my favorite character would have to be frog he is a true blue hero the only downside is

you can't male him human during the game, only at an ending scene can you make him human, which was a rip-off, because you won't get magus if you do
i spent the whole game trying to make frog human, i expected him to be more powerful as a human, and have better skills. which as a human he probably would not having frog be human during the game, was in fact the only bad part of the game, every other apect of the game was great.

I think Magus gets waaay too much credit. He's very useful but his lack of double-techs (and the need of an item for triple techs) are disadvantages. Besides, the double-techs are by far the most useful skills in the game, leaving you a free character to heal while the others attack. Antipode 3 is the best "bang for your MP buck" spell in the entire game, so it's better to use that than most others.

If you designate your other two characters to powerful double teams, there's little other need for anyone else but a healer--which Magus can't do unless you have healing items.

His lack of a useful single-target spell can be a problem also.

Don't get me wrong, he's awesome, but he also has his share of disadvantages.

I'd almost pick Robo for his restorative beams, but he's too weak with offensive magic.

I'd personally take Frog with Crono closely behind.

Frog's my favorite storyline-wise. He has powerful offensive magic, great healing magic, and has one some of the most powerful weapons in the game (the Wondershot one in a while does more, but only the Rainbow is regularly more powerful than the powered-up Masamune). He has some of the most powerful double techs in the game, and has some great triple techs as well.

lemme see...storywise, is a hard question. I mean, crono is obviously the center of the universe and time and that is AWESOME! But, the other characters have merits as well.

Frog-goes from being a zero to a hero and conquers all odds and defeats his greatest enemy. Well, he CAN defeat him but thats if you wanna kill a certain so-and-so. I do this occasionally, just so i dont have to hear his arrogant mouth.

Lucca-Flat out cool. Id rather Crono end up with her than Marle. I dunno why, just personal preference.

Ayla-Shes a cavewoman. She beats the hell outta things, and...thats it. Oh, she also gives Lavos his name. Guess thats cool too

Robo-learns emotions, and destroys the ones that created him. He also moved on his originial programming, which was to destroy all humans. After lavos is destroyed, he goes to face a feature that may not have him, and that is extremely brave. Hell, i dont think i could do that.

Marle-I use her throughout the game, but im not so hot on her character. She is a spoiled little brat with a "my life is so hard and nobody understands" complex. I know people in real life that do this, and they annoy me to know end. However, unlike those ppl, when she sees ppl that are having a real problem she overcomes her selfishness and helps them. Thats admirble, and would redeem herself with that if she didnt revert back as soon as theyre safe. Bah!

Magus-Uses and exploits everyone he can so that he can gain power and knowledge so that one day destroy lavos. Reminds me of vegeta so damn much it makes me wanna puke. That plus he was a whiny kid makes me want to blast him with a kamehameha. But since i cant, i guess i wont.

Okay, so storywise im going to have to say the best is robo, and a close second is crono. I love crono to death, but i have to admit that robo overcomes much in his "life". Sorry folks, but i just dont like magus.

I like Robo. The whole unhuman, futuristic, having to fight his brother(s), no feelings thing really reminds me of Data from Star Trek TNG. There are probably more similarities, but I haven't played CT for about two months now.
