I would be really scared when someone steal my ID.
So I have some comment an a question

1. When someone you know suddenly act strange, but in offending way (e.g. like if Supermoogle stop talking about FF serious and starts to cussing and insulting CoN) <hey it's only an example, don't eat me supermoogle> would you ban him instantly, or erase his account first, e-mail him and see what's going on? (This is not only for hosts, PRETEND you were)

2. To avoid this, best you can do is following.
Never tell your password even you trust someone truely (unless they are like your friends or related people)
While you are on public computer...
For CoN when you log on, it will ask you "Remember my log in details?"
then say no.
If you accidently said Yes or logged in sites like Yahoo, MAKE sure you LOG OUT when you are done. If you don't, other people who opened Yahoo mail, will automatically be able to see your mail.

Well yahoo mail remembers your username, but you have to retype your password every time. With Yahoo Messenger though, this isn't true, as with others.

To answer your question, I'd think something was up right away if SM started dissing the site or whatever. If I were a head honcho, I'd try to get in contact with SM before I did any account modifying.

My attitude is, if you're stupid enough to let someone get hold of your details, you deserve all the bans that are coming your way.  Of course, if you're done over by a malicious hacker it's a different story.  But if you come back acting as yourself again, there's nothing to stop us from removing any bans, is there?

The fact is, a forum or IRC channel has to be kept in order.  That means banning people who post a lot of trash, regardless of whose name they use to do it.

It's common sense to never, ever, ever leave any of your details on a public computer, unless you can be sure you're leaving them in a secured file/directory.  Check in those messengers, and such: a bad program remembers your password by default without asking; a worse one gives you no option to change that.  There should always be a way to make a program "forget" passwords.  If you're living with some pranksters, also, it's a good idea to lock your computer (if you have Windows 2000/XP) when you're not using it.

And while I remember, one last tip from me.  STOP USING RUBBISH PASSWORDS.  The number of passwords I see that are too short, or worse and more common, easily personally identifiable, is just unbelievable.  Don't use your own username as the password, PLEASE.  Don't use the name of a girlfriend, or pet, or your favourite game, or anything like that, and if you must do so, encode it partially - put some strange punctuation in it, such as dots or hyphens (don't use anything too strange, as you may have character set or reserved character issues), try reversing it perhaps or jumbling it, and using some (but not all) "k3\/\/l t3Xt".  It's also good practice to try and make your password at least eight characters long.

Basically... don't give anyone an easy ride.

Tiddles' response embarrasses anything I could say, but as I am more or less the last word on bans/account deletions, I can say this. If a nick starts screwing around in here, I generally do not hesitate to ban. Like Tiddles said, a ban can be reversed.

Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN?

Usually, I never tell my password, my e-mail address is one thing, but the password to something I don't care, no one gets it. If someone was really acting screwy, and extremely out of the person they seem to usually be, then I would probably suspect something, wouldn't you?

I remember once, a certain WEBMASTER, went into my settings and changed my sig to something like "I like to say how evil I am and talk nonsense when really I'm just an idiot." or something like that, my memory is crap. I wonder if that webmaster remembers that incident and all the spam that followed  

Anyway point being, who would wanna hack into some guy's message board account unless he was some desprate fool who despratly wanted into the forums only to post non sense. Why did the name Wolfpac suddenly spring to my mind.
