Items
You have Firebomb and Lit-bolt, but there is also something called Iceball or Icebomb. Can be won in FF2US. Weapons You have Drain as the name for FF2US Avenger Excalibur was cut down to Excalbur in FF2US for space Under Shadow (Sword), it says US is Black. Probably the other way around, but it is definitely Shadow for FF2US FF2US Blood (Lance) is actually the Drain (Lance) FF2US Dragon (Lance) is actually Dragoon (Lance) FF2US Holy (Lance) is White FF2US Mage Masher is Mute (dagger) For the Bows, Short and Great both have the word Bow in their title FF2US Lighning (arrow) is Lit (arrow) FF2US Fairy (rod) is Charm (rod) FF2US Energy (staff) is Lunar (staff) Fairy and Charm (Claws) are one in the same FF2US Rune and Hand (Axes) have the word Axe in their title No FF2US names for Armor, Enemies, or Magic? Anyone wonder how they came up the last names? -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

The site also has a FF2US reference list
This was moved from another thread in Comments and Suggestions where I did ask that. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

I think I might have mentioned this in chat, but these fixes have been planned for several months. With FFT launched, I'm going to dedicate some time to fixing a lot of errors. If you are absolutely married to the way FF2US names things, you may well remain disappointed by the fixes when they're done, but they will be an improvement over the spotty information that is currently up.

Bump.
We have now rechecked all conversion names between FF2 and FF4. We have fixed all the errors in the FF4 section that we could find. We added some data that we previously did not have. We turned on the links for our extra-special popups for enemies and treasure in the walkthrough. And, we've done something that no other FF site has - we now can help you find weapons, armor, items, and enemies in either FF2US or FF4(Chronicles). Check the main page of the FF4 section for a link to switch from one game to the other. -------------------- "To create something great, you need the means to make a lot of really bad crap." - Kevin Kelly Why aren't you shopping AmaCoN? |

I went through the Items and equipments list for FFIIus. I didn't go to the other one since I pretty much avoid the PSX version like the plague.
![]() Anyways, here's what I got: Heal is worth 100 GP Life (Item) is worth 150 GP Tent is worth 200 GP Avenger Sword is 2-handed Medusa sword causes petrification status when used normally Slumber sword casts Sleep when used as an item Paladin Cecil can equip every Dagger Masamune casts Slow, not Charm Murasame casts Fast Masamune is not found in the Dark elve's cave, it is found in the Path to Moon's Core Murasame is not bought, it is found in the path to the Moon's Core I think Murasame is the more powerful one Ninja Katana is not found in the Tower of Zot, it is found in the Land of Summoned Monsters Rosa can equip Bows and Arrows! Artemis Bow cannot be stolen from a Kary No Bow causes status-ailments Iron Arrow do not cost 220 GP each Aren't the Artemis Arrows good against Dragons? (My Rosa w/Artemis Arrows+Samurai Bow can hit a Dragon harder than both Kain's White Lance Jump and Cecil's Crystal Sword) Artemis Arrows are stolen from Karys Change rod specifically casts Piggy when used as an item Rod can be thrown when used as an item Ice, Flame, and Thunder rod cast Ice1, Fire1, and Lit1 respectively Paladin Cecil can equip staves Poison Claw adds poison Poison Axe and Rune Axe are both 2-handed (I think the rest are 1-handed, not 100% sure about all, though) No one can equip Shurikens The Earth Hammer casts Quake when used as an item Whips add paralysis, not Stop Everyone except DK Cecil can equip Adamant Armor Shadow Armor is initially equipped The Bandana adds to attack power, and everyone except DK Cecil can equip The Cap can be equipped by everyone except DK Cecil Everyone except DK Cecil can equip the Glass Helmet The headband can be equipped by everyone except DK Cecil and adds to Attack power The Leather Cap can be equipped by everyone except DK Cecil Tiara can be equipped by all females Tellah and FuSoYa can also equip the Wizard hat The Paladin Shield is not initially equipped The Diamond Gauntlet is equipped by Paladin Cecil, Kain, Cid FuSoYa can equip the Iron, Samurai, Zeus, and Silver Gauntlets? Edge can equip the Zeus Gauntlet Crystal Ring can be equipped by everyone except DK Cecil 99% sure everyone can equip the Cursed Ring Edge can equip the Ruby Ring, the Protect Ring, and Iron Ring Paladin Cecil can equip every ring The Black Belt and Karate Suit adds to strength The Prisoner Suit is worn on Cid when he escapes, also Rosa can equip the White Robe I'm 99.9% sure Cecil can equip all the Dragoon equipment (except the Lance) -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

Okay, DP...can you please tell us what your source is? That would help a lot. I know a good amount of those are right, but knowing how you know would be nice too.

Well, I see one that is wrong already in your list. Murasame is not stronger than Masamune - at best, their attack power is equivalent. But you say that you just "think" it is, so that can be forgiven. However, it casts a shadow over the validity of your other data, so I suggest you back it up with evidence or just stop posting about it.

One of his is wrong, unless there's something up with the ROM I had.
The Change rod doesn't cast piggy, because you can use it to cure toad status. So yeah. -------------------- Veni, vidi, dormivi. |

Most were just off the top of my head. I seriously know this game better than any other. The prices I double checked by turning on my SNES and walking into the Baron Item Store. As for the Masamune-Murasame thing, I remember experimenting with the item-duplication thing and wanting to give Edge two Murasames, but the Masamune gave him a little boost in def. that I didn't want to sacrifice. I could have that a little mixed up though since I always mixed them up until I read the source behind the names (Japanese legend about two swordsmiths) so I may be mixing them up again. Masamune was supposed to be the holy/protector one and Murasame was supposed to be the evil/dark and destructive one. If someone goes and double checks this, equip Edge with one sword at a time. The second sword you equip will seem to have more power because with two swords, Edge's base attack power doubles.
I don't remember being able to direct the Change rod's magical abilities toward your own party, just as you can't direct the cure rod towards the enemy (this I know). Of course, something like that isn't something I've played around with too much. The Masamune's & Murasame's magical abilities are something I discovered while trying to dart them with the swords equipped. And one more thing I forgot to add: The Blizzard and the Flame lances can cast the Lv 2 spell of their respective elements, and the White Lance can cast the White spell when used as items. I don't think the other ones cast anything, but I'm not sure. And in the short amount of time I had the Dragoon Spear equipped (just in battles against Dragons) I don't remember it causing death. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |

I don't think that "off the top of your head" is a reliable source, no matter how well you claim to know the game.
If you have, maybe, a reliable source of information, maybe you might be taken more seriously. I also seriously doubt the claim that you "know the game better than any other." |

Recently, the weapons sections (FF2US only) was updated for more accurate information. I helped in editing the updated information. Yes, I too know FF2US like the back of my hand. But, in addition to my extensive knowledge of FF2US, I verified my information with sources: FF2US game, FF2US manual. This way, I made SURE that what we posted was right. I am now going to start on the armour section.

It's also worth bearing in mind that we can only change names as a variation between the two games. If statistics or other information for a given enemy/item/whatever differ between versions, the PSX/Original statistics should take precedence.

Quote (Soup @ 8th September 2003 01:46) I also seriously doubt the claim that you "know the game better than any other." Maybe I should re-word that ![]() My personal knowledge of FFIV far exceeds that of my personal knowledge of any other video game. And be careful of the SNES manual, I have found SO many errors in it. -------------------- "I had to write four novels before they let me write comic books." -Brad Meltzer |
