If you ever played ff8, you know what I will be talking about. Did you ever notice that ff8 has a lot of things that both final fantas vii and final fantasy vi had. It is as if Square Soft slacked off when they made the game. Here a some things that I noticed.

1.) All of Zells limit breaks come from Tifa's. That is easy to see.
2.) Doesn't Squall's final limit break kind of looks like omnislash?
3.) Rinoa has a dog that attacks her ememies. I think that came from Shadow.
4.) Selphie kind of reminds me of Yuffie. Both annoying and hyper.
5.) Irvine is like a clone of Edgar. They sound exactly alike. Always trying to get along with the girls.
6.) Biggs and Wedge in ff6 and ff8 are enemies.
7.) When Rinoa gets her limit break where she opens up wings and uses very strong magic spells, it reminded me of Terra's morph ability.

I thought this would be an interesting subject because I talk about it a lot with my friends. Were always trying to find things ff8 has that other older final fantasy's had too. Well, have you seen any other things that ff8 did that was similar to any other final fantasy's?

Well, there's always an annoying girlish character in pretty much every FF: Relm, Yuffie, Selphie, Eiko, Rikku..

And Biggs and Wedge are in pretty much every FF as well, though sometimes Biggs is translated as Vicks.

And one by one I watched every constellation die
And there I was frozen, standing in my backyard
Face to face, eye to eye, staring at the last star
I should've known, walked all the way home
To find that she wasn't here, I'm still all alone

yes i too noticed this and i (after much thought) came to realize that the creators thought that after 2 major hits such as VI and VII that they would use elements which they thought spiced up the games to make VIII greater than its predecesors. which could have worked, but they messed up.

*which would also explain why VIII had so many damn commercials

*except tifa's limit came off of sabin's blitz skill which later became zell's limit (and overall blitz is a really powerful and flashy limit/ability

*also if you go further back edgar's flirting came off of edge from IV, and there are many other places where square linked games, such as the almighty and sometimes wise cid who comes in every game

I'm talking about the names of Tifa's limit breaks and Zell's limit breaks are exactly the same. All of the names of Zell's limit breaks, such as Doulphin Kick, Meteor Dive, and his Final Heaven came from the name of the limit breaks that Tifa has. I see no blitz techniques that either Zell or Tifa have.

All Final Fantasy's use similar ideas and concepts over and over again. These "Copys" come as no surprise.

1) They were supposed to be the remenance of monks in their games. Monks have had similarly unique skills since FFIII
3) I think there was an earlier SNES game with the same dog-companion concept.
5) Who, as Cloud pointed out, were both basically clones of Edge. You of all people should know that.
6) They're also in so many other games, including CT
7) Hmm.. That actually did not come close at all from where I was sitting. Oh well, if you count Galuf's super power-up when he went solo against Exdeath, the transformation came earlier.

If you want ideas drawn from earlier games, look at FFIX.

What MorgueN said. The Final Fantasies appear to be unconnected plotwise (unlike other series like Mario or Mega Man, for example), but in fact have a whole ton of common themes and elements.

I guess it was only me then. I always saw ff8 had a lot of different things from final fantasy vi and vii. The first time I noticed it was when I saw Rinoa's dog attack. You guys win. I still ponder over it though sleep.gif .

don't give up so soon edge, i have to aggree with you here. Another thing everybody seems to miss is the fact that squall is basicly cloud with brown hair. Think about it, they are both solidiers,
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
They both lost their memorys
and they are both "depressing" characters.

Ideas are borrowed throughout all the games in the series. The two most prevalant ones are the use of Bahamut in every single one of them (I've done a little research and couldn't come up with anything about Bahamut being in FF2, anyone able to verify?), and a character named Cid playing in integral part in all of them starting with FF2 (the Japanese of course).

You forgot chocobos! They're very prevalent in the series.

There's also moogles, and then there's the theme of a major character dying, the theme of confusion as to who's the real archenemy, and other plot-element themes.

There will always be similarities and cameos shown in 2 games made by the same company, this is a way to kind of "tie the whole thing together" and brings a sense of unity to the series.

Atleast thats they way I saw it, but what I didn't like was that Squall was Cloud in blonde hair as mentioned by DisasterChild8.

I concur with you Edge, FF8 mimics many other instalments, but this mimicry can be seen in most other square games aswell.

nameless virtues is right. They had to put those cameos and stuff to mae up for the lack of plot. ( a lot of prepostions eh?) wait a minutedude thats what makes FFs so great you fall in love with one and it makes oing it again even easier man.

You're right, FraudulentTommah, Bahamut is in all of the games except for the first two. That's because the concept of monster-summoning didn't make its appearance until the third game, so there wasn't really a reason for the King of Dragons to play a part before that. Which is unfortunate, because they always make him such a great character to boot. smile.gif heart.gif

Wrong, Bahamut is the King of the Dragons in FF1.

Whoops! You're right. I meant Bahamut as a summon, but yep, he's in FFI as a character. Yay him. happy.gif

And the funny thing is, I just did a scene on FFMUX wherein I was roleplaying Edward telling the story of the Light Warriors, and I even mentioned Bahamut, the King of the Dragons. Should have remembered. blush.gif
