Since the previous topic got shut down before we could hear the answer, I'll ask the question in this topic instead: How do we kill the WOB Guardian?

C/P'ed from a PM message:
Remember how I said I won the battle, but never said anything about killing it? That pretty much sums up what this method is all about: Muddle/Smoke Bomb Take at least two members into battle and make sure one of them is vulnerable to Muddle status. Cast Muddle on that character, and while the spell is being cast, give the soon-to-be-confused character an order to use Smoke Bomb. Muddled status will not change what that character is about to do, but will change who the target(s) is/are, so that they end up throwing the Smoke Bomb at Guardian instead of the party. That results in Guardian "running away", and in doing so, you win the battle. Guardian has nothing to win anyway, so you wouldn't see anything different by actually killing it over this method. This will work against any enemy so long as no living monster has the Can't Run property set (otherwise it won't get rid of anyone). While you don't get anything in the way of exp, GP, etc., you do get Magic Points anyway because they're part of the formation data, not the monster data, so this would be a good way to get Magic Points while you can't visit the Veldt for something like, say, a low level game. Beware though; monsters can counter Smoke Bomb with their final attacks, which means while this would work against something like Intangir, Snare is still a better alternative because he'll still use Meteo on whoever threw the bomb. But after you do that, do you get to go past the Guardian? Like, do you get to go into Vector or into the imperial palace, for example?

Nope. Can't get past WOB Guardian even if you beat him.

As for muddling a character to use Smoke Bomb on the Guardian, can't you just tell that character to throw the bomb at the Guardian? Or does that not work, and if it doesn't, how so?

Two characters? *Heaves a sigh* My hopes are once again dashed of receiving General Leo through usage of radical fighting. The most I could do with Leo to the Guardian when I tried just about everything was heal him by giving it a normal healing item or Remedy (heals Guardian by 8,250 HP, I believe). Of course healing a non-undead enemy doesn't really make any sense, but it was worth a shot.

What is the algorithm for the WoB Guardian? It's one thing to say it has extraordinary defense, but even if I use a defense-ignoring attack it still fails. (Maybe I should try equipping the AtmaWeapon onto Leo the next time I play the game?) I've always wondered how the damage always comes out to 0--does it do something like an override that automatically makes the damage=0?

Unless you're planning on using a Game Genie, you won't be able to change Leo's equipment. Heck, if you could, I'd steal that offering he's equipped with, and probably his Aegis Shield and his Crystal sword, too.

Quote (Mikey @ 9th November 2003 12:35) Sure, but he's got WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much HP. And it might well crash the game if you enter behind the Guardian, since as I said, it's plot-necessary. Maybe it wouldn't, though. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

But if you remove the code, and manage to defeat him (with death animition and all that), don't you think the game would go back to the screen before you encounter him (meaning he's there again although you defeated him, since the game doesn't understand you have)?

Yeah, there's no code to remove the Guardian after battle under any circumstances. The only way to get past it is with a walk through walls code.
