Hidden ending scenes?

I once read in a games magazine that there was a rumour about hidden extra ending scenes in FF6. You could get them if you managed to do the following things:

1. Find all the espers ("Ragnarok" and "Raiden" too)
2. Save both Shadow and Cid
3. Find all the paladin equipment
4. Beat the final boss

If this is true, it would be very great, because the normal ending scenes for FF6 were a disappointment. They don't even show all 14 characters. :(

Does anyone know anything about this?

There's only one piece of Paladin equipment, you can't get every Esper (odin-Raiden).

The ending shows scenes with the characters you get back in the world of ruin : if you didn't see a character, then it's because he's not in your final party to beat the boss...

The only ending scene I know about is the one on the PlayStation version, the one seen after the airship sequence that takes place mostly in the Opera House.

What the...?!?

I never get to see all 14 characters! The game just shows about 6 or 7 of them, then the screen goes black, and only the music is playing in the background for a couple of minutes before it stops. Is it something wrong with my cartridge? >_<

It certainly sounds like it.  I heard something similar used to happen if you tried to run the game on a European PAL SNES.

You could always try getting an emulator, a ROM and a save from the ending, to see it properly.  I'm sure Square would understand.

I played FF VI on my european SNES, and I had various problems with the ending.
It seems that if you run the game (obviously with an adaptator, since it never came in France) and your SNES isn't switched to 60 Hz, the image stops when the screen fades to black. It can happen the first time you go into a specific character ending whom you didn't get, or every time at the end of Gogo's ending.
The trick I used was to switch the SNES in 60Hz just before Gogo's ending, then to put it back in 50Hz afterwards so that the music and the images still match. Or maybe it was the other way around : I didn't finish it on my SNES ever since I got it on PSX, so I'm not sure.
Other than that, try to see it properly like Tiddles said, through emulator or the Playstation version : it's one of the best FF ending ever. (THE best, imo, but that's another topic :D )
