If you like metal, not necessarily the extreme stuff.. Theres a band called Pain. Its a Swedish band (you cant tell from the sound) and theyve got a really cool sound. They even have a cover of the Beatles Elenor Rigby. Good songs: It's Only Them, Shut Your Mouth (was played on Much Music for a few weeks very rarely), Expelled, Elenor Rigby.

lmfao Slipknot? You've got to be kidding me. Your opinion is your own, but Slipknot is just a horrid HORRID excuse of noise giving a bad name to to metal. Slayer does kick ass, like I mentioned before.

NRH Tactics Master, I know of Vital Remains, and I kind of like them, but I haven't taken enough time to really listen to them. Decapitated is alright, they sound very generic metal to me, but they're ok.

Morbid Angel is a really great band, along with Dying Fetus, despite the commercial attention brought to them in the metal community, they do actually kick ass.

By the way, the Red Hot Chili Peppers kick boat loads of ass.

I love Dream Theater, I understand they might be hard to get into because they have such long, technical songs, but that's prog for ya. I'm a huge fan. Opeth is great, too.

How about Primus? Any Primus fans around here? They're still kicking it, going on tour again for the first time in 3 years (with Tim, the original drummer).

Children of Bodom is a sick metal band, check them out.

and Dream Theatre isn't that great by the way, I mean, how long can you stretch one single song before it gets boring? They're ok, but I mean every song is 12 minutes or longer, and I can't take too many very long songs. A few is fine, but EVERY SONG is just overdoing it.

I thought so too at first, but once you start to learn how the song is made and know all the parts, it's not boring at all. I mean, I can listen to "The Glass Prison" (which is about 14 minutes long) without getting bored. Feels just like I'm listening to a 3 minute song or so. The only time I hate long songs is when they get repetive and boring. But Dream Theater does this very seldom.

Oh, and two of the songs on "Images And Words" are not long! "Another Day" is 4:23 and "Wait For Sleep" is 2:00. shifty.gif

Amido: Yes, Red Hot Chili Peppers are wonderful. All members rock at their instruments. I like the older albums a little more than the new, but the new ones are great as well.

Edit: I found that brand new song I was looking for it's Sic Transit Gloria...Glory Fades. Damn good song!

I think it was a good thing that STP called it quits just like it was a good thing that Billy Corgan broke up Zwan. I think that all the artists that were around in the grunge/post-grunge era either sold out, got too addicted or found some kind of epiphany that caused them to make soft music, Zwan was awful. Poor Billy Corgan wanted the Smashing Pumpkins back so bad he made another band and it sucked. However the RHCP have been keeping it quite real. Dispite all of what has happened to the guys they are strong coming, they have experienced a lot, thier music has changed only a little but thier sound is the same. I HATE it when rock stars suddenly change thier image/format. It makes you think what they are doing now, or worse, what they were doing is all a fake show. Courtney Love, or Kid Rock is a prime example here. Granted, Courtney had to get over her husband's death, but everyone seemed to forget that Courney had the same sound before she dated Kurt. If if someone even mentions how great Kid Rock is, I'll smack thier lips into thier teeth, His new country image is crap, I seem to remember him doing hip-hop in the 80's not the mention his break dancing.

If you want a good metal band that hasn't changed, try hatebreed, I haven't heard much by them but from what I have heard the message is clear and the music is good. For the more hardcore types I suggest Cannibal Corpse, nuff said.

My impression of Slipknot:

"Hey, let's put on stupid looking masks and then scream into microphones and smash alot of stuff together and call it music!"

Other than them, I would agree with the general concensus in the metal department (though i'm not an actual metalhead myself).

Cannibal Corpse was great in their time. Now, who knows. Slipknot, well look at it this way, they claim that they don't care what people think about how they look, yet they hide behind masks. Their songs are COMPLAINING about how everyone is always COMPLAINING and THOSE kind of people should die. They hate people cuz society doesn't have a sense of individualism like they do, meanwhile they parade around in orange jumpsuits, all looking very much the same, except for those masks that they hide behind. They have useless members in their band to "hold up appearances" but I thought appearance doesn't matter?

I'm glad that they're putting out their LAST album soon, and that Stone Sour is going to be Discontinued in the future, not to mention that the Murder Dolls should be shot. All Slipknot members should just stop attempting to think and make music.

Dream Theatre takes A LOT of getting used to, though I'll admit in a heartbeat that they are all talented and Petrucci is a seriously awesome guitarist. Just the length...and I'm not a very big proggressive metal fan.

IRON EFFIN MAIDEN. those guys are by far some of the most talented musicians in the metal industry. No dispute is allowed, Maiden is just all out intense.

Well, first I must mention my very favourite band, Rush! These guys have been going for 30 years, and haven't become complacent or stopped evolving. Every one of their seventeen studio albums sounds different from each other one. Their 2002 album, Vapor Trails, is their heaviest record yet, and they're fifty years old!

A lot of people put them down because of their vocalist's unusual voice, but I wish that people could look past that. They have (in my opinion) the greatest drummer in rock, bar none, and one of the best bassists. Their guitarist is no slouch either, though he tends to sometimes be overshadowed by the other two (especially Peart, the drummer).

They've recently released a live DVD, Rush in Rio, recorded last year on the final night of their Vapor Trails tour. The nearly three hour concert rocks from start to finish, and I recommend it to everyone!

**

Dream Theater has already been mentioned, but I'd like to add my voice to those encouraging everyone to check this band out. They can be a bit hard to handle sometimes--you have to be in a particular mood to listen to them, I find--but they certainly are a fantastic prog metal band. Yes, some of their songs are long, but they never feel stretched for length; their long tracks remain energetic and creative all the way through.

**

This is a bit of a departure for this topic, but I'd also recommend the music of Loreena McKennitt. She is a wonderful songwriter with a stunningly beautiful voice. Her music is an eclectic blend of countless influences from all over the world, from traditional folk to new age, from aboriginal music to celtic. She's often compared to Enya, but her music is much more rich and creative. It probably won't appeal to many hardcore fans of heavy metal, but I encourage anyone with an open mind to check her out.

I wonder why no one mentions -Metallica-.  unsure.gif

...Because new implies that the band is LESS than 20 years old.

i4cant really say i like many newabands, particularly metal bands, i think metals gone to hell, but the few bands i actually like out of the past 10 years (or so) are:

Rage against the machine
Black label society
Pride and glory
The dropkickamurphys
Foo fighters
Sick4of it all

im not too wel} informed on the christian rock1scene like DP is, because i dont hear a whole lot of iteout here. on the reverse side of the coin, i cant put up with people who deitize satan or even so much as bring him up in more than three songs. just doesnt work for me i guess.

if youll go for some older music, check these out (even though you probably have already)

first off, i want to wholeheartedly agree that metallica is a truly excellentaband and set the standard for metal bands from 1983 onward

other great older bands:

the who, iron maiden, black subbath/ozzy osbourne, ac/dc, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, george thurogood (tye blackest white guy around), aerosmith, zeppelin (of course), thin lizzy, i enjoy somedno doubt, diamondhead is a veryeunderappreciated metal band, eric clapton, and bob dylan.

now if you wanna look at wherearock and roll all started, i got two very important names for you, as far as bluesmen go:

BB king (THE name in blues mus}cians)
Albert king (probably the best blues guitarist ever, no relat}on to BB)

finally, i really dont much care for slipkot either, but do we have to bash one mans opinion? to each his own, if everyone said their mind about everybody elses music here, and im more than positive that includes mine, there would be some very insulted peop}e and they would know how macD probablyefeels. thats why its such a pain in the ass to talk about musicqwith other people, its like politics, theres always a fight.
