Hi Everyone! Like many of the introduction posts before mine, I've been a long time lurker here, but never made an account. I've gotten more into forum culture in the past 5-ish years as I feel a bit alienated from modern social media, and I thought CoN would be a good site to add to the list. The straw that broke the camel's back to create an account was that I couldn't DM Rangers51 to buy a sticker without one! Even now, it says I can't send a message so...if you see this, please get in contact

I'm a fairly old school FF fan, though perhaps not as old as the rest of you guys. I started with FF VIII (hence the username) when I was 7 or 8 years old. Been hooked ever since. I've gone back and played most of the 2D games & I've played all the mainline 3D ones (7 onwards). It bugged me out for the longest time that this site doesn't have VIII up at the top, but instead skips right to IX I love IX & Tactics as well, so I'll let it slide!

Anyway I'll cut it here and join an active thread elsewhere. Thanks for reading.

I thought you'd appreciate a new CoN user above a social media message, haha! I'm trying to wean off social media when possible so I'm pretty stoked to have finally taken the plunge on a CoN account. Now I'm thinking back to all the times in the good old days when forum staff had to tell people that, no, they're not gonna make an FFVIII section/forum.

If only the internet were simpler and more innocent like in those days...well, aside from Climhazzard exploding someone's house for requesting Shaq Fu.

This makes me equal parts curious & scared to ask "why?"

Was the game not well-received by forum staff at the time? I've done some searching through old threads, but didn't see a clear answer. There are >25 years of posts to sift through!

The main reason is that they actually aim for pretty comprehensive coverage of each game that has a section on the site. Like, full walkthroughs, bestiaries, inventory lists, etc.. So it's a big, big job to add a new section.

And then only those games that have sections on the site have forums dedicated to them.

At the time, no one was really that interested in FF8. I vaguely seem to recall some grousing about doing a section for FF7, even, but that actually eventually became a thing. As well as a non-FF game, Chrono Trigger. And newer remake version content also got added to existing sections too.

At this point, though, I think the site doesn't get that much traffic so adding another section feels somewhat moot. Sadly, perhaps. The site does date from a time when there weren't as many resources available on the web with such comprehensive information. (Fandom wikis weren't a thing back then.)

(Correct me if I'm wrong, Rangers51 or anyone else.)
