A long time ago, on a message board far away, a similar discussion once occured, which lead to the avatar being nicknamed "SEPT". I can tell you that the last three letters of that stand for -Eating Pink Thing.

I'm sure (or at least, I hope) that wasn't the intention of the artist though. (S)he does pull the brown food from a rather interesting position, indeed... but it looks to me like there's some kind of bone running through it, to me, which suggests some kind of animal meat. How (s)he can swallow a bone (and please pay no heed to that unintentional double entendre) is another matter entirely, of course.

It definitely has a bone through it. It looks like the bait from the original Zelda user posted image

I assume it's a frog. Maybe one of those brown toads or something, just some kind of amphibian. It does look very questionable though.

It looks to me like a mini loaf of bread, or a large bun.

I think a frog would be appropriate, though.

It's worth remembering that the avatar was made before FF9 was out, and I doubt the artist knew of any frog connection at the time. (If you've ever wondered why the FF9 animated avatars don't look quite right, by the way - the colours are off on some of them, for example - the time they were made would explain that, as well).

It does look like bread, now you mention it, but those white bits at the end still say Animal Chunks™ to me.
