What was your main party the first time you played through the game? What was the party of the last game you played? If the two are different, why do you use different characters now? I'll start.

First Game (1994):
#1 Gau
#2 Sabin
#3 Cyan
#4 Gogo

Last Game (2003):
#1 Gau
#2 Edgar
#3 Celes
#4 Cyan

I don't use Sabin anymore because I need someone that can equip swords like the Illumina. Plus I needed a good caster out of the box. Celes fills this role. Gogo's stats are terrible, so Edgar is his replacement. His tools are powerful and easy to use.

My personal best party would be Terra, Strago, Sabin, and one of the following: Locke, Shadow, Gau, Gogo.

Terra--my permanently top magic user. Very powerful in normal status, extraordinarily powerful after morphing.
Strago--my second-most-powerful magic user. Also has lores, of which GrandTrain, Pearl Wind, and Step Mine tend to be very useful.
Sabin--Bum Rush and Air Blade.
Locke--with a party consisting of three other characters that strong, he can be the weak one but help out by stealing a lot of stuff. (Hey, even potions can be slightly useful!)
Shadow--solid attack power, and throws weapons while ignoring target's defense.
Gau--a very powerful character if you know which rages to use when.
Gogo--can double as an extra 4/5 Sabin, 4/5 Strago, or 1/2 Terra. Or all three when you choose Blitz, Lore, and Magic. If you don't want to duplicate what you already have, you can always put Steal->Capture (with the ThiefGlove), Tools, Swdtech, Rage, Slot...the possibilities are (almost) endless.

Sabin: blitz is too good to pass up plus i had him with 2 power wrists
Edgar: his tools are really good + i also had him with 2 power wrists

i don't really use certain character for their skill (normally) i just put my friends name. I kept my Locke and sabin's level high anyway ^^

i still use this party. i usually don't need to steal anything (despite helpful items in WoB) so i don't worry about it till after the phoenix cave. i just like to stick with my favorite characters.

I tend to stick with the last party over and over again, because it works so well. Terra is a great caster, Sabin is a great physical attacker, Shadow can Throw for automatic maxes, and Interceptor helps too. Edgar and Mog are more or less interchangeable for me, as they are roughly equal with their respective advantages; Edgar's Tool ability adds some great versatility, while Mog's Snow Muffler ensures a killer amount of combat survivability.

Next time around, I'll probably hit it up with one of the more esoteric teams, like Gogo, Relm, Strago, and Umaro, or something.

Quadra Slam and Quadra Slice always deal a lot of damage, and it's fun to watch. The Swdtech charge up time is not a problem if you have one automatic character and let the other two characters attack first. Later in the game, 4 hits means more than 9999 HP damage per turn.

the first time through, i used:

i never really liked sabin much for some reason so i still dont know why i used him constantly, i guess i always meant to change him out but never did. even so, hes a very powerful and versatile character and it was probably for the best that i used him, especially in my first run through the game.

nowadays, i use:

Terra
Setzer
Locke
Gogo

I've played the game a few times, but I've always used the same characters (I'm a bore, I know). I need to start using some other people.

Locke was there because he is my favourite character. I'm not into stealing and such, so you might wonder why I want to keep him. Well, truth is it's just for the feeling. He's my favourite, so I keep him. I also give all the best stuff to him and make sure he's the only one at level 99 with all spells and best stats. Childish yes, but what won't you do for your favourite?

Edgar and Sabin are two powerful attackers. Blitz and Tools!

Mog is there because of his dances (which aren't as bad as many people seem to think). The first time I played, I didn't know about the Snow Muffler, so I didn't use Mog for that, but the other times, I equipped it. I mostly have Mog because I like the guy. He's cool.
