I looked at a poll and saw that Locke was the most well liked character. I, in fact, think Locke is a pimp on have always saw him as a cool character. I like how he acts in the story, but I couldn't find out if he was good in battles. Is Locke a strong character to use on your team? If he is, someone please tell me what key things to equip to him to make him a strong character. Thanks!

I am also a locke fan (look at avator). I usually give him gengi gloves with excalibur and atma weapon and the strongest armor i have with an exp. egg.

I personally don't use Gengi Gloves, Offerings, Economizers, or other really powerful items, so my point of view is probably different.

For me, Locke is an almost useless character until he gets either the ThiefKnife or the ThiefGlove. Before that, he can attack for a regular amount of damage, or he can attempt to steal (but isn't always successful). Locke has neither impressive attack nor impressive defense. I'm not much of a fan of speed, but I prefer characters who can cream enemies with powerful attacks and/or defend themselves against enemy attacks very well. Which is why I consider Sabin, Strago, and Terra to be the most useful characters.

Once he gets either item that lets him steal and attack simultaneously, he becomes moderately useful. His usefulness depends on what enemies in the area have available for stealing and how easily he can steal stuff from them. I tend to take him along when I have more than one party to construct, but he usually doesn't make my main party.

Hawk Eye, for me, made a shockingly powerful weapon early on. When he tossed the thing at his enemies, it'd land and deal the damage of an entire round's worth at once. Surprised me on more than one occasion.

Towards the end, it came down to:

Wing Edge
Genji Armor
Genji Shield
Genji Helm
Thief Glove
Sneak Ring

He turned out to be a (pleasantly) surprisingly great fighter.

the ideal armor for locke should be the cat hood, but he cannot equip it (not without editing your rom).
the cat hood picks up all available gp's, and that suits the treasure hunter best, not relm. even if they would have named it something else.

For me, it's about what a character can do in battle that no one else can. So Locke's relics would usually be the Sneak Ring and the Theif Glove.
Weapons and armor would always be whatever everyone else was wearing at the time, since I always just get the most powerful stuff for everyone.

Locke is a lot of fun with a Genji Glove and two Hawk Eyes. It's great when he throws both of them. thumbup.gif

Yea, Hawk Eyes are Locke's most awesome weapon. You can stick him in the back row and you have Hawk Eyes when your going through the Esper cave on the way to the Esper's gate. This is very early, plus you stick the Genji glove on him and watch him throw the Hawk Eyes a whole lot. Kills almost everything in the cave on his own in my old scenario.

It's no secret that I've always disliked Locke. Although I must admit that he can be funny, and his presence is central to the plot, I've always found that he's somewhat outclassed in personality.

Character quips aside, his Steal skill never appealed to me. Admittedly, there are some games where stealing is extremely useful, but FFVI isn't one of them. I'd much rather use a more versatile and immediately effective skill, such as Blitz, Throw, or Tool. It seems that later on the developers were just looking for excuses to force you to use him, since both the Phoenix Esper and Ragnarok Sword/Esper are extremely powerful, and require Locke's presence.

On the rare occasions that I used him, I usually equipped the Wing Edge. It's fairly powerful considering when you can get it, but it becomes sorely outclassed by other weapons later on (i.e., weapons that Locke can't equip). The only really useful thing about it is that it can be used effectively from the back row, which is nice.

The thing about Locke is that I don't think he's that the most useful character in battle, but he has a HUGE role in the plot. But his "Steal" can occasionally turn up rather useful items, especially in places like Kefka's Tower. (You wonder how there are 3 AtmaWeapons--or is that 4, including the other AtmaWeapon (i.e., Atma) in his tower?)

well, appealed to me as the main character of the WoB and is the central focus of celes living and going after him in the world.
stealing has its uses, u just have to know who to go after.
rhinotaur-M.claws
ralph-tiger mask
aqulia-ECONOMIZER
brachosaur-ribbon
eh, there are many others, but those are the ones i find important(other than the gods and goddesses).
he is also a pretty decent fighter, and can attack quite a few times before the enemy if leveled properly.

in the returner hideout, locke tells terra he joined because the empire jailed someone important to him.
but in kolhigen we find out that the empire killed rachel in an invasion.
kind of strange, because the empire has no pressence in the western continent, and at the time of rachels death, hadnt invaded narsh, south figaro, and probably doma castle....

You're both correct actually. The cutscene you get with Locke at Kohlingen after the Narshe battle in Rachel's house should explain everything.

Locke is awesome because he has an awesome personality and he is easy to level up.

My Locke was at level 60 and had 99 magic power and was a pretty strong fighter besides knowing all magic spells.

Locke is pretty awesome because of his character mostly though.
