It's academic in FF VIa. Get the esper. Beat the game stealing a Ragnarock and a second Ultima Weapon. Save the game after the credits. Now you can have the esper and the sword (or Illumina), and genji glove 2 Ultima Weapons. For that matter, beat the game again and equip two Rags or two Illuminas. You can have as many of the best three swords in the game as you desire given enough time (don't feel guilty; you'll need every twink you can muster for the Dragon's Den).

With an older version of FF VI the Ultima Weapon/Valliant Knife/Genji Glove/Offering combo is a very good way of making things dead in a single turn, but if you want two charicters with some serious O, you'll need more than two weapons dishing out the hurt.

As for the morph debate
Veterans do drop Cursed rings very rarely. If you didn't get driend meat back in Moblez, it'll be hard to come by in the WoR. You can get Exp. Eggs in the collesium: Imp Halberd (dropped by the dinos) -> Cat Hood -> Merit Award -> Rename Card -> Marvel Shoes -> Tintinabar -> Exp. Egg

HOWEVER

In some games, it is possible to morph a cursed SHIELD from Didalos. This is casted by the game loading from the wrong item data and replaces one of the cursed rings in his morph possibilities. This is a similar glitch to how you could occasionally steal a Ragnarok and Ultima Weapon from Goddess and Doom. It is doubtful that either screwup will appear in any version but the SNES one, but it's a way to get 254 items instead of maxing at 252.

i go for the esper, but i have learned my big mistake and take the smart way. which is the sword.

and then you can get the paladin shield to learn ultima, but another way to train your mens and uncurse it, is go to the dinosaur forest and train there. your men will be strong and then you get the shield and ultima there. two in one also with the other.

so taking the esper isn't a wise choice, cause u don't need it.

Taking the sword isn't a wise choice because you get one later.

People need to look past Ultima and see the uses of the actual summon.

With the Esper, if you're lucky, you can obtain some very rare items. But you DO have to be very lucky.

In the gameboy FFVI you'd have to be a fool to pick the sword given you can get an infinate supply later as said, but at that time in the game where you make the choice, new gamers won't know that. =P
