Eh, bad post because I don't remember almost any of the FMV's I've seen. Oh well, have fun.

other: the attack on Alexandria in FF9. That was probably one of the coolest set of CG's I've seen yet.

I had to go with Sephiroth and Aeris. I even knew it was coming, and it was still sad with the apparent loss of hope.

Agh, this was so hard to choose!
In the end, it came down to Final Fantasy VII vs. Final Fantasy X. The FFX FMVs were truly remarkable, the foremost of which being the opening scene in Zanarkand and the "Red Carpet" scene, where your party is sliding down the wires to rescue Yuna. But I just had to vote for Sephiroth killing Aeris, just because it was so fun to watch that whiny, incompetent brat mercilessly impaled on Sephiroth's deadly blade. Truly one of the high points of the game, in my opinion. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. Sephiroth. There were flames all around him, and he just turns around and walks right into them. How can you get more bad ass than that? Sephiroth was by far the greatest enemy in any game(that I've played anyways).

I only saw Sephiroth kill Aeris ONCE, and it was really awesome looking. Though I've beaten the game 3 times. I think I should play through again... Argh, that pissed me off, too, I liked her Limit Breaks.

FFIX has consistently had the highest quality FMV's. Even better than X. The thing is, FFX's have been few and far between, moreso than even VII because they use the realtime graphics for most scenes. It's FMV's have also been less epic than IX's (When first entering Lindblum, I was blown away). I just think they're better overall in quantity and quality.

I liked FF8's FMVs. My favorite was the Dollet Landing, that simply ruled. And the ending... wow. There were tons of them, too, so that's good.

Yes, I'm somewhat notorious for my unrelenting, everlasting distaste for Aeris. I guess it could be seen as humorous. But if you're mocking me, that's just cruel. ![]() I actually had a hard time voting for FFVII overall, just because the ending FMV was a big disappointment (particularly in comparison with the others). Another honorable mention would have to go to FFVIII, which had the best FMV action sequences. They really pushed the graphics to the limit in that one. -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. I loved the final scene in FF9, with Zidane running through the forest, and the matrix-style jump at the end. I loved the first running through the forest scene, too.

I love the FF6 opening, because it's exactly how I imagioned that scene would be.
FF7 made good use of fmv. Almost all the FMV were simply used to move the camera around(best one: when you first see Highwind). As compared to FF10, in which they seemed to be there just for the heck of it. pound for pound, FF9's were the best. good atention to detail, looked kick ass, fitted with the story. and the fact that they were EVERYWHERE. FF8's opening SUCKED, good for before the title screen maybe, but not for the begining of the game. (the one where Zell choked on hot dogs owns though ![]() As Ive said before FF10 could have been done entirely without FMV, and IMO should have. my two cents -------------------- "Number One, I order you to go take a number two." |

I must wholeheartedly disagree. Although it is quite true that the graphical content of the in-game cutscenes were absolutely outstanding, I don't think you could easily justify ripping out some of the equally (if not more) excellent FMVs from Final Fantasy X. Two of the most unforgettable moments of the game were created via FMV, and some of the effects, graphics, and overall motion just couldn't have been done without it (particularly in "Red Carpet"). -------------------- "I always have a quotation for everything - it saves original thinking." ~Dorothy L. I don't see any reason for removing all the FMVs from FFX...a lot of the scenes, as SM posted, really couldn't have been done without the FMV capabilities, and it's not as if space was an issue on the DVD-ROM. Â It was still one disc even with fifty FMVs (I think there were fifty movie spheres, at least. Â That doesn't include the ending, either).

Obviously spoilers under the game title...
I've never seen the FF4 FMVs. Â Although the FF6 FMVs are really cool, especially for a game that you've been imagining what it would look like for years, but as it was a re-make, and there not being very many, it can't take best. FF7's differed in presentation and quality. Â As said, it was used effectively. Â Choice of which were used was done quite well, though I would probably add a couple and take out a couple, but oh well. FF8's were all high quality, but not all were necessarily good choices to spend time making. Â For one, instead of making that dumb mini-game, let us look at the battlefield, as that is one of the best FMV's -ever-. Â The opening battle was nice, as was the landing, as was the attack on the garden. Â I liked the fact that everyone got an intro FMV, that's just cool to get that when you meet them. Â The final FMV is one of the best ever, simply hilarious. FF9's had, IMHO, the best design and choice of FMV's in general. Â All of the eidolon FMVs were well done, especially the two featuring Bahamut. Â The final scene of the forest, as well as the the Black Waltz chace were nice. Â Anyway, the one shot where Bahamut bowls down those houses gets my vote for best. Â =) FFX's were up and down. Â Some were very good, but others lacked substance. Â The movie sphere thing allows me to remember them more easily. Â Anyway, the first video is excellent, so is the attack on Kilika, Â as is the battle on the shore, the sending and more or less the spring scene. Â So is Auron's opening and the red carpet. Â However, I really didn't need so many Sin FMVs at the end. Â One would have sufficed, and then maybe added something else, like Evrai or something, or more in Zanarkand. |

I was so shocked when Sephiroth killed Aeris. Even though I saw it coming, I thought it was way too early in the game. Plus, when I saw it, I had a flashback of when FF7 was first previewed on TV. The announcer on the commercial said "...asn a love that can never be..." or something like that, and the commercial showed Aeris in the lake with Cloud holding her.

Awww... poor Aeris...
I couldn't go with just a single FMV (if it was, it would probably be the Weapons taking off in FF7), but I'd go with Weapon attack on Junon. Heh heh, artillery and the ineffectual army, coupled with high-tension music, a rather involving storyline at that point. Wow, those FMVs (4 in total, i think) were just plain stimulating. |
