Just curious, what are everyone's plans for Halloween, and what are you dressing up as if your dressing up at all? Does Halloween mean anything to you, or is it just another excuse for those kids down the block to raid your home.
This year, like every year (despite my age factor) I'm going trick or treating. It's something I'll never grow out of. Then going to friends house to watch horror movies until the sun comes up.I'm dressing up as "The Crow". I made the costume from a bunch of clothes I had lyring around, leather pants, leather trench coat, ripped up long sleeve black shirt. I got a actual lifesized crow that has tiny hooks on it's feet, so it'll stay on my shoulder. With my long hair and some face paint, viola, Brandon Lee, back from the dead. Incase you don't know, Halloween is my favorite holiday. Costumes, free candy, horror movie marathons, everyone going out and having a good time....what more could you ask for.....besides more free candy that is. So what about everyone else? -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

Well, since I don't have a midterm on Halloween this year I can actually go out. I don't know of any parties yet, but I bet whatever one I end up at will be fun.

Sadly, I feel too old to go trick or treating. I haven't done it in a number of years, actually. I have to resort to stealing candy from my brother.
As tradition dictates, I'll probably spend halloween night watching The Rocky Horror Picture Show and performing along to it in the privacy of my bedroom. Good times! -------------------- Always hopeful, yet discontent; he knows changes aren't permanent -- But change is! |

Of course, I'm not a fan of partying and vandalizing in general. Really? You seem like such a party guy. Last year's Halloween for me was rather full of debauchery - 'twas a drunken affair that I attended that ended up getting me stripped to the waist by a collection of girls. I wasn't complaining too loudly, of course. This year is going to be more relaxed. I am going to my buddy's party tomorrow night, OctHORTBERGfest; it's a hogroast potluck where everyone just chills out outside and has a few drinks and some pig. I don't think we're even going to dress up this year; Angie and I wanted to go as Neo and Trinity, but we can't really afford the costumes, especially not for just one party. Come Halloween night, we'll probably go check out the bars to see what the moron drunks are up to - but I'd bet that we'll probably call it a pretty early night and rent the original Chainsaw Massacre or something like that just for the mood. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

Stupid conference meet is November 1st this year, so I will spend my Halloween in a hotel in the good ol' Youngstown, Ohio, waiting for the last big race of my cross-country career to come. If it was a normal year, I would spend it with my roommates on the couch with about 7 bags of the kind of candy you normally buy for the occasion, watching a movie or two.

It appears that there are only two posts in this thread that mention drinking at all, mine and Ela's. I don't think Ela was talking about how cool he was when he drinks, so I'm pretty sure Goz was talking about me. If that is the case, he needs to do some growing up of his own and not think that anyone who talks about having a good time while inebriated is bragging about how cool they are. I don't think I'll be doing much of anything, though I'd like to be able to carve a pumpkin. That was always my favourite part of Halloween; carving a pumpkin, then saving the seeds to be toasted, salted, and eaten.
One Halloween, I think it was in my third year of University, me and a dozen of my friends all lived within a few blocks of each other, so we did a Halloween block crawl. Because we were "too old" to trick or treat, we'd dress up and go to each other's houses in groups, and have treats and a drink (not because we were trying to be cool, Goz. Not everyone who mentions alcohol is a frat boy/sorority girl trying to be cool.), then move on to the next house. It was a great night. I think I might make a cake pumpkin this year. Decorate it in orange and black icing and such. -------------------- I had an old signature. Now I've changed it. |

Goz, lighten up dude. I asked what people are doing on Halloween, they say drinking. We're a freakin message board community, no one is proving anything to anyone.
As for all that "it's pagan and trash", your opinon guys. I love halloween, and I enjoy the chance to dress up and get free candy. So what if it started off as a way of warding off evil spirits by trapping them inside the pumpkins? There's nothing wrong with something pagan to me, considering that more things than most people realize, have stemmed from old pagan beliefs. I love the pumpkin carving part. This year, I'm carving out the entire cast of "The Nightmare Before Christmas". I'm not too big on the seeds though... -------------------- Okay, but there was a goat! |

Well, I'm not an american, so perhaps I shouldn't say anything about this and blah blah (You know how some people act)...
But I don't enjoy Halloween. I have always hated to dress up in silly costumes. And I dislike pumpkins too. Plus, thanks to all the "trick-or-treat", I have to go out and buy tons of candy for all the children, to avoid being called "the mean guy in the neighbourhood". I enjoy giving out candy to the little kids that really enjoy Halloween, the ones that dress up and have that childish enthusiasm that they have about everything. It was those kids that made me enjoy the holiday for the years I felt too old to go trick-or-treating. A few years ago, I dressed up as the Grim Reaper and just stood at the front of my house for a couple of hours, not moving a muscle until the kids (who thought I was just a statue) got close and screamed when I started to move.
Then, there's the kids that I think should NOT be allowed outdoors during that night. Most people know what I'm talking about, the groups of kids that are in middle school or high school that travel in packs with crates of eggs, just ready to egg people's houses and slash tires. They totally ruin the fun for everyone. Here's whats happened to my house in the last 3-4 years: All four tires of my parents van were slashed when the car was in our back yard. Our garage was full so we couldn't put the car away, but we put it in the back where it's fenced off, but the kids went out of their way to slash them. Eggs, eggs, and more eggs. My house has 57 windows and four doors (it's almost a mansion), and the amount of egg that we find on the windows on our house the next morning every year are disgusting. Then there's the time that I was sitting at my computer during one halloween night, which is right in front of a window, and the only light I had on was the lamp light right next to me (which contrasts the darkness outside, making it impossible to see anything outside the window in the dark). Well anyways I was playin on the computer and suddenly the window crashes as a rock is thrown into the room, and the sharp part of the rock slices my arm, and if it werent for the lamp, it would've come close to hitting me in the face. Also, during one of the halloween's, I made the mistake of attempting to clean off some of the egg on our windows during the night. While I was outside cleaning off some of the front windows, a guy driving by in a car throws a wine bottle that smashes at my feet, drenching my legs in what was still left in the wine bottle. It's probably very different in most other areas, but at my home it has made me loathe the day Halloween comes. But as for what I'm gonna do this year, I've got a great Elvis Presley costume that I'm gonna wear to a Halloween party at the frat house. wow evileye, i feel for you man, everybody likes to pick on the big house on the block....
me and my mom used to like to carve pumpkins the whole night before halloween, but it looks like we wont be doing that together anymore... i guess this year im gonna sit with my drummer and watch slasher movies from the 80s, the golden age of storyless horror flicks. probably gonna get some oldschool nintendo going on too, i just got some new additions to my rather large collection of NES games. no little kids live in my neighborhood whatsoever, so im probably gonna be the one eating all the candy in the bowl by the door. -------------------- You watch the world exploding every single night Dancing in the sun, a newborn in the light Say goodbye to gravity and say goodbye to death Hello to eternity and live for every breath Your time will come... |

King Mog, I want a picture.
![]() I am working at the Haunted House that goes up every year near the beach. The theme this year is "The Temple of the Dead", and it's been running every weekend all month. This week, it runs every night, up until November 1st. It's a really really fun job, but man, it's tiring. This past Saturday was our busiest night yet. If any of you people live in or near Santa Cruz, come on over! My boyfriend is working there too, and we have this great combination scare. He's dressed as a ghoul, an eater of the dead, and when a group of people comes through, he either sneaks up behind them, or insinuates himself into the group and freaks them out because they never see him coming. Then he leads them into my area and talks to them, telling them to take a moment to relax and take in the sights. Now, these sights consist of a huge Ent-like creature made of driftwood, lit from below by red and green lights, and me. I'm sitting next to the Ent, and my costume consists of a backpack frame draped in black cloth with big black batwings coming out of the back, and a long, snake-like neck with a skull on the end coming out of the top, which I can manipulate. The black cloth covers my body, so it looks like there's nobody inside...and of course, there is. ![]() If I wasn't doing the Haunted House, I'd be either going trick-or-treating or spending time with my friends or my boyfriend. I'm 20 years old, and I don't think it's possible to be too old to trick-or-treat. I'm a terminal sweet tooth, so any excuse to eat candy is okay in my book; the fact that you get to dress up and ask total strangers for it is even better. ![]() |

Wai ~ everyone's Halloween plans sound really neat :D As for us... there's a campus party that most of my friends are planning to attend. My one friend is going to be a Naughty Nurse, complete with fishnet tights (stop drooling), another is going to be a Vampy Vampire, and another is going to be Little Red Riding Ho(od). And another friend, who has a rather less filthy mind, is going to be an M&M. So far I haven't found a costume or anything that could pass as a costume, so *shrug* I might not go. Which is too bad, since the party is always a lot of fun, but at this point I don't much feel like going out. That may change if I find something fantastic to wear by Friday..heh heh.

Lessee.... Today I think my friends and I will be carving pumpkins for tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll be wearing my costume all day probably because our school lets seniors dress up on Hallowe'en. Of course, I wasn't a senior this year, but they don't know that. Maybe they don't I don't know, I don't care. ^.^
