes, I really did) this topic to be a discussion about battle music from RPGs (or whatever might be playing during any given battle in any RPG). I purposely didn't include other RPG music or music from other games. (That means that FFVI's Gau's theme and Coin Song don't count, IIRC.)

gozaru~, thank you for observing this intention.

FFVII boss battle music is the no. 1 boss battle music of all time!!! In other games, the music makes you get tensed when you fight a boss (like in FFVI), but in FFVII, it's so full of energy. It's the kind of song that makes me want to start a fight. It's like YAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGHHH! DIE!!!. I would dare to go up in the boxing ring against Mike Tyson if I had that song in the background! biggrin.gif

I can't really name them all, so I'll just put down the ones that I remember at the moment, in no particular order.

Battle with Magus
FFIV Battle Theme
Atma Weapon Battle Theme
Man with the Machine Gun

Oh, and I should probably mention Chrono Cross, if only because every single musical piece in that game was awesome.
