A few questions:
Quote One way is to use Gau's Rage command's Battle/Special on a character with less than 12.5% of their max HP. Can you name the other two ways? I assume you mean you let Gogo use a physical strike through Rage? Or use Rippler to swap it on another character which isn't Umaro or Gau? Also, did you see all this behaviour in-game? I have no reason to doubt you, mind you, and nothing in the code would contradict what you posted. It's just that I can't see everything what's going on in there, and the Fight command can be tricky (the Ogre Nix is an example, it will never break when it's wielded in a Black Belt-induced counterattack). -------------------- |

My sentence could have used a little better grammar. Let me clarify.
If Gau has less than 12.5% of his max HP, and uses any Battle or any Special Rage attack, then there is a chance that he will do a Desperation attack in place of the Battle or Special attack. It need not be Gogo. The target does not matter. The BlackBelt Desperation Attack I saw just recently. The Rage Battle and Rage Special info I got from Zed. And the Berserk answer is based on the fact that Berserk is nothing more than autoFight + Haste + extra damage, which was confirmed by Zed's review of the code. If that is not clear, let me know. EDIT It is true that Gau has no Desp Attack. I put Gau's name in the sentences so no one would confuse Gau's Rage Skill with the Rage spell in Mog's Dances or the Rhyos' Rage Special attack. It stands as fact that Gau's Rage's Battle or Special attack function as a Fight attack for purposes of conjuring a Desperation attack. How that feat is acquired (whether by Rippler or whatnot) is another story. This post has been edited by Detah on 31st January 2005 20:56 |

I see. I agree with ZED on this one (and the mouse said to the elephant, are we heavy or what?).
Berserk causes auto-Haste? That's new to me. Some notes on Gau here: a ) Gau has no DA, so he will never, under any circumstance, use one. b ) Let's assume another character is Raging, be it Gogo or another character (Rippler). They needn't necessarily posses 12.5 % of their maximum HP, nor does that requirement guarantee a possible DA. Some monsters are immune to Near Fatal, which is the status needed for a DA (it's automatically set when you reach 12.5 % of your max HP, and is cleared as soon as you leave that area). This means that when Gogo/somebody else is Raging a monster immune to the status (example: Ninja), and they reach less then 12.5 % of their maximum HP, the won't gain the status and cannot use a DA. On the other side of the coin, if they are 12.5 % of their max HP, and THEN select a Rage immune to the status, they will keep it and will become unremovable, meaning that it won't be cleared when higher grounds of HP are reached. Presto: DA possibilities at maximum HP. This is all exploiting conflicting code of which the results were never intended by Square in my opinion, but that shouldn't stop us from using it ![]() This post has been edited by Djibriel on 31st January 2005 20:04 -------------------- |

...so what you're saying is, Detah gave a misleading example, outlining a situation that isn't possible? it don't really affect the question. at any rate, thou art kind for posting the clarification, Dji.

Yeah, but his train of thought was accurate enough.
I've got another two: characters under the effects of Charm can automatically execute DAs, as can characters in the Colloseum. Note that Zombie and Confuse will stop Desperation Attacks. I know there's a next question, but just wanted to show off ![]() -------------------- |

COUNT, Poison, HP Leak, Seizure, Setzer spins 3 sevens, Muddled character attacks Cyan and kills him, Gau returns from LEAP and glitches the game. This post has been edited by Detah on 31st January 2005 21:01 |

Cyan boarded the Ghost Train. So, technically, he was dead while he was on the train?

Detah, 3 things:
1. that is 7 answers 2. you can't answer a question you granted (ie. I answered your question, received the turn and you are answering...does that make sense?) 3. some answers are wrong: 3 sevens won't kill him (you're thinking of 77bar), a muddled char wouldn't have time to do act when cyan finishes, and I, like you, don't do glitch answers (although technically psycho cyan is a glitch/bug (whichever it may be) ![]() Adam, nice try, but not what psycho cyan is. I'm sure you will find out through the search button what I am referring to. imperial stooge, technically that could work, so you're up. -------------------- "Fire and steel follow me through the lands you will burn hordes of hell in the deadly raging flames of revenge" Rhapsody - Flames of Revenge |

I'm not sure if you can use Palidor to kill him fast or not, but the way I'm thinking of doesn't require any summons. Good guess, though.

First, you've got to have a character with insane speed from using Odin. Second, your insane speed character must have the Genji Glove and Offering and weapons that can do at least 3875 per hit on average. Third, this character must also have access to the spell Quick.
Now, go through the first two tiers of the final battle being sure to keep this character alive. Here are the conditions that must be fulfilled when you finish the third tier: 1) Your speed character must have a full ATB bar 2) The character's auto cursor must be on the spell Quick. 3) Of course, the character must not be dead. Then, when you get to the battle against Kefka, the speed character's menu will open before Kefka can speak. Cast Quick right away - if you don't, he's going to do his speech. Then, you get sixteen free hits at an average of 3875 damage or higher, and 3875 * 16 = 62000, which happens to be Kefka's HP total. So he dies before talking, you proclaim ownage, and I put the next question up for grabs. -------------------- My soul is bound to the Mistress of the Afterlife, and my fealty is to her always. Hmm, I'm probably wrong on this but I'd have to say Kefka's Theme. It's my favorite tune and it remember it always seeming a bit off in a grand scheme sort of way. Or maybe it's a part of Dancing Mad, Dancing Mad was a bit of a different tune too.

Yikes ... Tonepoet, you're right. There is some 7/8 time in Dancing Mad (Kefka's tier). However, I'm looking for the theme that is entirely in 7/8. Good job though, I'd forgotten about that one!

WOOHOO!!! SOMEONE ELSE is into FFVI's musical greatness!!!
In any case, welcome to the Caves of Narshe! I'm the resident self-proclaimed videogame music freak; nice to meet you! The track you're thinking of is track 2.20, 'Another World of Beasts'. One of the highlights of the soundtrack, in e-flat minor but with quite interesting use of harmony. Dancing Mad, part 4b (track 3.14.4.2) simply has very *doesn't know what to call it* meters--while the main meter of the fast part is 8/8, there are the famous 15 beats of Kefka's theme strung in 8+7 in the melody and 7+8 in the bass, while later there's a sequence of 7/8, 8/8, 7/8, 8/8. -------------------- Check the "What games are you playing at the moment?" thread for updates on what I've been playing. Hey, go check out my profile. It will tell you a little more about my musical adventures. I could do it here, but I need to go soon. Good work!
