it could very well be vincent because he and lucrecia had a relationship
he always had that interst in lucrecia like someone who love her left on the way side(because of the jenova project)

also it could be hojo because it shows him on the date with lucrecia, but it could have also just been that he drugged her out to inject the jenova cells

so basicallly it could be either, except i believe it is vincent, and heres how the tail went;

vincent and lucrecia had a very deep relationship, vincent got her pregnant
hojo and ghast saw this as the perfect opportunity to further their experiments, so hojo and ghast pursueded lucrecia that it would be for a good cause, lucrecia eventually gave in, vincent was upset about it and held his tongue. On the night of the cell injection vincent got angry and attempted to kill ghast, however ghast shot vincent. Since vincent was in a near-death state ghast decided to use him for another experiment. leaving vincent and lucrecia as labrats for the jenova project
and creating the vincent and lucrecia we know.

which is why i believe that vincent is sephiroth's father

if you mean purly bilogicly not takeing into account the jenova cells then id say it was viny(hence why i clicked it) but if you mean dad rather than father- a dad being someone who raises you and teaches you stuff a father is just one half of the two people that conseved you (and its the easy half at that) then it would be neither since vincent was in stasis in that coffin and gast just experimented on sephiroth

I say that it's Hojo, because I'm fairly certain that it hints heavily (or even outright says) this it's him in the game. You have to get to Lucrecia's cave later on to learn about it.

Sephiroth's father is Hojo. Vincent and Lucrecia had a relationship going but then she left him for Hojo. I suppose it is possible that Vincent got Lucrecia pregnant before she left him for Hojo. But I believe Elena is right, it at least hints heavily that Hojo was the one that got Lucrecia pregnant.

The game does indeed indicate very clearly that Hojo is his father. Hojo experimented on Vincent at another time as a result of his meddling (presumably ethical objection to what was being done to Lucrecia).

It could be that this is false information from Lucrecia or Hojo, but there is no evidence of it in the game. It is something they could bring into a prequel or sequel, however.

I say that it was both. Hojo and Vincent were both fathers in some way. Vincent was so much cooler, though, IMO.

Well after seeing the Advent Children Trailer without a shadow of a doubt Sephiroth is Hojo's kid(IMHO). I saw the sadistic look in his eyes that said to me he was definately Hojo's son.

I voted for Hojo, mainly because he does say during the Midgard assault that Sephiroth is his son (right before you kill him, he says something about giving his son more power with the Sister Ray) and because of the scenes with Lucrecia in her cave.
Also, Cloudstrife, I think you're wrong when you say that Ghast shot Vincent : it was in fact Hojo who shot him, as you can see when you go visit Lucrecia in her cave. Even if he was a Shinra scientist, Ghast turned out alright when marrying Ifalna and giving birth to Aerith...
