If you pass up treasure first time through Figero cave, in locke's scenario, you can get a Thunder Rod on the way back through.

You can't, but you can speculate from Shadow's dreams and the evidence of the Momento ring that they are related.

Well, hypothetically I suppose that the Ghosts from the Phantom train could since their POSSESS skill cancels out invincibilities to Doom spells.
That is, of course, hypothetical as a Ghost can never even fight against a Guardian. No one else, to my knowledge, is able to defeat them. I don't even think that Leo can before he is killed in Thamasa... I always had to run away if I ever got into a fight with one of the guardians there. -------------------- Je ne t'aime plus, Mon amour... Je ne t'aime plus, Tous les jours... |

A very interesting question! However, the way you put your question strongly gives me the feeling you don't know quite what you're talking about:
You could've meant that it's Setzer who can dispatch the Guardian with his Joker Doom spell. However (and like many a time, credit goed to ZED for this knowledge), you cannot pull off Joker Doom in the battle against the invincible Guardian. The thirth reel needed will under any circumstance skip the needed tirth seven and hit whatever comes next, resulting into a Lagomorph. Extremely trivial knowledge, so don't be ashamed if you had no idea. There is a way to actually take care of WOB Guardian...but I don't think you're thinking about that. I'll wait to see what the others, and eventually you, come up with. And Leo cannot defeat Guardian. This post has been edited by Djibriel on 23rd May 2004 00:48 -------------------- |

I've read about a muddle, smoke bomb trick that can beat the Guardian, but I think it can be used by any character.

I'll go with elimination.
It can't be: Gogo nor Umaro, because they don't appear in WoB. Strago nor Relm because they appear too late in the WoB. Shadow, because he isn't in our party when we can fight Guardian. Leo, Shock doesn't damage Guardian. Wedge, Vicks, Banon, Ghost nor Kappa, do I have to say why? Terra, Cyan, Celes, Egdar, Sabin, Locke, Edgar, nor Setzer, any of their attack may damage Guardian (I think) So A very wild guess... could it be Mog with Snare? OR Maybe it's a tricky question. In that case, I would say that the answer is Kefka because he has the power to destroy Guardians. -------------------- «À l'aventure compagnons, je suis parti vers l'horizon! The Ancient already mentioned the Muddle/Smoke Bomb combo, so I can now rant about why and how. Observe how I deliver pretty solid proof on how the invincible Guardian can never be defeated in a way that doesn't involve something along these lines.
First off, the Guardian nulls any damage you try to inflict. It has nothing to do with extreme defences or anything, so barrier-piercing moves won't help. Anything that results into damage numbers appearing will become a 0 damage effect. I'm not totally sure about healing spells, but I'm pretty sure that even Cure2, Potions, Elixirs and those things will result in a white 0 since the same thing happens when used on character under Petrify. Even the Atma Weapon will do nothing. I name the Atma Weapon here because it is the only way I know of that can inflict damage on a petrified character (1 HP, to be precise). So the ticket should be instant take-out. Metamorph isn't availabe in the World of Balance and even then, WoB Guardian is completely protected from Metamorph. Furthermore, Guardian is immune to Death, Stone, Zombie and Clear, meaning that no instant death spells work and Vanish/Doom isn't an option. There is thus one way to make the battle end in another way then running yourself, and that is to force Guardian to 'run' by using a Smoke Bomb on him. Smoke Bombs can only be targetted at your party, so you'll need Muddle or something else that inflicts the Confuse status. Although it's always been the Smoke Bomb involvement, I see to direct reason to dismiss Warp Stone/Warp as a possible strategy. Hypothetically, the ghosts Possess skill, one-hit KO Specials and Fallen One would be able to resp. take out Guardian in one hit and lower to a single HP, but with the latst still no ticket to victory and all three not availabe when fighting the invincible Guardian anyway, it's just a no-go. But feel free to prove me (and everybody else) wrong by giving another answer ![]() -------------------- |

You guys are giving it a good try! But yes, it has been done.
![]() Who is it that can "take care" of the WOB Guardians? You might groan when you hear the answer, but when I realized the answer the first time the last time I beat the game, I was very impressed. I don't want to give too many hints, but I will give you my first hint later today if we have not come any closer to the answer. -------------------- "Look at me! I'm a receptionist! G'fa ha ha!" You've got me very intrigued right now. I could've sworn that you were thinking about Setzer's Joker Doom, but apparantly not.
Quote who is the only person that you have that can beat the Guardians in the WOB? This implies that we can only choose between: Terra Locke Edgar Sabin Cyan Celes Gau Setzer Mog Leo Edit Side Note: Terra, Mog, Setzer and Leo are not available in all three Guardian battles I've checked, and invincible Guardian is, as was to be expected, immune to all status ailments that you could possibly be immune to. With HP Leak not available and Freeze both not availabe and not even helpful, status ailments couldn't be it. Other vital limitations that come into play I've posted earlier. If it's one character only, then it depends on Skills. Seriously, I don't see it. No skill I can think of comes even close to doing something helpful here: Morph = No. Steal/Capture = No. Tool = No. Blitz = No. Shock = No. SwdTech = No. Slot = Without Joker Doom as an option, No. Dance = No. Rage = No. Runic = No. Any kind of natural magic from Terra/Celes: No. Terra learns Warp all by herself, but you still need Muddle to use it successfully. And plus, Carbunkl teaches Warp too, still giving the answer that ALL characters can do it (except for Leo). Drat! Drat it all, I say! Blow Fish/Step Mine both get nulled, and Sketch provides no answer either. I'd say that the trick here is the way SuperManBoy puts his question. He's not talking 'Death' here, obviously. So it can only be a forced Hide status. But no character can do that! I'm afraid I will smash something regardless of the answer. If it's a 'real' answer, I'll smack myself for totally missing it, and if it's a trick question, I've been worked up over nothing. Maybe that there is some bugged magic that bypass the 'invincible' status.

Only status-ailment inflicting could bypass such a thing (unless you want to write a custom coding for bypassing used invinciblity command, but it's not in the game), and the only status-ailment inflicting move that bypasses status protection like that is Joker Doom.
And Special when talking Death, I need to figure out one day why Imp-inflicter Specials automatically miss when the target has Imp protection but Death-inflicter Specials happily screw you out of your well-deserved miss message there. May be related to the automatic Death you recieve when reaching 0 HP. Neither are options. Edit I'll throw in something that resembles a guess now. Guess...such a yucky word to come out of my mouth in a FF Forum. At any rate: Since both the Guardian at the Imperial Palace and the Guardian at Thamasha is initially 'triggired' by Imperial Soldiers, are you talking about Vicks and/or Wedge? Djibriel, wouldn't the only attack that could hypothetically destroy the guardian be the Ghost's possess? Doesn't it ignore invincibility to death spells?
I still vote for the Ghosts on the phantom train, if that is the case. ![]() -------------------- Je ne t'aime plus, Mon amour... Je ne t'aime plus, Tous les jours... |

Depends on how hypothetical you want the word 'hypothetical' to be.
IF you would have either of the ????? characters (the ghosts) with the Possess skil in any of the invincible Guardian battles, they would instantly take him out, yes. IF Setzer could pull off Joker Doom, then he could take it out in one hit, too. IF Gau would pull of an instant death-special in one of his WoB Rages, then he could take it out too. Unfortunately, these things are only IFs. This post has been edited by Djibriel on 23rd May 2004 19:53 -------------------- |

Very intriguing, i know nothing of the peculiarities of the game, but i'll guess anyway (i'll probably get shouted at by someone):
Gau uses his Life 3 rage on Setzer, Setzer then utilises Joker Doom and reraises after he dies. Not vey good guess, but considering even the knowledgeable ones on here don't know for sure its worth a try. |
