what are the stars under our name and the title (i.e. returner) for and how do they change or get more stars?

The stars and title are indicative of how many posts you've made. As your post count increases, you will be awarded more stars and a newer, flashier title. I'm not particularly sure about the increments for the post titles, but they're probably written down somewhere around here.

Sometimes there are custom titles that you just can't get. Each of the staffers here has one, and sometimes they are awarded to certain people who maintain some sort of unique distinction. (Though these are very few and far in-between.)

Additionally, there are some "secret" titles that have yet to be found, as no one has yet posted enough to uncover them. What a mystery!

It's more of a comment (well, question) than an error or some kind of trouble to shoot at, don't you agree?

There used to be a list of ranks found thus far in the old board's help files, but I suspect it's not been copied here yet. We'll try and get one up soon if it's not there already.

Edit
Heh... didn't realise the topic had already been moved once. It's quite the explorer.

I know you go up to rank 2 at 30 posts, but it doesn't look like that's uniform.

Also, is there a real member with 10,000 posts? Or is Climhazzard some kind of archiving device?

Climhazzard is the timeless evil robot who runs some of the cool stuff at CoN (mostly logging chat, since there are no quizzes at the moment), all the while watching and waiting for his moment to take over the world.

Being a generally malevolent being who is somehow compelled to serve us, he hacked his account a bit. Isn't he naughty?

He occasionally makes a real post, usually to insult someone.

But anyway: the ranks aren't uniform, no. It takes more posts to get from rank to rank as you get higher, a bit like experience points in Generic RPG 57. Except posts don't get harder and don't start adding more to your post count when you "defeat" them. Oh well.

When I looked at the list of the classes you recieve after making a certaĆn number of posts, I saw that the final classes were just marked as "????". Does this mean that the names of those classes are secret? Or does it mean that you can't go higher than Dragoon (or whatever the final listed class was)?

It appears to have been lost from the forum FAQ during the transition. We'll rebuild it, but it's not a priority.

This new help file will explain everything about the stars and ranks, I think.

Is rank progression the same as it was before? It looks a little different, especially when its:
+150, +200, +175
I don't remember the number of posts required to get to the next rank ever going down.

It's not the same as before, no, because there are more ranks now as I recall. There is that one anamoly, yeah, but it's nothing to get too concerned over. It's really more like that it worked out best that way when working backward from the top number.

I think the ranking system in this forum is good. It's easy to get levels first off. And only dedicated members get the higher levels. Combined with this forums strict spam control and not handing out custom titles just adds character to a forum. I think I speak for alot of people when I say this.

I think R51 just used the name Climhazzard to create an account for technological reasons. Or maybe he did it just for fun, and occasionally posts with a nasty attitude just to screw around with people's expectations. I think Climhazzard runs the chat and quizzes, but since quizzes aren't up currently, just the chat.

And in case you're wondering, Climhazzard only has about ten real posts. The number shown in Climmy's profile is actually forged, probably by R51 again for fun.

I'm not sure if anyone has alota posts and is not a staff member. Super Moogle right now has a chance of getting a rank higher than Dragoon.

No, they're a good way of knowing how many posts someone has made on this board or if they're on staff. That's exactly the extent of it. No more, no less.

No he is a member that is what it said when i veiw the top 50 posters (members only, no moderators), same for Kappa the Imp, because he has a specail rank title as well.

Moderator Edit

This may be a dumb question but the title Mag Roader (I assume it is the monster from FF VI) well which Mag Roader is it supposed to be? There are at least 4 to my knowledge. Nothing huge just curiosity.
