I finally did it. I beat Final Fantasy 5.
It's crazy to think that over 20 years ago I fell in love with Secret of Mana, FF4, FF6 and Chrono Trigger. For years I had the chance to play FF5 and also tried a few times but I never got past the beginning... Somehow the characters and visuals were uninspiring. (Probably got spoiled by FF6) A few weeks ago I tried again... and today I finally beat Neo Exdeath. I have no idea why I waited so long but I'm kinda glad I saved this treat for myself. ![]() The job (and battle) system is just brilliant. I had so much fun trying out and combining abilities, equipment and magic. And some of the battles were actually challenging. I even had to change up my tactics in the final battle. (Whereas Kefka got mauled easily on the first try) Sure the story and characters are average but I didn't mind them too much. Maybe because I didn't have much expectations. It was also quite interesting to see how much stuff from FF5 were an inspiration for stuff FF6. And of course the job system in FF Tactics. I guess I still have to beat the superbosses, so I'm off to grind... ![]() |

The job system is really fantastic, and it's why FFV is my most-played non-MMO/mobile game. It still feels fresh even after playing the game countless times, especially with the constraints of the Fiesta. I'm so glad you decided to give the game a try and enjoyed it, because it really is a gem. -------------------- Watch me play games on Twitch! Actually just beat Omega, so Shinryu is up next! Quote (AltheaValara @ 21st August 2020 22:17) The job system is really fantastic, and it's why FFV is my most-played non-MMO/mobile game. And I probably will get the version with the extra dungeons next time as well. And yes, the job system REALLY surprised me. So good. (Although loved it in FFT too) Next up is FF8 I think... it's never been a favourite but I feel it deserves another run. |

Congrats!
FF5 is harder than FF6 yeah. I beat it a while back but didn't beat Omega or Shinryu. I didn't go all-in on leveling up all the classes and planning strats enough to beat either of them. I still like the story though. Especially the endgame dungeon with all the bosses, as well as a certain famous dramatic encounter with Exdeath much earlier in the game.
