I like it when a game is hard. It makes it more challenging, but once you beat a really hard boss you feel good inside. That is why I love challenging games. I think Velius is just right for the battle. He is a very difficult boss, but he is beatable.

In my game I was faced with the same problem of Velius beating me so i did somthing I rarely do. i looked at some guides on the internet. which of course wound up being good for i found out i was 8 levels to low. (by what the guides said for suggested levels). So i just chose to go back through the game leveling up more

With proper skill settings and levels you can beat him without that much trouble. His difficulty is really appropriate, it shows you if you've leveled enough to easily get through the next section of the game.

a good way to beat him is to be a squire use the yall and accumulate skills. you get 15 lvl or so. all you do is max out your speed and attack when your in the one on one fight. then you can kill Velius in one or two hits. you must max out in the 1v1 fight though.

Velius is WAY too hard, I mean, I got close to beating him once, and then, just my luck, some guy broke in and stole my PS2, which kind of prevents me from ever having the "great experience" of winning a gard boos fight. Oh well, I buy back my PS2 this Christmas, maybe then I can give it another chance.

Yeah , it kind of did. However, losing my PS2 has got me into playing more PSone games that I never tried before, like Symphony of the Night. Oh, and to keep this from being off topic, Velius is still way too hard.

i think he is not way too hard, but a bit more challenging then i expected of a boss. I like to fight him though, as challenges are always welcome. I beat him with 4 people, because at the time i had no clue as to how to get more people. I had lvl 40 people, but i was waaaaaay too conservative. i had a samurai-ramza, yellow chocobo-boco, chemist, and a knight. All had best i could buy and the best i had earned.

you know it's not velius himself who makes the battle hard
its his three goons, whenever you try to get to him, they get in the way and enable him to run, and cast cyclops, withuot them, you could probably womp on him like most of the other zodiac bosses

I kicked Wiegraf's ass with a Monk with Two Swords and Counter, but when Wiegraf changes to Velius and summons his Archaic Demons, I get the stuffing knocked out of me. One will hit one of my characters with a Giga Flare, and another will follow up with a Dark Holy, slaughtering the target. Aside from that, Velius always summons Clops or Titan in three turns or less!

Velius was really easy in my opinion. One attack beat him thanks to yell and accumulate. Trying to get away from him is the hard part.

He's only hard if you have no clue what you're up against. After you've played through a few times and cultivated strategies, he's not that hard.

Power-leveling and running away doing the Yell-Accumulate method certainly is effective, but not exactly a chivalrous way of fighting, in my opinion. Whatever gets the job done I guess.

I'd say he's just right, because I love extremely difficult battles. The real trouble with that game came from fighting Wiegraf right before he becomes Velius. I know a couple kids who used only one save file and were always quite underleveled, they'd have to start the game over, being simply too weak to beat Wiegraf one on one, and of course at that point you can't leave to level up.

Black Mage + Math Skill + Magic AttackUP + Calc. Flare = dead demons.

Lich is also effective, as it seems that Archaic Demons are more susseptable to Flare and Lich than Holy...oddly enough.

Wiegraf is definitely difficult, but a few steps can be taken to alleviate that. If I remember correctly, a chameleon robe (or something that absorbs holy) was available at that point, and get float on yourself with the right shoes, and he can't Lightning Stab or Earth Slash you. Then it's a matter of time.

Velius was hard, but not impossible. I don't have a definite strategy for battles like this because there are so many variables involved, but with a chemist or white mage or both, you can't go wrong.

As we discussed in a different thread Absorb holy doesn't absorb the sword techniques.

All Sword Skills are non-elemental unless used with an elemental sword. Rubber Boots also don't nullify Lightning Stab, but I'm sure you inferred that already.

Feather Boots are useful for narrowing down his attack selection.

i thought he was quite easy, i had ramze as a squire with two swords, two strong lancers with weapons you cant buy at this time because they were stolen ihn a previous battle, a ninja with two swords, and a very strong monk, he died pretty quick, plus i have the symbol that is stronger against him

I never had too much of a problem. The hard part is that you have to 1v1 weigraf. If you deon't have a save outside the castle you could have to restart the game if your ramza isn't good enouph.

Well, if it doesn't, Wiegraf is a fool. I equipped the Chameleon Robe, and he never Lightning Stabs me. Wiegraf uses a Diamond Sword, which is non-elemental.

That's strange; is there a reason he doesn't Lightning Stab you if you equip the Chameleon Robe?

I believe it's a bug : originally the swordskills are supposed to be non-elemental, but Holy Skill seems to be considered as Holy-elemental.
I'm not sure : I'll try to look into it tonight.

my current game was the easiest I beat Velius in. party consists of Ramza, Agrias, Rad, a generic male and female, all Summoners with secondary magics.
First turn against Weigraf, Meteor, battle's over. smile.gif
First turn against Velius, Ramza casts Meteor again, kills all three demons, Velius goes down after a Holy and a second Meteor.

I should probably also note that my party was around level 28.

The easiest and cheapest way to kill him is to keep on using Yell and Accumlate. Then you'll be able to kill him in one hit.
