I recently recieved the cursed shield. Striking on a good way of fighting 255 battles, I decided to get Gau some more rage skills. This is a lengthy process but I hav been fighting for a few days now. Gau has nearly all his rage but I don't have the paladin shield yet.
My question. Does fighting on the veldt count as a battle in order to turn the cursed shield into the paladin shield? -------------------- "You are not your job... you are not how much money you have in the bank... not the car you drive... not the contents of your wallet. In order to uncurse the shield, the game must go through the Esper/Item spell learning check for the equipped character (thus explaining why Gogo can't uncurse the shield, he'll never go through this check). Â This cannot be done when Gau leaps/comes back from the Veldt, so any battles in which Gau leaps/returns cannot be counted towards uncursing the shield.
If you have the shield on Gau, that would be a major problem right there. Â Otherwise you're just losing a lot of battles towards the shield due to leaping or you have it on Gogo, in which 0 battles went towards it and you'll have to put it on someone else. -------------------- |

Don't forget, also, to equip a Ribbon on whatever character you're using to uncurse the Cursed Shield. According to Mynock's FFVI Walkthrough, that's necessary also to uncurse the Cursed Shield into the Paladin Shield

Strangely enough, it's not. Â That's just to get rid of the bad status that will cause the character to be incapable of winning any battle. Â You could fight without a Ribbon, and let the other characters handle it (A Cursed Shld wearer can only Fight anyway due to Berserk), or simply equip the shield midbattle every fight, which won't inflict any of the bad status, but will protect against those same ailments instead (Mute, Berserk, Muddled, Seizure), sans Condemned. Â I forget why Condemned wasn't capable of being protected against like this, but at least you won't have to worry about the shield causing it.
And yes, equipping the shield midbattle will make the battle count towards uncursing it. Â If you have the shield equipped at the end of battle, that's all that counts. A Ribbon is the best thing to equip with the shield, but don't think of it as a requirement. Â The only requirement is that you have the shield equipped to someone that can learn Magic through Espers. -------------------- |
