Announced on the 7th of this month, the Final Fantasy game that some people love and others hate has reached the 500,000-user mark. Over a million characters have been created since launching in May of 2002.

So while some Final Fantasy fans may avoid the game, because of fees and being strictly on the computer, there is still a very healthy fanbase for FFXI.

I myself tried the game, but just couldn't get into it. It looks like fun, and it's easy enough to play, however I'm strictly a console gamer. I can see how someone who does like playing their games on the PC, and doesn't mind a monthly fee, would enjoy this game tremedously.

That's interesting, and I hope that means it's that good of a game. As for myself, I'm not playing it because I don't have the time nor money to do so right now. I've never played an online RPG before, but I'd otherwise consider it because it's an FF.

When it's all said and done, I wonder how much FF11 will have sold in comparison to FFX and Yuna Raider and the other FF's.

Get me off this Disciplinary Committee so I can play any FF except for FF8!!!

Ditto on Elena's and Ejoty's opinions. Although the monthly fee is probably small, there's no way I could get into it and play it constantly, being bombarded with schoolwork and semester finals. Plus, I'm loathe to try out a MMORPG (I think that's the acronym...); I've never played any multiplayer internet gaming before. As a result I fear I won't enjoy it, my money therefore being wasted, despite the game being a part of the FF series. (It certainly bothers me though, having played all of the original series, most offshoots, and seen both the animated and CGI movies - basically what I'm saying is FFXI is a "completist's" worst nightmare if they, like myself, haven't yet been drawn into online gaming pinch.gif )
