I don't want the next question given what I answered. It's up for grabs except for canucklehead.

The next question should be open to anyone now, since The Ancient asked the last question but one. Please avoid answering questions set immediately after your turn, unless posters are clearly having difficulty.

I was of course planning on leaving it open to anyone. Does this mean I can't guess at it?
Moderator Edit To keep this from going further, I'll just quote from the first post of the thread, where the rules are. Quote [5]If you set a question, then someone else answers it, don't answer that question, i.e. don't make it a one or two man show. If you really feel the need to answer a consecutive question, you don't get your turn to ask; it's open. Hey Gozaru, PM me a riddle!
Thanks for the numbers, The Ancient. Now, for a lesson in probability for everyone! Okay, each status apparently has a .25 chance of being inflicted. There are 8 statuses, and each is independent of one another. That is to say, being hit by one status effect does not increase or decrease the probability of another one hitting. To illustrate independent events, say you flip a coin twice. You get 50/50 heads/tails. On the second flip, it is still 50/50, regardless of the outcome of the first flip. If your first flip was tails, this doesn't mean your next flip is more likely to be heads. It is independent. Now, the probability for independent events is as follows: P(A & B ) = P(A)*P(B ). In non-mathematical terms, the probability of A and B both occurring is equal to the probability of all the individual things multiplied together. This is only true for independent events. Therefore, being hit by all 8 status effects would be (.25)^8, or .25*.25*.25*.25*.25*.25*.25*.25. Each status effect is independent, there are 8 of them, and each one has a .25 chance. What The Ancient calculated was the average number of status effects that the enemy would get hit by. So on every use of that ability, one would expect 2 status effects to be inflicted. By the way, 8 * .25 = 2.00 = 200%. If I'm wrong, I really hope someone takes a gun to my head for arrogance and idiocy. Edit Is there anyway to type B ) adjacent such that you don't get a happy face? you still didn't answer the question ^^. the answer is indeed (.25)^8, or 1/(4^8) = 1/65535. go.

The Worst Part??? I knew that the probability was .25 * .25 *.25....
I just thought I could simplify it by doing .25 * 8. Back to 4th grade for me. -------------------- "That Light has bestowed upon me the greatest black magic!" |

Quote (gozaru~ @ 27th April 2004 05:50) you still didn't answer the question ^^. the answer is indeed (.25)^8, or 1/(4^8) = 1/65535. go. Uhh, didn't I? Well anyway, I'm really bad at creating trivia questions. How about this... When can a character use a non ranged normal attack on an enemy with Blade Grasp at 97 Brave and still get a decent chance to hit? By non ranged normal attack, I mean you go to the 'Act' menu and choose attack, and you're not using a gun. By decent, let's say 90-100%. Assume that the enemy is naked and that he has no status effects. Thanks, The Ancient. You might want to clarify that the enemy doesn't have status effects. Otherwise there are too many answers

I'm actually not sure if that works. I can test it shortly, though.
Edit: Okay, tried it. Looks like you're right, Weasel. The answer I actually had in mind was when the attacker was a frog.
