Although incomplete, there is a Japanese website for FFVII: Advent Children that features a picture of Cloud and Sephiroth, and no doubt will soon have more information (in Japanese, of course.)
RPGamer confirms that there is still no release date for this title, however. * * * It's still hard for me to believe that they're actually doing this. I've heard all sorts of rumours, from the movie being just a re-enactment of the final fight, to it being a continuation with Sephiroth not being the actual Sephiroth that Cloud killed at the end of the game. I'm anxious to see what the movie actually is. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

I believe there is a release date for this move. At www.ffantasy.com they say that it will be released in the summer of 2004. If they are telling the truth or not, I do not know. I also could have read something wrong, but I read over several times to try to confirm my statement. If you find anything else on it, please message me. I am a big fan of Final Fantasy VII. Thank you.
------------------------------------------------------------ Updated I have just found out more information on this topic. The magazine, GameInformer, says that Square Enix will release it in Japan during the summer of 2004 and it will be released in the U.S. shortly after. GameInformer also says that will be an hour-long CG movie. They also pan on re-releasing the original PSone Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation 2. All of this infromation came from GameInformer magazine volume 127. I will continue to look up more information on this subject. a new F7? heres hoping they upgrade the graphics if thats true, but back to topic: a relese dat of 'summer 2004' is a bit vague, but better than nothing. But im still confused as to potential storylines here...

Square Enix is trying to keep everything quiet about the movie. We do know that the major characters are Cloud and Sephioth. The rest of the Final Fantasy VII crew has not been talked about at all. Square Enix does not want the public to know everything about it. They are pretty much taking the same steps with Kingdom Hearts II.

Possible spoilers: highlight to view some plague wipes out humanity and Cloud is the only one alive There is a guy that looks like Dante in there (The pics I've seen, Cloud was fighting him), and there is a question of whether Sephiroth is alive, or he's just a flashback (to me, the pics make him look alive, since they're not exactly scenes from the original game). -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

For this one, a few days after I first heard about it, on another forum, someone linked to a fansite with loads of information on it, and plenty of source info. But it's been down for about two-three weeks. Though it's probably for the best, since the guy had a speculations section that made his credibility shoot way down. Edit The site was here, and I kind of doubt it will be back up any time soon, so don't hold your breath. Moderator Edit Unless the site decides to arise in the guise of an error message, I doubt anything valid is going to come from that link. ![]() This post has been edited by Neal on 16th November 2003 03:33 -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

That's a let down. I always welcome information on any upcoming Square Enix product. I try to make it my job to know whats going on in the game world. If the sight gets back up, I would appreciate it if you message me the web address that contained information on advent of children. Thanks.

Flase rumor. They can't make a FFVII sequel because the game engine is too old and out-of-date. The only reason FFX has a sequel is because they made one right after the original, allowing them to use the old game engine. Edit ![]() Oh well, pre-emptive strike against sequel rumors, I guess This post has been edited by Dark Paladin on 17th November 2003 02:50 -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Noobinator, you are correct. As a said previously, GameInformer magazine edition 127 says that they are re-releasing Final Fantasy VII along with Final Fantasy VII: Advent of Children. This comes directly from GameInformer magazine.

Re-releasing or re-making? There's a bit of a difference there.
The argument that the engine is too ancient absolutely doesn't mean they can't make an FF7 sequel. It apparently means, however, that it wouldn't be such a (relatibely) trivial task as 10's. In my opinion, reactions to Advent Children and any remake/rerelease are likely to decide whether any new games get made in the FF7 world. |

They are re-releasing. Square Enix hasn't said anything about improving the graphics, but I believe that they will. I hope they add more side-quests as well. But they are re-releasing it, not re-making. Like I said, this comes directly from GameInformer magazine, issue 127.

But that's what I mean: a rerelease implies, to me at least, the exact same game as the original. Only a remake would imply any kind of graphical/gameplay/plot improvements. The most I would expect from a rerelease would be "bonus features", similar to those on the PSX FF4-FF6 and CT versions.
But we're getting ahead of ourselves, here, anyway. Only time will tell. To those who've visited the website: any speculation as to what's happening with Cloud's left hand side (our right from the viewer's angle)? He appears to be growing some kind of electric coat. |

Cloud's coat looks like Sephiroth's. Maybe it's a hint at Sephiroth trying to control him again.
I just hope that they're not resurrecting Sephrioth, and that as the title implies, the main characters are "children" of some sort (maybe Cloud's child versus Sephiroth's?) By the way, just one hour seems a bit short, don't ya' think? P.S. Is it just me or do the characters look kind of older and more haggard than you'd expect? Possible spoilers: highlight to view the movie is to take place 2 years AFTER the events of FF7. i got this from rpgamer i believe, although i am not sure. when i said re-release, i more or less meant reMAKE. or at least an upgrade. whether they do it or not, i have no idea. cant it be done? yes it can. want an example? play FF Origins. ![]() -------------------- once you can accept yourself, you will never be alone |

![]() but it is sure that square's working on it. Bah. Why can't they do this for FFVI? Isn't FFVI more popular than FFVII among people who had played BOTH all the way? Square knows too little ![]() -------------------- I will be there... |

Quote (Bismark87 @ 21st November 2003 03:14) Isn't FFVI more popular than FFVII among people who had played BOTH all the way? Square knows too little ![]() Not necessarily. Don't forget you're looking at a site that used to be entirely FF6 based, here, so opinions tend to be skewed in its favour (just like they were for FF7 at FFOSG and FF8 at FFGurus for a fair old while). And even if it is more popular among that group, there are probably simply more people who prefer FF7 overall, including people who never played FF6 and simply prefer 7 by default. I say this based on sales figures, and how 7 was the breakaway hit that really brought the series widespread recognition. And yes, ignoring purely speculative comments elsewhere in the thread, FF7:AC is a movie. Nothing has been officially stated about the game, that we know about. A rerelease of the original title would seem a likely option to coincide with the movie's launch, but Square had already stated in the past that a sequel or remake would be unlikely. I don't think it's likely to change unless the movie is popular, but you never know what old ideas those crazy guys are going to stick in a "new" game next, these days. |
