I tried using Master ZED's FF3us NG+ patch, but have not had any success whatsoever... All that happens when I select Yes during the "New Game +?" prompt is the screen flickers briefly and then goes black while the Beginners Hall music continues playing.
I tried patching both v1.0 and v1.1 of the game... Neither works. I tried both Snes9x and Higan... Neither works. I tried my own SRM file and various others I found online... None of them worked. Master ZED makes it sound so simple in the readme, but does the patch even work? Or is there some additional hoop that I still haven't jumped through like headered vs unheadered ROM or it only being compatible with ZSNES or something else that I'm not thinking of? |

Looking into it. Curious myself. Update: I tried v1.0 header and no header, the headered version produced the error you mention. The unheadered version produced garbage graphics on boot when loaded. Same result for 1.1. It's funny, I recall getting this to work at one point in the past, but I can't remember when it was. He must have made an edit to it that broke it at some point, and has not since updated it. Funny that he still hosts the site, I haven't heard squat from him in years. I now have the answer, in case anybody else has trouble in the future: This patch only works with ZSNES!
I'd suspected it all along, but nevertheless It's kinda funny how even the Wikipedia page for ZSNES feels the need to mention this: Quote With the development of more accurate emulators such as Snes9x and higan along with computers generally being more powerful, ZSNES has been criticized for its relatively low accuracy. This has also caused several fan-made translations and modifications designed around ZSNES' inaccuracies to be unplayable on newer emulators and real hardware.[6] Given that Snes9x was well established by the time Master ZED made this patch, I'm surprised he didn't make a disclaimer in the readme (or I suspect, he never tested it). Thanks Spooniest, for helping me verify that it wasn't my computer that had a problem ![]() Now if you'll excuse me, it's time to start spamming Ultima on Leafers... ![]() This post has been edited by Raident on 4th November 2017 22:01 |

I wonder sometimes how that'd look, after having switched exclusively to Snes9x in 2010 (after 1.53 came out and the sound emulation became superior, I never looked back). Hm. Maybe I'm missing out on something. Also, totally unrelated note, but everybody step back ok? I'm about to hit 777 posts, so naturally I'm going to go utterly berserk and destroy everything in my path. ![]() -------------------- X is blue. |

Oh, this answers my question about why I couldn't get some other patches from that time period to work. I tried the evade fix patch and another random one from 2005 that gives a special victory message upon winning a fight without damage and both froze the game upon entering a battle.
No longer have it around to test but I suspect New Game + won't work on ZSNES 1.51 (whatever the last released version was). |

NG+ does work on the latest version of ZSNES. That said, ZSNES is pretty much a dead project and the latest version dates way back to 2007 - 10 years ago - so there's few compatibility concerns since nothing's been changed/"fixed" in ZSNES in a long long time.
What I'm more worried about is whoever's paying the bills to host ZSNES' servers will eventually get tired of forking out the cash every month and take the site and downloads offline 5 or 10 years from now. Hopefully ZSNES' past glory and reputation will protect it from completely disappearing off the face of the internet at that point... |

I hear that! ![]() I think ZSNES should be fine, though, in that regard. Was just looking into this and found this post. THANK YOU. Every year or so I look into it and see if anyone has fixed the patch or not. Glad to have it resolved. Now to download ZSNES just for Final Fantasy 6.
I really hope someone someday either updates the patch or makes a new one to work with other emulators. I'm really surprised nobody has made one for the Steam version of FF6. |

When/if I get a new computer I can look into this. Should be a simple fix.
