In no particular order...

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

Fantasic play mechanics, unique and cool-looking visuals, music ranging from happy-fun to creepy-cool, a wonderfully unique hit point system, mega-cool bosses, fun mini-games, reply value out the wazoo...wow.

Better than SMW for sure, and one of the best platform games ever created. Although most of the Mario games could fill in this place as well.

AKI's wrestling games, i.e. Virtual Pro Wrestling 2

Each new game, comprosing a number of wrestling leagues and two countries, has been constantly adding and improving. The engines have been carefully tweaked and fine-tuned. For fans of wrestling, this is considered one the best wrestling series created (with only Fire Pro matching up).

WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game

It's the reason I bought a Playstation. A wrestling game equivalent of NBA Jam. Insanely fun, addictive, and weird. Not the most polished of games control-wise, but I don't care. I've played nearly every version that's ever been made, from Arcade to PC to 16-bit to 32-bit.

Metal Slug X

Haven't played it? Think Contra without the pattern memorization, but with better graphics and comedy thrown in. So, of course there is high-firepower and tons of explosions. Absolutely fantastic, and one of the most FUN games I've ever played.

Sonic series

What more needs to be said? Speed, simply gameplay, great graphics and music, just damn plain fun.

Street Fighter series (not counting 1)

Again, what needs to be said? The SFII games still stack up great against any competition, as far as depth of gameplay goes. The series introduced strategic one-on-one fighting, combos, and a depth of play mechanics never seen anywhere else. I'll still play it over any of the 3D fighters out there.

Vampire Savior

The Darkstalkers games are sadly underrated. Imagine though...the 3rd game...arcade perfect but with the characters from Night Warriors restored...with basically all animation intact. On the Saturn. As an import game but with English text as a secret option. Next to no loading. Freakin' boss. Capcom rules.

Chrono Trigger

I surely don't need to explain this, of course.

I will though. Great graphics, character designs, music, gameplay, time travel, and those lovingly censored changes.

Earthbound

I refuse to believe this game wasn't programmed by some very insane people.

This also has oddball translations, however stuff like people getting drunk off coffee doesn't seem out of place in this game at all.

Earthworm Jim 1&2

Excellent character, a very odd game, rock-solid gameplay, originality and coolness bursting at the seams, great art and muisc, and the CD versions are even better than the cart versions.

However, it's hard for me to get ahold of EWJ2 for Saturn, damnit. tongue.gif

Castlevania series

Whether the classic, hard as hell versions of the game or the newer "Castletroid" games, you're in for a hell of a time. Just pretend the N64 games don't exist, though. One of those classic and cherished platformer series around.

Super Metroid

Take your time and explore, or try to rush through the game for a hell of a time. The whole series is great, but Super Metroid is still the best of the series to me, because it had nonlinearity, great graphics and a lot more weapons and gizmos than the other games.

Prime's great too, though. Fusion's...well, if it wasn't a Metroid game I'd think better of it, as it is it is probably the worst of the series, though. Zero Mission looks sweet, though.

Rocket Knight Adventures

Classic Konami at the peak of their form. Classic Konami gameplay, tunes, sound effect, graphics, etc. I think it's better than its sequel Sparkster. And this one...only 8 Meg?!

Shantae

Excellent platformer that, while on Game Boy Color, looks like an SNES game (it was originally). RPG elements abound, and Shantae has tons of skills available to her. One flaw: enemies pop up after being defeated WAY too quickly. Stay tuned for the sequel, coming to GBA...

Final Fantasy VIII- This, in my opinion, was one of the greatest games Square ever developed. In terms of character development, this game has everyone beat. I love Squall. As I've said before, he's THE greatest FF character ever created. The Magic and GF's were fantastic. Sidequests to get GF's keeps me busy throughout the game. I hate Sacred, though. This is definitely my FAVORITE game in the history of...games.

Wild Arms 2- I'm STILL not through with this extraordinary game. It ios extremely challenging and addictive. I played that game for 7 frikkin hours straight; no food, no water. I haven't played it in a while so I can't exactly remember most of the characters, but I do remember they were trememdously well-developed. Music lacked a little.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty- This game was not very challenging for me. I clocked in at 15 hours. The gameplay was fabulous, though. It kept me glued to the screen in the entirety of the game. Plot...lacked nothing. The plot kept me guessing until I finally destroyed Solidus at the end, which was not very hard. Graphics were great. Overall, I rate this game 10 out of 10.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon- Absolutely THE best Castlevania game. I'm currently at level 35. The music is awesome and the gameplay isn't half bad. I especially like the cards. Collecting special armor is a fantastic addition to the already stunning game.

That concludes it. I can't list ALL of my favorite games, but you get the idea. My fingers are hurting today so I'm trying to refrain from typing too much.

Umm, ok...

Final Fantasy Series - give me a final fantasy game and I'll play it...and love it. The best in RPGs.

Sonic Series - Live and Learn...hanging on the edge of tomorrow! I've always loved the blue hedgehog. Very original gaming. Really the only games where speed is your weapon. I just love going super sonic and blasting through the levels.

Fatal Frame - The scaries game ever. Two things have genuinly scared me in my life. One of them was the experience this game put me through. It actually caused me to drop the controller and dash out of the room screaming at one point. Of course I paused the game as I did so. happy.gif

Resident Evil Series - RE comes in a close 2nd in the "freak me out" department. But it beats Fatal Frame in terms of game play. More weapons to choose from and such. And who doesn't like to cap some zombies?

Megaman Series - I love the blue bomber too. Megaman Legends has been my favorite off shoot 'cause of its lovable characters and story. Who else owns a copy of The Misadventures of Tron Bonne!? I like the X series too, but I'm becoming dissapointed with how the series is going. The bosses are getting lame and they aren't going anywhere with the story. Has anyone played X7? Man the english voice acting in that game is AWFUL!!!

Earth Bound(Snes) + earthbound Zero(NES)
Great to find out actually what made gigas the way he was.Even though they messed up badly in Earth Bound(Snes) with the prayer thing. but who cares. Still fun...

Zelda Series
obvious very Obvious

Final Fantasy Tactics
Like a very interesting Chess match
With a lot of churchies.

FFVI My first FF, and the start of my RPG obsesscion, Actually you could just put the whole FF series righ in here with the exception of Mystic Quest and 8

Chrono Trigger I loved every aspect of this game but especially the duel techs and triple techs

Metal Gear Solid Unique and engaging gameplay, Probably the best video game story ever written, and the boss battles are just some of the reasons why I've played and beaten this game about 9 times.

Super Mario Bros. 2 I like this game maybe for the sole reason it is unlike any of the other Marios , but in a good way.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past Deffinately the little Elf's best adventure to date, but then again I haven't played Wind Waker all the way through. Still, even without achieving every side quest this game is long and engaging, and who's betting that I'm gonna use the word "engaging" maore than the word "the" in this post. I do

Shinobi(PS2) Any action game that can make me cry "Sweet jesus this is freaking hard" in the first level, but can give me the smooth controls to send ninja zombies to their makers will always have my vote.

Sonic 3 They're all fun, but this one is the best.

Contra just hit up,up,down, down, left, right, left, right,B,A, then start and you've got the best party game of all time.

Metroid Series Nothing but Metroid could have kept me hunched over a Game Boy Advance for 3 hours at Target. That's right, i stayed in Target for 3 hours playing Metroid Fusion. I might need therapy, but I'd rather just remain an addict.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night What happens when you mix Final Fantasy with Metroid and then Slap on some Dracula? You get this masterpiece of the gaming world.

Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey Just let the farts fly.

Yeah! Same here! I love Sierra's old adventure games. King's Quest and PoliceQuest were awesome as well. I was about 8 years old when I first played Larry, it taught me a lot of interesting English expressions... biggrin.gif

My top ten games:

1) Final Fantasy 7- Love the storyline, SO many sidequests and optional things to do (Golden Saucer!), love the mini-games too, and yes Sephiroth is the coolest bad guy ever, think not, watch the FMVs, Coolest Char: Cloud

2) Final Fantasy 6- This was close, but FF7 already had a special place in my heart before this one came along, Coolest Char: Sabin

3) Diablo I & II (not expansion)- Such good games, never have I ever had more fun running from someone who says "Fresh Meat!", Coolest Class: Warrior/ Paladin

4) Super Mario Bros.- got to love this game, old school at its best, 129 lives baby!,
Mario's cooler than Luigi though

5) Super Mario Kart- many hour spent playing this but still never got really good at the regular game, but I ruled Battle Mode with an iron fist, which I guess is why my older sister (who owned the SNES) kept throwing her controller at my head, Coolest Char: Koopa Troopa

6) Baldur's Gate II- Again so much variability in gameplay that it's like having a bunch of games, as addictive as crack, BTW Carsomyr rocks, Coolest char: (in battle) Keldorn, (story) Jahiera

7) Final Fantasy 9- Excellent characters and a fantastic plot redeemed the series after the horrid incident called FF8, not to mention that the card game is SO addicting, Coolest Char: Steiner

8) Earthbound- what can I say that hasn't been said: unique, cool, wacky, etc.,
Coolest Char.: The Bee (Buzz-buzz?)

9) Super Mario RPG- awesome game, nice to see Bowser get put in his place by someone other than a plumber, Coolest Char: Geno

10) Warcraft II & expansion (Beyond the Dark Portal)- who could turn down the ability to turn people into sheep with such ease, 5 words: every little thing she does, Coolest Char: Turaylon

Close Runners Up: Mario Bros. 2, Mario Bros. 3, Tetris, Halo, Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat II, Neverwinter Nights

FF II (It's what it was called when I first played it, and it's what I'm calling it here) - It was the first actually good Eastern RPG game I ever played. (Sorry FF1 but you were crap.)

FFIII(See above) - It's a masterpiece. nuf' said

Chrono Trigger - Good Heavens! This game was incredible. Multiple Endings, Excellent Story, Amazing Score...I'll be typing all day if I don't stop myself here.

Legend of Zelda: Link to The Past - Best Zelda ever. Well, until WindWaker came out.

Earthbound - I've never felt so completely confused and so happy at the same time.

FF Tactics - No RPG I have played has had the amount of time dedicated to it as FFT. It's big.

Bard's Tale I - First video game RPG I ever played. "The denizens of this place attack you!"

Super Smash Bros. - Finally a fighting game where I utterly slaughter everyone I've ever played against. Oh and 4 players at the same time? How fun is this?

Halo - Me and a friend tag teaming evil aliens and bizarre mutations. Fun.

I'm forgetting a ton of course, and it's a little heavy on the RPG side just cause.

Impressive, but I played through 17 full seasons, which was just long enough for every "real" player to retire. Let me tell you, THAT'S a lot of basketball.

OK FIRST OF ALL i would like to make something clear, for those people who get "mad" because other say Final Fantasy 3 instead of 6....u got some nerve, cuz be4 it was EVER 6, they released it here as 3, so dont give us that balogna, haha anyways

Except before it was EVER released in North America as 3, it was FF6 in Japan. Since there's another, completely different game called FF3 in Japan, it makes sense to refer to FF6 as FF6, since you're not going to cause any confusion that way. If you just say "FF3", we'll assume you mean FF3j unless the context makes it obvious that you're referring to FF6.

Getting mad about it is rather tragic, but ambiguity ruins lives. (And it sounds more like you're getting mad about the reverse, to be honest.)

Seems I haven't posted in this topic before. Well, this changes fairly frequently, and there's no order, but here are a few great games:

Yoshi's Island - 2D platforming at its best. Short, but very good fun to replay. A proper game.

Starfox 64 - much like the above in that it's short and replayable. Impressive range of stuff to unlock, and going for high scores is always fun. A good cross between an arcade game and something you actually want to go back to.

Goldeneye - I'm rubbish at multiplayer, but it's still the only console FPS I can actually control (Perfect Dark aside). Bring back the N64 pad. There's also just something really special about the feel of this game.

Deus Ex - The sequel was disappointing, but the original is one of the greatest hybrids of FPS and proper RPG to crawl off the fingers of tired programmers. There are different ways to go about the game, and what you decide makes a difference; something sorely missing from most of Square's efforts.

Baldur's Gate series - I can never decide whether I prefer the first or the second. BG2 has much more interesting party interaction, and more to do, but I miss the freedom of wandering to random map squares in BG1 and chancing upon a quest. I never enjoyed Icewind Dale as much, because you didn't get the fun characters.

Morrowind - Bit of a Johnny-come-lately in that I only played it a month or two ago, but the freedom of the game is extremely impressive, even if it is a bit unbalanced.

I'll add more if I think of them, and remember to.

I'll just go thru the systems I own, there's no particular order to any of this....

NES: The Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, River City Ranson, Bubble Bobble

SNES: Crono Trigger, FFIV, FFVI, Secret of Mana, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, Lufia 1 & 2

N64: hmmm....Just didn't care for this system much myself. I bought it for the Zelda games, but I like the older Zelda's better. I'd have to say my fav on the 64 is something like Star Wars: Rogue Squadron & SW: Battle for Naboo

Gamecube: Metroid Prime, Animal Crossing, Zelda: The Wind Waker

Gameboy: Final Fantasy Adventure, Legend of the River King, Metroid II, Alleyway

GBA: Advance Wars 1 & 2, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

Sega Genesis: Gunstar Heroes - This is pretty much the only game I play when I pull out the old genesis thumbup.gif

Sega Dreamcast: THPS 1 & 2 I liked them a lot better on the DC than on PSX, Grandia 2, Elemental Gimmick Gear

PlayStation: FFVII & FFIX, Legend of Dragoon, Metal Slug X, Gran Turismo 2, Star Ocean: The Second Story, Arc The Lad Collection

PS2: Kingdom Hearts, Ape Escape 2, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 & 4

Phillips CD-i Ok, so this system just sux, altho Mario Hotel was a nice break from the standard Mario games, and the Zelda games would've been hella better if there wasn't so much lag time in the controls.

1) Final Fantasy Tactics

A full-blown masterpiece. Each character is tied into the plot, the battle system is divine, character development is an astonishing all-time high, the story is enrapturing, and the sidequests are fun to do. This is one of the games you'll play over and over for more experiences.

2) Final Fantasy 7

Another game that is a huge success. The materia system worked very well, the characters are fun to use, there's no problems with liking the plot, and there is a plentiful supply of sidequests to keep you occupied. You'll never have a dull moment playing the game...well, except revisiting Cloud's Past. There should have been a "No, I don't want to hear about your past" option. tongue.gif

3) Chrono Trigger

Just to fill everyone in, I've played Chrono Cross twenty more times than I have this game, so it's odd that I'd pick it as my number three, but the game has attained literal perfection over time, a feat that is a rare accomplishment among SNES titles. The time-travelling concept is ingenius, and adds more depth to the game than you could originally get by just walking around the world in one time alone.

4) Tales of Phantasia

This game would have kicked major ass if it had been released in the USA. Another casuality to internationalism. It has a nice fighting theme for battles, a 2-D attack rendition where you customize your attacks and pick your skills while your characters play as back-ups and hit with magic and summons. I loved ever minute of this game, to be honest. Even wandering around the Valhalla Plains wink.gif

5) Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

I only put this before Link to the Past because I can remember in detail every aspect of game. This is odd because I haven't refreshed my memory in years, but this is a kind of game you can't forget about. It's a golden game and is one of the best released anywhere. The N64 brought it to life and it was magnificent!

6) Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past

What can one say about the game? The inversely-proportional world idea was a great idea indeed. Link definately shines in this game. The wandering-around-for-hours doesn't faze one either because you get so caught up in a mindset focused on searching for the next item or [/i]next heartpiece[/i]. I loved the game to death and I'm glad my cousin never asked for the copy back.

I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of taking it away from me biggrin.gif

7) Chrono Cross

When I first bought this game I was introduced to the element allocation system. I immediately hated it and let the game collect dust on the shelf for a half-year. I found it still there when I needed a new game to play and after taking the time to learn how to use the element system, I absolutely fell the for the game. I remember playing it seven times back-to-back because I couldn't get enough. It's often compared to Chrono Trigger and seen as a lackluster sequel, but comparing to another era's game makes you lose perspective.

8) Final Fantasy 9

Another game that gets the short end of the stick in most peoples' favorites lists. FF9 went back to the medievel roots and introduced the learning-by-item system, which I loved because it would make you work for your skills instead of handing them to you after you reached a level quota. The characters were boring in a way, and the Trance system sucked and is despised by many, but the battles were great and the graphical capabilities--seen in FMVs and skill animations--are great. It's like FF8 but more interesting >=]

9) GoldenEye

I consider it the greatest shooter of all time, but I'm sure the rest of the world's population would be on the contrary. I found every moment of it fun and I strived to get the 007 rating, unlocking cheats and such. If not the best shooter, the best multi-player shooter...for the N64...yup.

10) The Tony Hawk Pro Skater series

I have all of them except THPS4 and THUG. As a matter of fact, they are one of the only sports genres that doesn't leave me feeling with a sense of repetativeness and monotony. I love skateboarding and snowboarding and seeing a franchise made out of those games was a dream come true. I'm glad they got Eric Koston on there too wink.gif

me next, me next, meeeeee

Secret of Mana
- My first love, I asked poppa fanclub for FFVI one xmas and he got me this instead. Needless to say I got over my disappointment pretty quickly!

Final Fantasy VI
- There's first love and then there's true love. This game just overwhelms me so much that I'm incapable of talking sense on the subject. When life gives you a lemon, put it on eBay and I will bid on it.

Chrono Trigger
- The final part in the mighty Square trilogy of greatness for the SNES. I will fondly remember the time these games were released as a golden age for RPGs, and look to the future for the next. I will build a shrine to these games.

Street Fighter Series - Cool cool cool. Can anything be cooler than this?

King of Fighters Series - Yes. This.

Final Fantasy VII - When I open boxes of cereal, Sephiroth should be inside. Yes, he's THAT GOOD!

Mario Party
- The quickest way to lose your friends, bar punching their girlfriend in the face. You don't really know the strength of your friendship until there's stars at stake.

p.s. honorable mentions to 'mark of the wolves' 'tokimeki memorial'

Kinda' in order

1. FFVII- Truley amazing. I just couldnt stop playing. It was my first RPG that REALLY pulled me in. The characters were unheard of for me, at the time, and the story was AMAZING!! This is a definante first.

2. Final Fantasy IX- one word... VIVI!!. and thatt's not all!! It was my first of the midevil FF's and it was GOOOOOOOOD! I loved the time setting, and i'm looking forward to playin VI because of it (I'm planning on borrowing anthology from a friend) the midevil settins rock

3. FF X- It was still, very good. I loved the developement of relationshops. The characters were cool like auron and wakka, ya? heh...

4. Legend of Zelda ocarina of time- It actaully had a plot, adn some parts were even puzzling and confusing. There weren't many characters, but who cares?

5.Crohno Trigger- LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT. time control= sweeet. The music was ok, and the characters were cool.

6.Soul Caliber 2- the most amazing fighting gme EVER!!!. the combos wern't exesive button mashing, and such. It is VERY cool. I even have everything in the whole game!

7. Animal crossing- LOL animals that talk?? The game neccesarily had no plot, and required alot of time, but the whole "real life" thing caught my intrest.

8. FF VIII- suprised this made it on the list, eh? It WAS a disgrace to the FF name, but it still deserved a spot on the list. THe reason that I don't post about it much is that is how much of a discrace i felt it to be.

9. Super smash bros. (Meele)- both were hilarious, and I think that they should make an RPG version of this, it would be hilarious!! There was a topic earlier about making a game like that witha all ff characters.

10. Mario party.

I'm only posting to defend myself, but I haven't played from VI down. But matter a fact, I asked my freind to lend it to me a while, and he said he would (Hums Victory Fanfare Music)!! So, the only reason I posted was defend myself from harm

In no particular order, a few special favorites:

FF6: The master. So many great memories....

FF4: My first RPG experience. I would rent it out and play all day all weekend long.

FF5: Part of what made this game so thrilling for me was everything leading up to my finally playing it. Learning about the Japanese RPGs Square hadn't brought over, following the fan translation on the internet, just the build up of excitement made it really memorable. Oh, the game itself was pretty damn good too.

Resident Evil REmake: This game scared me more than any movie ever did. Unbelievable graphics and atmosphere, a great story, cast, engine, voice acting, and music. Perhaps the best non-RPG I've ever played

Wild ARMs: The villains in this game had unusual depth. The character designs all around were unusually good, better than those found in certain Final Fantasies. The music is better than some of Nobuo Uematsu's best efforts. An interesting world, great puzzles, exceptionally well written characters, a very pleasing script (right down to the names of various items and places) and the most kickass intro in videogame history means this could be my favorite RPG ever.

Xenogears: At the end of the first disk, about 45 hours in, I was convinced that, after about 8 years, I had found a game better than FF6. After the second disk tempered this enthusiasm, but I still consider it one of the all time greats. No game has a deeper plot.

Lufia 1 + 2: Not much to say here that hasn't been said by others, but I'm confused: Are the endings really happy or really sad??? Either way I shed a few tears during both, only time that's happened to me. blush.gif These games are fairly similar to Wild ARMs, I think that some of the same people worked on both series.

Secret of Mana: I would drive 20 minutes every weekend to try to rent this game even though it was almost never there.

Others: Marble Madness, the Mario and Zelda series, Blaster Master, FF1, Starfox, and so on.

--------------------
Sabin: ... to Mom... and to Figaro.

"A true classic never goes out of style!"

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.... I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain..."
