No offense to anyone here, but am I the only one that is reminded of Charlie's Angles when I see the T.V. ad for FF X-2?

That's because you see three women who can fight, and want to associate it with another three women who can fight. In reality, the game isn't anything like Charlie's Angels, except that there's three women, and they're attractive. That's it.

Haven't seen it, what channels do you usually see it on? What times?

I think it's probably pretty smart of them to make that play. I think they really wanted to go a bit tongue-in-cheek with this game, to give the series a bit more personality than before. But like I said, I ain't seen the ad. happy.gif

I have seen an ad for FFX-2 crunched together in a big heap of PS2 ads for Christmastime, and it did sort of remind me of Charlie's angels, the way they were in the similar formation. But it got so little screentime, since they wanted to fit so many different PS2 games in.

it didn't remind me of charlies angels at all when i saw it
(and for channels to see it on, try comedy central it has been on that channel pretty often)
they are not nreally like charlies angels, the only reason you may think they are is because they are 3 hotties, but that is about it
and when i say hotties, i mean the origonal charlies angels, not the movies with the very ugly drew barrymore *shudders*

That comment gives me fear on three counts....
1: its on comedey central a lot? Thats not good....
2: 3 'hotties'? the orginal 3 aint so hot nowadays happy.gif and I think Paines ugly.
3: that the comparison is true, its TRUE! PAINE IS DREW BARRYMORE!!!

I really didn't like the idea of Squeenix making a sequal of FFX of all the series to sequal. Then when I heard they were making it a femme trio thing I was disappointed. I realize that there is a comparison to the Charlie's Angels. I mean Everyone is defending FFX2 by saying that it's only that the three girls are kick-ass and purdy and that's why they seem the same but hey, isn't that what Charlie's Angels paved the way for?

So, what are you saying here, AD? Females can't fight in groups? Or be RPG leads?

Of course females can fight in groups....
Never heard of Lionesses?

And as for RPG leads... women can kill just as efficently as men in the modern world thanks to Messers Smith and Wesson
And thats why Yunas got twin 9mm's...

Now that's an interesting thought. I assume that you mean strictly male characters that you can have in your party, right? Because there are male supporting characters that are often around Yuna, Rikku and Paine (Brother, Buddy and Shinra).

It's been done before, though not for Final Fantasy that I know of (in FF1, I don't think you can even tell if they're male or female). I think people would be dissapointed that there are no female fighters, but as long as there were females in the game somewhere, it wouldn't be too bad.

I say the Charlie's Angels similarity is quite vague without even seeing the ad. I'm in the midst of the game and straight up loving it, and this game is not like that old show. The new movies can burn in Hell or DMV or somewhere almost as bad, because of how they make the younger generations seem such phony commodities. thumbup.gif
I look at Charlie's Angels as a slightly amusing novelty, and I look at X2 (though I love the Yuna Raider joke) as a fully enriching way to pass time whether you're a game-nut or just curious. Hence, one does not remind me of the other.

i just recently started playin ffx-2. the 1st ff game i played was ffx, but i totally got hooked. i beat it recently and started play ffx-2. it does remind of charlies angels....epecially because rikku, being the blonde, is soo....goofy... also, that scene where u chase those fem-goons (chapt2) to the hot spring but go all the way up the cliff, and there is this scene of them bathing in it and fighting really reminded me of it....this game is certainly more......fun...than ffx., lol

But at 1:00 new years day i watched southpark the movie wit some friends and X-2 cmmericials were some of the only ads. But umm they are also dvertisn X-1 greatest hits with X-2 now trying to reel in all the money.

I did finally see the ad, and sorry, I don't see all that much of a connection between that and Charlie's Angels. The only, only connection is that they have a stance where the three of them are kneeling/standing, and that's similar to a stance in CA. And probably to many other groups of fighters :-P

Besides, who would be Charlie? Brother? They walk all over the guy. ^-^

in the advert., i see very little of the charlie angels thing. all im thinking is....ok, you defeated sin, saved the world after a thousand years of suffering and what do you do? become a popstar. blink.gif

anywho, the game itself is much like CA, especially the beginning (where they intro the chars and have those funky disco-y scene where they show their name), and also how you get missions from the boss and go do them.

The commercial has one girl singing an incredibly annoying teeny-boper song while the other two kick the living crap out of guys. It reminds me of Charlie's Angels because it was three girls in next to nothing whiping the crap out of guys.

Girls wearing next to nada whipping rear-end is nothing quite so unique, and I don't think the number 3 is enough to make the Charlie's Angels connection. The only thing that could clinch the comparison for me would be if they were silhoutted in colors or holding a walkie talkie or something.

3 sexy guys kicking but would be a zillion things (especially Frodo Sam and Gollum... teehee). I think we're giving you so much friction because 3 action-ladies making cool poses is too general of a similarity. It does make sense, but it's like saying Sadam Hussein is Santa Clause.... oh wait, I said that one..... but that was a joke, so it's different. smile.gif

IMO the girls do strike a lot of poses that remind me of charlies angelsa lil. But for me its more spice girls and "Girl Power" then charlies angels.

HEY! I like Charlie's angels, even if I'm not a big Drew Barrymore fan. And I think Paine's hot, but I said the same thing about Lulu in FFX, so maybe it's just the type of girl...

And don't rip on "Real Emotion". That's my wrestling theme song. A 20 year old male technical wrestler called 'The Highlander' from Pittsburgh, PA who wears a kilt and enters to 'Real Emotion'. I'll let y'all figure that one out.

Back on Topic: The Charlies Angels link is just a sort of joke, really. The advert may be spoofing, or parodying the Charlies Angels films and the old TV sereis, and from what ahs been descriebed, it certainyl seems that way

Hey Elena, how about not nit-picking everything I say to be a sexist remark? If you have a problem with me why not come out and say it?

I never implied I had problems with an all-female lead I think he started this topic to ask if anyone else sees the connection? I havn't played it so I wouldn't know if there are any other characters than three women. I hate the main characters where as you enjoy the game. Therefore we have our biases. I see the connection with Charlies angels for the same reasons i4v sees it, the end.

Moderator Edit
I never said anything about the remarks beings sexist. I was confused about the point you were trying to make, and asked you 3 questions. I don't know why you're taking it as an attack of some sort. If you want to continue this, please PM me, or PM another admin to complain about me. - Elena99

remember when square made good games? that ended in what, 97?

ffx-2 looks stupid, and if it's anything like ffx must be crap. the commercial looks really horrible, too... it really doesn't make anyone want to go buy the game, it makes it look like a huge joke. them running around singing songs or whatever? square needs work in it's advertising department. remember how ff7 had decent commercials, that would make people want to play it? yeah

I hate what I've seen of X-2, which is that comercial (shudders) and one of my friends play like the first 30 minutes of it.

I hate the idea of 3 girls being main characters, it's just not FF to me.
It's a sequal to a FF game!? If they did it with 7,8 or 9 I wouldn't mind but X just dosen't do it for me, I WANT FFT-2 dry.gif

Err, there have always been 3 women/girls as main characters since FF4...
4- Rosa, Rydia, whatever the hell twin was the girl
5-reina, faris, krile
6- Terra, Celes, relm
7- Aeris, Yuffie, Tifa
8- Rinoa, Smellofpee, quistsis
9 Dagger, Eiko, Freya
10- Yuna, Lulu, Sqeakku
what ive seen is a patchwork assortment of screenshots, that have ultimatley led me to the conclusion that the main boss in the game is a fish. But i think someone got mixed up somewhere.

Anyway, if i see an advert, i'll buy the game. cos it means its out.

I believe, if there was a main character to FF6 it would undoubtedly be Terra, so it is entirely possible to say that the whole concept of FFX2 is complete and utter crap without it having anything to do with sexism. The only saving grace of this new game is the fact that they reinstituted the job system, but that is extremely cheapened by the fact that the driving force behind this descision was so that pre-pubescent boys can see the girls in an assorment of dumb, slutty outfits.
