I'd say play whenever you can, while watching tv, etc. Just play randomly, get a feel for the guitar. Once you get more familiar, definitely take lessons, or at least learn some theory (chords, scales). They're very valuable tools for getting better. Jam with anyone and everyone you can, so that you can get a feel for playing with others. I play bass but I'm sure all of that applies to guitar also.

Always nice to speak with musicans...
First of all, three TOP sites that learn beginners a lot: Cyberfret.com Gives you a lot of basic information and lots of advanced stuff to for more experienced users. Contains scales, chords, theory etc. Literally, a gold mine. Well written lessons without lots of advanced terms. There is also a video of each move, so you clearly can see what the guy's doing. Chordhouse Gives you all chords and scales in history. More based on lists, rather than nicely-written lessons, but using Cyberfret as basics, and this site for looking up certain things is wonderful. Easy room and Advanced room available! Guitar Tab Universe Has got lots of tabs, plus a very great forum with very experienced guitarists that can answer your questions directly. Try these sites. And try to get in a band and get lessons. And most of all: PRACTICE! ![]() Good luck! This post has been edited by Shirrow on 11th September 2003 22:39 -------------------- People say I'm a slow learner, but I type fast! |

I've been playing guitar for what feels like forever now, all I can tell you is, don't give up on it, and maybe taking lessons could help you? I know it worked for me. Playing with other people is the key to improving, the more you expose yourself to others the more you pick off from them and grow as your own player. Keep in mind, the guitar will only sound as good as the effort you put into it, so don't blame the guitar if you don't like what your hearing. That's about all I can really say. Goodluck!
