The title pretty much said it all, but I'm gonna precise anyway : which movie really scared you when you watched it?
The scariest movie I ever saw was a 1997 science-fiction movie, called "Event Horizon", with Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburn. I went to see it on theater with some of my best friends (really big fellows, btw), and we got out with pearl white faces. This movie really pinned us to our chairs, one of my friends even admitted that at one time he gazed away from the screen, to avoid seeing what was happening...
Having bought the DVD some years ago, I admit it's less scary on TV, but it still retains some frightening power.
Well, it's your turn now...

i cant really think of a movie that really FRIGHTENED me, but i can say that there was one time when i was at my friends house and i was a little up in the clouds, if you dig what im saying, and he popped in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and some of the stuff in that movie was like freaking me out. the hitch hiker being all freaky like made me hide under a pillow and when leatherface put the girl up on the meat hook, i was bugging out. i watched it the next day with my drummer when i was in a straight frame of mind, and i just couldnt understand what it was about that movie that got under my skin when i was high. i guess it was all the screaming.

The only thing to make me jump was the part in Signs when the alien stuck his hand under the pantry door, reaching for Mel. I saw it coming, and it still made me jump. user posted image

there isn't a movie that has necessarily "scared" me. There are movies that have, however, freaked me out. "Signs" freaked me out a little... "They" was a little weird.... "The Ring" was also a little creepy, but now it's just more of a thinker movie whenever I watch it. I was scared of "Chucky" when I saw it first, but that's because I was like 8 or something.

I will admit, there was one movie that completely horrified the life right out of me... and that movie was that Spice Girls movie, "Spice World".. I had nightmares for weeks.

I'm glad I turned off the TV when the commercials for that came on!

I agree with you, and the first time I saw it I was in your state. The main thing that freaked me out about that movie is that it is based on a true story. Even freakier, it occured about 20-30 min from where I live. The family had been in-breeding for generations and were all sorts of screwed up. That is why I consider Leatherface to be the scariest movie villain of all time.

wow i always knew it was based on a true story, but never heard much about it. the inbreeding really does explain a lot though with the way the people were. tell me, have you ever been to or near the house where it all took place?

Acutally the reason I know it is nearby is because a friend of mine lives within two miles of the house. I have not actually seen it with my own eyes, but a couple others have. Another little tidbit,

"Evil Dead" was pretty scary but movies don't really scare me. The only time I was really scared was when I saw the original "Friday the 13th" when I was like 6. I didn't watch a scary movie after that for years.

Movies don't scare me anymore, but when I was smaller, the movie "It" had me scared of clowns for months on end. The first time I was "A Nightmare On Elm Street" I was too scared to go to bed.

House Of A 1000 Corpses was one hell of a scary movie, I wasn't freaked out or anything, but I knew from watching it, that it would scare the pants off a lot of people.

Hey I've haven't been here for a while but.........

The movie that really freaked me out was when I was 4 years old i saw Ernest Scared Stupid and I had nightmares for months.

Other than that I saw the Shining and it was scary. Nothing now scares me but before i was the worst movie watcher there was.

I don't find many movies scary, but the occasional Outer Limits episode will scare the crap outta me. unsure.gif

A.I. - Artificial intelligence. It's an old movie and not supposed to be a scary genre, but just the idea of having "a robot who can feel" freaks me out. I hated stories like that. Not just the setting, but the flow of that story (like how some weird alient/machine dudes after 1000 remade his mom with her DNA blink.gif ) this movie's worst than a pinokio

The Shining, and the 1rst Texas Chainsaw Massacre were scary like you guys've said, and so was the 1rst Night of the Living Dead, but if you want a real scary one then see Jacob's Ladder. That movie will send you to the looney bin (but in a good way).

Yeah, those kinds of movies bother me too. Not really scare, just bother. It seems like our progressions of artificial intelligence technology are a step towards replacing humans altogether. Those movies are just a reminder.

Funny you should mention Jacob's Ladder : I haven't seen it myself, but I've been told it inspired a great deal of the atmosphere and the textures used for Silent Hill (wich remain in my mind as the scariest game ever).
Since you saw it, can you tell me what you think of this thought?

The Ring got me the first time. It wasn't that I was actually scared, it was more that afterwards I kept turning around and expecting to see something.

The Ring scared me a lot because I was just expecting it to be the most awful movie ever, so I was terrified before I even turned the movie on. Heh. Signs was creepy until the last scene, which ruined the entire movie. The part that freaked me out the most, though, was the birthday video. The Haunted was lame but still freaked me out. I get scared pretty easily, but I love it.

Oh, and What Lies Beneath was really good just because so many parts were unexpected.

I will never look at a snowy t.v. the same way again thanks to the ring.
A movie that I really loved for scaring me to peices when I was younger was
Wishmaster (and now I own the trilogy, and let me tell you, all three are pretty damn scary)

I was wondering if anyone saw "Seven". That movie definatly freaked me out. Especially with the cop..oh man...

Seven was creepy, but not really all that scary for me. The only part I jumped at was the guy in the bed. Child's Play really freaked me out when it first came out. However I watch in now and laugh, it's a doll...just kick it.

and watch the part where the girl with the video camera goes off on her own. When she suddenly realizes she's not alone, turns around, and finds a creepy looking ghost staring right at her, and then rush at her with alarming speed, I almost wet my pants every time I watch it.

I'm normally not freaked out or scared of any part of any movie, but dayam, when I watched that 1 part totally alone in the dark, I felt I had to turn the lights on.

ET bugged the hell out of me when i was younger. So did Carry, and other child/pyshco/alien/goverment conspiracy movies. It was really disturbing. Especially after I first saw the movie "GingerSnaps". Sweet merciful moose that movie traumatized me towards girls and sex for a good long time.

there arnt many movies that can scare me. now horror movies are almost comedies to me. but back in the day i would say that the first nightmare on elm street was pretty scary and still bothers me today because if you die in a dream and see it before you wake up you do die in real life. but thats about the only one that still gets to me.

A little fact about night of the living dead. They were eating raw cuts of beef. The things actors will do.... I bet they all became vegetarians.

I know it's spam, just thought I'd mention it. Sorry. biggrin.gif

Ditto on the ET votes...but I watched IT when I was six (what was my mom thinking?) and it got to me..so did Michael Jackson's "Thriller". I dunno if it was the zombies that really scared me when I was young or if it was Michael Jackson... laugh.gif

On a more serious note I haven't seen a decent scary movie since It (it may have been the age factor, but I haven't seen "Signs" or "The Ring"..I'll have to check 'em out)

EDIT: EvilEye's post reminded me that House on Haunted Hill freaked me out when it first came out.
