it depends on where youi get them if they're free or not, also you can try to find them by typing in key words such as "playstation emulator" or sites (sorry this site is a guess i can't remember where i got mine) www.emulators.com
and when you're doing this it is harder to find playstation/PS2 emulators than it is to find something like a snes emulator

good luck trying to find one, i'll try to respond with a more sure answer after i talk to my friend, this'll take a while though since his family is on vacation.

It's not at all hard to find a PlayStation emulator. (PS2 and onwards, though, there are no sufficiently complete emulators yet, so you won't find one.)

NGEmu is a good resource for such things. The best emulator at the moment would probably be ePSXe, but to use it, you'll need to get plugins to handle the graphical and sound output. NGEmu has lists of these. You'll probably want some form of Pete's or the PEOpS graphic plugin, and the Eternal sound plugin works best for me.

But yes, it's free. The good ones are. The days of Bleem! are long past.

You'll need real PlayStation CDs to pop in your CD-ROM drive if you want to play anything. Otherwise you need to download full copies of the CDs. They tend to be pretty big and, in any case, we can't give links to them here, as you've just read above.

I had a playstation emulator (after my PS1 broke), but a PS1 has 32 bit graphics, and my computer's only capable of 24 bit.

I don't condone getting a PS2 emulator, because they're still in stores. I have an SNES and NES emulator because they and their games are much harder to find, and the companies don't make money off them anymore.

I've had a ps1 emulater and about a week later I got a virus on my computer. Long story short some ROM's are jacked after never dl'ed anything that wasn't published and store bought.

You can't get a PC virus from a ROM/ISO. It's not executable code for the PC. The only possibility is a virus-infected emulator, which won't happen if you download recommended emulators from official sites.

Whats a PS1 emulator? -RAC

I should think it was pretty obvious by now, but...
RAC, a PS1 or PSX emulator allows you to pop a PSX game disc into your computer and you can play it on your PC. Not all games run perfectly, as a matter of fact, I still have to find one that works perfectly, but they work fairly well on good computers. I play FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX, and GT2 on my computer. Like Tiddles said,ePSXe is probably the best. It's the one I use thumbup.gif
