It is for...nothing
Cos you see they can't equip a weapon unto a character, even a character you can't de-equip, unless they make it first. So just take it as...show. Or, you could throw it? It prolly has quite some power behind a throw! -------------------- The Arcana are the means by which ALL is revealed. |

Well, In my limited experience using Umaro, I devloped a pretty big loathing for him. No story + No Control = No populatity points with me.
As for the charecters who did have a shred of personality... I was never overly fond of Strago or Cyan. I always felt Cyan's "Thee Thy Thou" thing was a bit overdone, and Strago always felt like the odd charecter out. He really had no ground breaking plot purposes, and he wasn't the best at much of anything fight wise. -------------------- TURKEY! - (The only way not to get blocked for using Fowl Language) |

My least favorite character is Umaro. After playing with every character, he is the only one with nothing new to bring. Nither to the story or to battle. At least with everybody else you can turn them into spellcasters if you didn't like thier special abilities. Umaro couldn't equip the espers so you can't do that to him. The other reasons I am thinking about have already been said. I don't hate Umaro, I just think he is pointless. I would have rather had General Leo myself.

Currently, it's as follows:
1. Umaro - Even my Controllable Umaro patch wasn't able to save this clown. He sucks all around, if anything because he's boring as hell. 2. Locke (formerly Gau) - Gold-digging little bastard has to take all the good equipment to get anywhere. Screw him, I'd rather complement everyone else with needed armaments. 3. Mog/Cyan (formerly Setzer) - Dance sucks and I have no use for a Dragoon. Now Palidor, on the other hand, I have many uses for. Cyan becomes #3 when I need to fight a hard Colosseum battle, because Mog's inferiority and worthlessness is what I need for the toughest battles (like Pug when Step Mine's doing 9999). In case some of you are wondering, Gau and Setzer rose from the depths of Hell as a result of my discovering Tempest/Rage (which subsequently forced me into re-examining how I treated Rage because the technique was too cool to ignore) and finding out how to control Slot's rigging. Now, sans my own traditions, they are my top two fighters, especially in FFA, hee hee hee.... -------------------- |

Setzer. Hands down.
* Worst weapon selection of any character (ie. fewest and weakest) (besides Umaro). His best weapon, the Fixed Dice are not available until deep within Kefka's Tower, at which point 99% of the game is over. Fixed Dice is awesome; but available wayyy too late in the game to make him useful. * Weak stats. I do not have my stats sheet with me today, but as I recall, he is the weakest character other than the pure mage types. * Everyone can learn all the spells. Everyone can use all the Items. Everyone has Fight. Everyone can use all the unrestircted Relics. Armor selections for everyone are pretty equal as well. So those are hardly a qualifier. The real qualifier is Special Ability. Setzer has the worst special ability there is, plus his Upgraded Special Ability, Slots, is actually a downgrade*. *see my Slots rant in other post for more. * Everybody seems to be putting down Runic as a poor Special Ability. I think its pretty average; neither great nor especially bad. What exactly isthe drawback for this? I think people are having problems with it absorbing their own Magic attacks. This really is very simple to counter. Use the Skip button to skip Celes, let everyone use their Magic attacks, then let Celes Runic. Now she will not absorb your attacks. Its a simple matter of controlling your character order and it really is pretty simple. That leaves Slots as the handsdown worst Special Ability in the game. For me, it's Strago: his Lore skill is funky and fairly fun in the context of the game, but with some minor snippets aside he's just plain worse then other people.
Aqua Rake is fun in the WoB, but it costs one hell of a lot of MP and Gau's better suited with it (he won't do as much damage but the difference is neglectable and Gau won't kill his MP stack with it). His weapons are his saving grace in the WoB, and that's with a bloody 25 % of actually being useful. Aero is beated by Wind God (which is available in all versions of the game and MP-less), Quasar and GrandTrain are watered-down versions of Ultima and the list of spells which are both original, completely bugged up and useless is never-ending: Rippler, Pep Up, Exploder, Condemned, Dischord, ForceField, Roulette....some of these have distant uses but no normal player will pick it over a simple round with the AutoCrossbow. His defenses capabilities leave much to be desired and his only upside, Magus Rod, is due to the biggest bug in the game. Sure, Pearl Wind, Big Guard and GrandTrain are all nice. But that doesn't keep Strago from being a lousy character IMO. -------------------- |
