How about 255, since it's the highest value allowable - at 256 it resets to 1. But that wouldn't be character specific, and since you asked for Strago's specifically... I'm probably wrong.

Well 255 is the highest number it could be for most characters, but perhaps for some reason with Strago it can only be 254 due to an exception (255 being reserved for a special Lore-related value or something). That's my guess.

could you give us a clue? I am sure that the esper max is 128, if that helps. I am accurate in my previous statement about the armour, as those give the most magic block possible. what could I be missing?

Your Esper max (128) is correct. Your equipment is not correct.
You are also missing a simple, crucial piece of the total. Just to be clear, we are talking about Magic Power, the stat which determines how powerful your spells are, not Magic Points (aka AP) gained after killing critters, nor Magic Points, the source for casting spells, nor MagicBlock%, the defensive stat. |

merit award + genji glove + illumina/ragnarok (+7 for either) would work in conjunction with the other things I mentioned. didn't think of that. takes the total to 153. 'tis my final answer. otherwise I be stumped.

Now I'm starting to wonder.
128 (max with Esper boosts) + 7 (Magus Rod) + 7 (Magus Rod) + 5 (Magus Hat) + 6 (BehemothSuit) + 0 (Genji Glove) + 2 (Barrier Ring) = 155. I can't see what the problem is with Master ZED's numbers. I couldn't see the problem either, and then I realized he never answered the with/without Esper bonuses question ("the very max" doesn't say anything about Esper boosts, but it deceives everyone to believe it IS w/Esper boosts). So it's either 61 or 155. Given the equipment is correct, it can't be anything else.
I really don't think Detah would cheat everyone with the 61 answer and then not telling anyone that Espers don't count (that would be extremely lame given the initial response's implications), so his math must have been incorrect. -------------------- |

Using the 'equip anything' bug from FF6j, you could have both Magus Rods on Strago without the Genji Glove, opening the possibility of 157 max. Magic Power.
I seem to remember that Detah was pretty strict on ignoring bugs in his answers, but I can't detect a flaw is ZED's/Corundum's logic so I thought to mention it. -------------------- |

WTF... now it's way too vague. 61 (initial rating 34 + equipment) is wrong, 155 (max Esper bonus rating 128 + equipment) is wrong, yet the equipment is correct and the question is supposedly simple.
So my question is since we're talking about Strago here, how the hell is the answer not 61 or 155 given the equipment above? Dji: Equip Anything has no restrictions outside of what Optimum won't touch (unlike Equip any weapon which does), which only applies to certain weapons and armors. Four Enhancers (not entirely certain four Magus Rods are available, so I'm going with something I know will work) and two Barrier Rings equate to 160. -------------------- |

Four Magus Rods aren't obtainable beyond the Sketch bug, so your safe route was a wise one.
In other news: Painfully restricted view of the world  On the other hand, I probably wouldn't want to meet a 70-year old guy wearing nothing but two rings and four swords, so who knows if I subconsciously rejected that possibility. -------------------- |

155 (128+ 27) is the correct answer. I messed up and added his initial stat score of 34 to the total and I was waiting on a 189 answer.
I am sorry for any distress (grey hair, red eyes or loss of sleep) this question may have caused you. Anyway, I thought I would share my vision for this question. I am playing a LLG right now. My goal is to get Strago with 139 Magic Power and 116 Vigor. Heal Rod/Magus Rod, Magus Hat, Behemoth Suit, Economizer, Gem Box. Then test to see how many Spells and Lores can do max damage to a single target and to multiple targets. I'll post my results in this forum. |

Q. How can you do a Desperation Attack without using the Fight command? I know of 3 ways. One way is to use Gau's Rage command's Battle/Special on a character with less than 12.5% of their max HP. Can you name the other two ways? |

I'll take a guess and say Mimic before any other commands have been put in (basically making it a normal attack) and Berserked.
Edit: Gogo is listed as having a desperation attack (X-Meteo) and technically speaking Mimic is not the same as the Fight command. Thus wouldn't it be 4 different ways to do a desperation attack? Just curious is all.
