I dont care what anyone says...even though FFVI is the highest rated game ever I still think that FFIX ranks right up there with it...i yearn to play that game once again, but sasquatch(yes the one and only sasquatch who resides here on the CoN occasionally, has taken my beloved with him to PA!  Now I'll have to go and buy it in order to play it :shakeshead:

I think FF1 deserves an honorable mention as the first of the series setting the way for the rest of the ff games... besides FF1 has an interesting back story from what i am told. It was originally meant to be the last game squaresoft made (thus FINAL fantasy) but the game became such a hit that squaresoft made sequels. besides i think transforming your characters near the middle of the game is cool. a sucky thief instantly becomes a black magic wielding ninja. A black belt becomes a "master" who needs no weapon at all and hits harder than the knight and can hit something twenty times in one turn! plus FF1 was pretty hard if you didnt know what you were doing. Some people didnt know about the transforms until the endof the game... now that i've ranted all that i'd say FF6 and FF1 are the two best games of the series

FF VI is my favorite! It's got a great story, and great music. The characters are cool too. Mystic Quest and FF4 are cool too, but 6 beats them!

Cait Sith and Quina did serve their purpose.  Cait Sith "sacrificed" himself in the Temple of the Ancients.  Quina was the one who found the underground tunnel or mine or whatever it is.

FF3 was the best all the other ones sucked

Edit
Way to make a meaningful post, pal.  How about giving the odd reason before you say things "suck"?  I'm assuming you mean FF6, as well; please try to use the correct names rather than the original US names toa void confusion with the real NES game FF3. - Tiddles

man, i can tell by starting this poll is going to be like throwing a fork in a microwave. (if you dont know why, get a microwave and stick a fork in it, turn it on and watch the fun!) i was getting tired of all the negetivity with "worst game" and "worst character." there are good things too arnt there?

if i could vote twice i would vote for FF6 and FF9.

OK, I jump on the bandwagon : FF VI of course. Great plot, great characters, awesome music, FF VI still remains as the only game I played more than 20 times, and still start again with the same pleasure. I've been playing this game for 7 years now, and though I enjoyed playing others FF games (especially VII and IX), they're not likely to get the same amount of attention from me.

Final Fantasy IV
1. Arguably the most innovative video game of all time.
2. Characters were individuals in battle.
3. The only FF with a boss you cannot kill cheaply.
4. Complex storyline with characters coming and going (and coming back!) instead of building a small army where you keep people who do absolutely nothing to the story until specific points.
5. Well-balanced final team.

I, personally really enjoyed Final Fantasy IV. But overall, I favor Final Fantasy VI. They are both excellent games, and the epitome of RPG goodness, even to the current standards.

FF6, FF7, and FFX were all so good I can't decide between them. The styles of gameplay and story end up making the comparison like being between apples oranges and kiwis. I'm not saying it's undecideable; it's just that I need another decade or two for perspective.

FF5, by the way is close to my beforementioned favorites. The story is stark and gloomy, the gameplay is workable and vast, and the characters do develop: it's just that instead of their problems being resolved they have to learn to live with them.

I had to go with FFIX, although I still hold dear memories from FFIV, VI, and VIII. (I've played all but FFIII (J)). FFIX perfectly combined the best of the old with the best of the new. Sporting old school FF sprite characters in the world of PSX, I ate it all up. I think the story to be the best of any FF (VI comes just short), it had excellent characters with colorful personalities, excellent NPC's and short time play characters (Blank, Beatrix), nice FMV scenes, an even more fun card game than VIII, equipment to synthesize, fun battles, great music, nice gameplay, and a moderately difficult final boss. Last but not least I think it had easily and BY FAR the best ending. Most important was the overall fun factor. Each part was exciting, new, and fresh. This was the first FF game where I didn't once get bored with a certain part of the game. The game flowed very smoothly to the end.

I voted for VIII because it's probably my overall favourite. The characters really make a game for me and I just felt that the main cast in VIII were the best developed of any FF. The music was beautiful as well, especially from ''Compression Of Time'' onwards.

Although it is my fav, I wouldn't say it has was it takes to be a ''classic'' FF. For me, those will always be I, IV, VI and VII.

Actually, I'd think getting a used FF6 would cost alot, because it is such a classic game. ...That is if you use eBay, like I did. Sixty friggin bucks.

Why didn't you get the ROM? Never mind FF6 was the best. Greats storyline, great music, and great graphics for a SNES. I love this game. My only complaint is Final Kefka was too easy compared to other FF bosses. (Exdeath for example)
To get to the point FF6 was the best RPG ever in my opinion.

Why didn't you get the ROM?

Lower quality than cartridge, you don't get the "feel" of actually playing them, and oh yeah! They're illegal!

I...HAVE...RETURNED! and no one cares or noticed.

I had to vote FF4, it's my favorite. Dang it!

But statisticly...FF7 was the best, story, characters, sound, etc...I just hated the ending...

FF6 would probably be a close second statisticaly. The only flaw was FF7 'went somewhere' (broke some rules, y'know, swearing, guns, girls with impossibly huge racks that does backflips and somersolts, I mean...I'm no science guy, but I'm sure she'd break her back pretty quick...)

See why no one noticed my disappearence? Talk too much...just all rambling nonsense...

I've so far finished IV (IIus version) and VI (IIIus version), both on ROM. I've also started VII (PC version) and V (translated ROM). I voted for VI because I think it's the best of all four, and also better than a few things I've seen about other FFs.
FFIIus was excellent, especially in its music and plot, but not in its gameplay. I don't really like it when you have some characters who can really attack well and have lots of HP while you have other characters who are almost exclusively magic-users because they can't hit anything effectively and/or have very low HP.
FFV seemed to not be as well done as either of its neighbors. The music was less fitting (except possibly the boss theme), and the plot isn't gradually revealing itself the way that it does in FFVI. I can actually see why it wasn't released in the US--originally, it seems that Square decided to release in the US only those games that had a strong showing in Japan.
FFVI: legendary plot, unbelievably great music, and almost the perfect graphics (in my opinion). I think the only game that has been made better would be Chrono Trigger, but they're neck and neck in plot quality, FFVI wins at character development and final boss, but CT wins (by a nose) at music.
FFVII: Music seems too cinematic, unlike that of previous games. And characters can't show expressions and have fingerless fists. But I'll say it IS a scary game, plotwise.

I never will and never have like'd Final Fantasy 8..

It doesnt have a good story line to be a Final Fantasy. I know about the Flashback in FF7 but why in this one expectually with the other 3 seperate characters. I hate the battle system It's way to easy to run..

FF6 is the epitome of hard work in Squaresoft. It's cliche' to say this at CaversofNarshe.com, but the graphics are pushed to the SNES's limit, the storyline is dimensional in every sense an RPG should be rounded and the Characters develop so well that it's almost like those 2-D sprites are people you know..

The only thing that can be taken away from it is some people believable it's replayability can become mundane.

Still the best ever.

Aight, right now my vote has changed from FFVI to a tie between FFVI and FFVII. Man, VII is awesome. It's way more challanging for my very small brain, and it's got a better storyline than FFVI. Sorry guys, but I think my vote has changed entirely to FFVII.

FF8! If anyone HASN'T played it, play it. Remember, don't judge a book by its cover...except in this case it's dont judge a game on its rather one-sided reviews...The plot is a little slow to kick in, but it IS extremely challenging around the middle of Disc 2. But, although it's not a FF game, Wild Arms 2 is DEFINITELY THE TOUGHEST game to date that I have played. I'm not even through yet. Anyways, I am anxious to play FF5. I like the classic 2-D characters, too. smile.gif
But, I can't find it...

Figaro, you may think FF7 is better at the moment because it's the game you're currently playing. smile.gif I even thought FF7 was better for about 2 hours once.

The rest of this message is a post I wrote on another forum on 08-24-2003:

-My Evaluation-
Story: FF6 & FF7 (tie)
Characters: FF6 & FF7 (tie)
Gameplay: FF6
Music: FF6
Atmosphere: FF6
Graphics: FFX

FF6: 5 awards
FF7: 2 awards
FFX: 1 award

Story: Both games had great stories that were both fun, intense and dramatic. Both games had a big empire. The big empire fell in both games and the story shifted to the mad man trying to destroy the world. FF7 was more serious, while FF6 was more cheerful. Both were great. It's too close to call.

Characters: FF6 had so many good characters that were colorful in their personalities such as Sabin, Gau, Cyan, Edgar, Locke, Celes, Terra, Shadow, Relm, General Leo, and of course Kefka. What a great variety, one of which no other FF can match. But no one can forget the names Cloud, Sephiroth, Aeris, and Tifa, who were the most significant characters in the great story that made up FF7. So this one is also a toss up.

Gameplay: FF6 wins here. There were 2 worlds, and so many more places to explore than any other FF. There were also tons cool relics and espers to collect, along with some secret weapons and sheilds. All characters had unique fighting abilities that were usable throughout the game, and 4 characters allow for bigger battles with more variety. You also had the innovative esper system, allowing you to teach spells of choice to any characters you wanted. With all of this taken into consideration, this game gives you a whole bunch of freedom to do whatever you want, especially later in the game. There is just so much to do. FF7 lacked in optional side quests, forcing you to do the next thing in the story. FFX is even worse.

Music: This one is a no brainer. Nobuo Uematsu put his best stuff into FF6. People are still buying up the various soundtracks to this game (FF6 is the most popular in the piano collections series). So many tracks are unforgettable. Websites hosting video game music remixes have more songs done for FF6 than any other FF (although FF7 isn't far behind). The music is one of the key things that puts FF6 over the top. It greatly enhances the total atmosphere of the game. It's just too bad that the SNES wasn't the best home for all of this great work. But that's why the soundtracks are so popular.

Atmosphere: There is an overwhelming amount of locations and scenes throughout the story. In this game you go everywhere, including multiple caves and mountains, mystical forests, a snow covered mountain, an underwater trench, a haunted ghost train, a waterfall, multiple underground passages in towns, the basement of a castle, a magic tower, a buried gravesite, an opera house, a colliseum, secret caves, a secret castle, a high tech factory, an esper world, a burning house, a raging river, a floating continent high in the sky, two airships, a rundown slum, a destroyed town, a military base, and you even reside within people's dreams and visions. There are battles in all of these places except the esper world. Combine all of this with the fact that there are 2 worlds, and this is one heck of an experience. The mood of this game is upbeat and cheerful most of the time, with just the right amount of tragedy and sadness. The theme is not centered around gloom and doom like so many other games these days.

Graphics: Well obviously FFX is gonna take this one. It's just about the only good thing about the game in my opinion. It's more proof that graphics alone don't make a game good. Square spent so much time on graphics that they forgot about gameplay. But obviously that hasn't stopped the masses from running out and buying FFX. The Final Fantasy series is turning into a hype machine. But anyway I'm getting off the subject. This graphics are better than any other game in the series. Very impressive.

As a matter of fact, i90east, I'm playing them both at the same time blink.gif . I'm at the final boss of each of them. I'll agree that FFVI is more of a classic, but FFVII is extremely awesome to, and will become a classic if it isn't one already.

OK, now my evaluation of the two games. Try to snore quietly, please.

FF7 Story: It just kept having me become solemn with emotion at many points of the long storyline scenes. Very great storyline.
FF6 Story: While I agree that one part with...
Possible spoilers: highlight to view
...Locke and Rachel...
came very close to making me shed tears, it the rest of the story didn't have as much oomph as did FFVII's.

I agree that the characters have a tie in... whatever it is we grade 'em by. Both games had great characters.

As for the gameplay, FFVII and FFVI are tied there, I gotta admit.

Music-wise, FFVI was probably better. The songs are just so much catchier.

Atmosphere has itself a tie.

Graphics definitely go to FFVII.

FFVI: 4
FFVII: 4

Hey wait a second, that's a tie! blink.gif Ah well, so they're tied right now, IMO.
