I'm an Editor for my school paper, and my page is doing a story about internet piracy. I thought that you guys might be able to help me out with finding info about internet file sharing and bootlegging, or share a story about how it's awesome, or about how it got you in trouble (that includes viruses and trojans).

Here:
This Should Be Helpful I did a paper on this as well not too long ago actually. -------------------- The clouds ran away, opened up the sky And one by one I watched every constellation die And there I was frozen, standing in my backyard Face to face, eye to eye, staring at the last star I should've known, walked all the way home To find that she wasn't here, I'm still all alone -Atmosphere "Always Coming Back Home to You" |

There's a slight less amount of stress put on you when you share say, illegal music, now, because some court ruled the RIAA just can't get owners of IPs from ISPs without warrants for each person they want. You may want to throw that in your paper, but please look it up to be sure I got it all right.

I'll easily admit I do some illegal filesharing. However, I'll say I don't horde thousands of mp3s like some people do. Most of my MP3s are ripped from CDs I personally own, and those CDs are hard to find since they're import. I let people download from me at their own discretion. If I download an MP3 and I like it and the stuff in the same album a lot, I buy it, if I can. A lot of the times the things I'm looking for simply aren't available at all.
On videos and movies, I download to watch and enjoy. If I seriously enjoy it, I'll plan on buying it if I run across it. Otherwise, I tend to forget about it. On software, I download and use indiscrimately if the software would be extremely useful to me as well as being ludicrously out of my budget. If it's a game, I download to playtest it. If I really like it, I'll definitely buy it if the price is reasonable (I ain't hefting out $40 for a $50 game that's been around for a year and a half). If I don't... I don't just don't play it! I delete it off my hard drive and give my constructive opinion about the game to other people. To sum it up, it's all about sharing the love, trying stuff, and rebelling against things that are grossly overpriced. This post has been edited by RoyalKnight on 12th January 2004 15:42 |
