I love FF6. It is one of 3 games that I never get sick of playing, my 3 favorites you might say. I have played this game dozens of times and discovered just about every bit of information that exists.
Are you a master of FF6 knowledge? Lets find out. Besides the spell Drain, name 3 ways that a player character can drain HP from an enemy. I know of 39 ways. This post has been edited by Detah on 27th October 2003 21:40 |

One word: Rages. Gau has several Rages that allow him to use the Lifeshaver ability; among these are the Mane Ball, the Psycho, and the Rogenoia (these are the names in my version of the game, obviously). There's also a Rage gained from the Red Fang that casts the Drain spell, but I figure that doesn't count.

One way is Cyan's slash skill. Another is the drainer, the sword you find on the floating continent can be equiped or used as a throw item. Last you can use Gau's rage skill which is lifeshaver which you get from the ing monster you meet in the cave before the esper gate or have Relm sketch it. I also guess you could cast regen on a undead creature but you wouldn't get any HP back.

Let's see...
1) Drain vs. self while undead (counts since you're not the one casting it, I'm assuming anyway, but who cares, I'll make up for it) 2) LifeShaver under Rage 3) LifeShaver under Sketch 4) LifeShaver under Control 5) LifeShaver under Rage via Mimic 6) LifeShaver under Sketch via Mimic 7) LifeShaver vs. self while undead 8) LifeShaver vs. self if self absorbs Earth-elemental damage 9) Empowerer under SwdTech 10) Empowerer under SwdTech via Mimic 11) Raid under Rage 12) Raid under Sketch 13) Raid under Control 14) Raid under Rage via Mimic 15) Raid under Sketch via Mimic 16) Raid vs. self while undead 17) Drainer under Fight 18) Drainer w/ Offering under Fight 19) Drainer x2 w/ Genji Glove under Fight 20) Drainer x2 w/ Genji Glove/Offering under Fight 21) Drainer under Jump 22) Drainer w/ Dragon Horn under Jump 23) Drainer under Jump via Palidor equipped summon 24) Drainer w/ Dragon Horn under Jump via Palidor equipped summon 25) Drainer under Jump via Palidor under 3-BAR 26) Drainer w/ Dragon Horn under Jump via Palidor under 3-BAR 27) Drainer under Fight via Mimic 28) Drainer w/ Offering under Fight via Mimic 29) Drainer x2 w/ Genji Glove under Fight via Mimic 30) Drainer x2 w/ Genji Glove/Offering under Fight via Mimic 31) Drainer under Jump via Mimic 32) Drainer w/ Dragon Horn under Jump via Mimic 33) Drainer under Jump via Palidor equipped summon via Mimic 34) Drainer w/ Dragon Horn under Jump via Palidor equipped summon via Mimic 35) Drainer under Jump via Palidor under 3-BAR via Mimic 36) Drainer w/ Dragon Horn under Jump via Palidor under 3-BAR via Mimic 37) Drainer under Rage 38) Drainer w/ Offering under Rage 39) Drainer x2 w/ Genji Glove under Rage 40) Drainer x2 w/ Genji Glove/Offering under Rage 41) Drainer under Jump w/ Rage 42) Drainer w/ Dragon Horn under Jump w/ Rage 43) Drainer under Jump via Palidor equipped summon w/ Rage status 44) Drainer w/ Dragon Horn under Jump via Palidor equipped summon w/ Rage status 45) Drainer under Jump via Palidor under 3-BAR w/ Rage status 46) Drainer w/ Dragon Horn under Jump via Palidor under 3-BAR w/ Rage status And I could have gone on with all the different monsters to Rage, Sketch, and Control (because all that would have taken was a flip through of my monster stats guide), but I just went with different Drainer setups and command uses instead. Some of those probably shouldn't count, but this was more of a parody of that number 39 than a serious answer. That also means I might have screwed up somewhere, but you get the point by now. There's only four HP-draining attacks and one HP-draining weapon in the game; Drain, Empowerer, LifeShaver, Raid, and Drainer. There are many different ways to use each, under different commands, multiple hits, 2X attacks, Jump, etc. Point is, there are only five ways to do it and a lot of variations. Claiming 39 ways to drain HP is pretty stupid *unless* you meant damage, in which case you just made a wording error that did not serve your entrance onto the board well at all. The reason I say stupid is because if you know there's only five ways to do it, when you claim 39, someone is going to catch you on the fact that 34 of those are merely variations on the first five. Posting anyway confirms that you either don't care about that or you don't think very highly of the board you're posting to. BTW, last I checked, this site already has trivia. But who cares, multiple choice isn't that fun unless it's for something important like school or college. Anyone got another query? ![]() -------------------- |

There are indeed more than 39 ways. I did not count the Mimic nor Palador versions of the Drainer sword attack, but they are quite clever. And you forgot the Red Feast, Dance Daze, Red Dance, Drainbeak and Doomsickle attacks.
The complete list is as follows. Empowerer Swordtech Drainer sword R=Rage, S=Sketch, C=Control R/S/C Crusher Lifeshaver C Figaliz R/S/C Ing Lifeshaver R/S/C Mandrake Raid R/S/C Misfit Lifeshaver R/S/C Psychot Lifeshaver R/S/C Tumbleweed Lifeshaver Also have any of the following monsters (or those above) cast their drain spell on you while you are Undead Brontaur Lifeshaver Dirt Dragon Lifeshaver Karkass Lifeshaver Crawler Raid Specter Raid Inferno Red Feast Number 128 Red Feast Overmind Daze Dance Power Demon Daze Dance Slam Dancer Daze Dance Soul Dancer Red Dance Sprinter Drainbeak ToeCutter Doomsickle Count: 39. I guess MasterZed got 39, albeit in a round about sort of way. You are up MZ. PS. It is not polite to throw around accusations about someones intelligence without knowing all the facts. Very rude and unwise. Furthermore, I do think very highly of this board and I have been around forever. PSS. The question was precisely worded. EDIT: Opps. I just realized. One cannot acquire the Undead status during the Number 128 battle, so this one is not possible at that point in the game. This post has been edited by Detah on 28th October 2003 14:12 |

King Mog - Genji Glove/Offering could do it since we're only talking about one turn, and if you had kept track of and setup the Slot RNG beforehand, you could have Setzer walk into the battle and immediately blast Kefka with Joker Doom as well. Those two aren't the end of it either.
Detah - I was gonna retort, but screw it, my previous reply got erased and I have other things to do than to write, preview, write, preview, start from scratch, etc. like I usually do. The only thing I'll say is that I forgot enemy drain specials so you did catch me there. However, that's why even the best scholar has a library. To that regard, Drainbeak is an MP-draining attack, Over-Mind uses Wild Touch, not Daze Dance, and SlamDancer's Daze Dance is a Sleep-inducing attack. With that in mind, it might be best if you checked the list again. I don't memorize all this crap (though my list came solely from memory, which is a good reason why I missed enemy specials), I just have the resources to make up for anything my worthless brain happens to lack. ![]() If I have the next query, then I'll post two; one easy, one hard. Of course, it's only hard if you don't keep up with my discoveries. ![]() Easy: Dark Force has a certain command on which he can cast Quasar. However, he may never get to cast it because of something on the turn it takes prior. What is it I'm referring to? Hint - I'm not referring to player activities. Hard: Tell me how to win against the WOB Guardian. Hint - The only time you absolutely cannot win is with Leo. Specifics - All I want is Guardian gone, the victory poses, and the fanfare music. Like I said, the hard one alone might have been a topic killer, but I do want to see if anyone can get the hard question (especially if they didn't read about this on G'FAQs). -------------------- |

And yes, it is possible to win that battle. I said how last month or so on the G'FAQs boards, but didn't say a word here. Doesn't matter now unless someone wants to take a shot at it, so you have the next query. Edit At least, I don't think I did. I hope I didn't anyway, but I'm liable to forget when I said something and where. This post has been edited by Master ZED on 28th October 2003 20:35 -------------------- |

Lets see. use 'Magicite' and get Odin's Atom Edge or Raiden's True Edge. My notes show that Guardian 1 is immune to DEATH so I doubt thats it, but its all that fits.

Since it can not be done with Leo, I'm gonna take a guess and say either with the Joker Doom trick (which I believe you explained somewhere) or through the Vanish + Doom/X-Zone (though I don't recall X-Zone being available except in WoR) trick. Since this is a guess, I'm gonna go ahead and let ZED tell me if I'm right instead of going ahead and asking another question. |

I tried X-zone and doom with vanish the first time I played but I don't remember it working, but that was a while back and my memory is foggy. But if I had to guess it might be one of Mog's dances or a rage.

No one's got it. I'll clarify a couple things though;
Detah - Neither can be summoned through Magicite or 3-BAR. They are, in fact, the only two Espers that can't be summoned randomly. Spoony Bard - Yes, I may have said Joker Doom worked at one time, I know I said it on G'FAQs, and it would kill Guardian, but it's impossible to actually get three 7's against the WOB Guardian. There's a bit in the formation data that prevents you from completing the combo no matter what. There are other battles like this too, all covered in the Slot guide at my site. And before anyone tries a Vanish/whatever technique answer again, Guardian is invulnerable to Clear status, so no Vanish/whatever technique will work on it. -------------------- |

First off, never ask a trivia question you don't know the answer to. If you don't know, then how can we answer? You're the person who tells us whether we got it right or wrong, you have to know the answer if you're going to ask the question.
And none of the SwdTechs rely on Sniper Sight for anything, as long as Cyan has the right weapon equipped, he can use a SwdTech maneuver at any time. Are you asking if Sniper Sight makes it so there's no charge time or something? Well, I don't care what the question is for, Sniper Sight has nothing to do with SwdTech.
